World heavyweight boxing champion, 1935-1937.

He was a 20-1 underdog to lose to champion Max Baer, but upset the odds to capture a 15 round decision.
He knocked down challenger Joe Louis in the 1st round, but lost by a knockout a few rounds later.
He was considered "washed-up" when he put together upset victories over top ranked heavyweights Corn Griffith, John Henry Louis, and Art Lasky.
Was undefeated in his first 39 pro fights.
Lost 21 fights prior to winning the World's Heavyweight Title.
