SXSW Review: ‘Being Frank’ is as Messy as the Legacy of its Subject’s Creation

It’s never an easy feat to examine cultural phenomenons when the people telling the story are close to the subject, but Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story makes a valiant if flawed effort. Steve Sullivan’s exploration of Chris Sievey, a multi-hyphenate musician turned experimental video maker, maverick comedian and animator feels as disjointed as the comedy of his most well known creation, Frank Sidebottom. Frank Sidebottom, portrayed by Sievey, of course, bears a striking resemblance to the Frank portrayed by Michael Fassbender in Lenny Abrahamson’s dark comedy, Frank–even if the film is only referenced in passing by Sullivan.

Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story is more or less concerned with the man behind the mask, who never had the dramatic reveal he’d hoped for in his career. The paper mâché, Frank, morphed into the type of Pee-wee Herman character that simultaneously entertains adults at music

When Us TV shows take a trip to England

Scott Varnham Feb 21, 2018

A look back when Channel 4 invited the cast and crew of Friends to film here in the UK, and other Us shows that made the trip...

Granted, if you’re reading this site then you already know that TV productions routinely use locations to double as other places. Due South was set in Chicago but filmed in Toronto. Community was set in Colorado but filmed in Los Angeles. But sometimes they wear their locations on their sleeves; for example, when they take a trip abroad to London. In this feature, we take a look at the reasons why several Us TV shows have filmed over the pond and showcased England in all its glory.

One reason for productions to film over here is that they could qualify for substantial tax breaks. For example, if a TV production’s core spending is all in the UK, they

The New Concorde: Supersonic Plane Could Fly from New York to London in 3 Hours

  • PEOPLE.com
Hopping the pond is about to get a lot quicker.

A new supersonic jet that some are calling “Son of the Concorde” could fly from New York to London in three hours, and may be used to transport commercial airline passengers sooner than you think.

The Nasa creation, officially called a Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator (Lbfd), can break the sound barrier without creating the deafening sonic boom of previous models, therefore making it a serious contender for use in commercial flights — something that hasn’t happened since the Concorde was grounded in 2003.
