Francis Boggs is an obscure figure in the history of cinema, but an important one. It was he who brought the movies to Los Angeles in 1909 when he established a permanent L. On October 27, 1911, Boggs was with producer William Nicholas Selig when they were attacked by a mentally disturbed ex-employee - a Japanese gardener who Boggs had recently fired - who shot both men. Selig was seriously wounded and Boggs was killed.
