'This Is Us': Toby Steals Our Hearts With His Emotional Conversation With Jack, While Kevin Has Us Worried

Jack Pearson may be gone, but his "romantic gestures" and "insane good looks" will always live on.

As Toby and Kate (Chrissy Metz) begin to reveal the exciting news to their family members that they're expecting their first child together, we learn that Toby is a bit nervous to tell his Catholic mother. In fact, he's "terrified."

How 'This Is Us' Became a Surprise Breakout Hit
Hoisting his Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Sterling K. Brown couldn't help but grin and tip his cap to some of the popular cable antiheroes who have dominated the category over the past decade: "This one right here, when I think about it? Like, Walter White held this joint! Dick Whitman held this joint!"

Brown's no stranger to prestige drama himself, having snagged a statuette for his work in FX's The People vs. O.J. Simpson last year. But no one would have predicted a year ago

This Is Us Review – NBC Hopes To Fill The Melodrama Void

This Is Us is a family dramedy tailor-made to pull in viewers of Parenthood, and it somehow takes things up a notch for good measure. It’s a show that, for good or ill, depending on your preferences, is overloaded with melodrama for melodrama’s own sake, made by people who don’t realize that’s a special kind of redundant.

The show opens with an introduction to a variety of stories, without an explanation as to why we’re watching all of these people, or how they connect, except insofar as their having the same birthday.

Kevin (Justin Hartley) is an actor who isn’t happy with the gig he’s got, and is, perhaps surprisingly, coming to terms with the hollowness of his existence, and the shallow part he no longer wants to play.

Kate (Chrissy Metz) is struggling with her weight, and her birthday is now making
