Screen can reveal a first look at Devika Bhise in Cayenne Pepper Productions’ historical epic Swords And Sceptres, which has now wrapped after filming in the UK, India and Morocco.

Swords And Sceptres

Rupert Everett, Derek Jacobi, Ben Lamb and Jodhi May also star in the film alongside a host of established Indian actors including Nagesh Bhonsle, Yatin Karyekar, Milind Gunaji, Arif Zakaria, and Ajinkya Deo.

Cayenne Pepper Productions CEO Swati Bhise, producer of The Man Who Knew Infinity, makes her feature debut as a director on the film. She is also producing and Charles Salmon is co-producing.

Swords And Sceptres tells the true story of Rani Lakshmibai, the historic Queen of Jhansi who fiercely led her army against the British East India Company in the infamous Indian Rebellion of 1857.

Steven Berkoff begins shooting 'Shakespeare’s Heroes & Villains', 'Tell Tale Heart'
Red Rock Entertainment and Ck Films producing theatrical adaptations.

Actor and playwright Steven Berkoff, known for film roles ranging from A Clockwork Orange to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has begun shooting adaptations of two of his most successful theatre productions - Shakespeare’s Villains and Tell Tale Heart.

UK independent film financier Red Rock Entertainment announced the start of shoot principal photography on the double bill, which are produced and directed by Stephen Cookson (Stanley, A Man Of Variety) and his London-based company Ck Films.

The two features will shoot back to back over a six-week period with filming taking place from today in London.

Peter Keegan (Stanley, A Man Of Variety) is co-producing the films with Ismael Issa as director of photography (We Still Kill The Old Way) and Terry Bamber (World War Z; The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) as first Ad.

Michael Watson Boxing Biopic To Be Helmed By Sean Cronin

Sean Cronin, who will soon be stepping foot in J.K. Rowling’s world of witchcraft and wizardry for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them later this year, is attached to helm a boxing biopic based on the life and career of British middleweight fighter, Michael Watson.

Variety has the scoop, revealing that the feature now holds the title Michael, and will chart Watson’s gruelling recovery after he was knocked into a coma by Chris Eubank back in ’91. A landmark moment for the sport that witnessed the inimitable Muhammad Ali visit Watson’s bedside, Cronin’s big-screen rendition will also chronicle how the knockout affected the British Board of Boxing Control and, in particular, how the governing body altered the rules when it came to ringside medical care.

Sean Cronin to Direct Biopic about Boxer Michael Watson (Exclusive)
London — Sean Cronin, who has appeared in “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” is set to direct “Michael,” a biopic of London boxer Michael Watson.

Watson was knocked out and put into a coma by Chris Eubank in a world title fight in 1991. The film tracks Watson’s fight back from the brink of death and Eubank’s turmoil in coming to terms with what happened. In a pivotal scene, Muhammad Ali comes to Watson’s bedside as he recovers.

The film highlights the changes that came about with regard to ringside medical care as a result of Watson’s injuries, his court battle with the British Board of Boxing Control, and culminates in his triumph over adversity as he runs the London Marathon.

Casting call for The Christmas Star

Open castings are being held for The Christmas Star, Northern Ireland’s first ever Christmas feature film, made by Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People.

A host of film and television professionals are supporting the ground-breaking film production that will engage with hundreds of young people, marking the beginning of a year of Cinemagic’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.

Cinemagic patrons, Ros and John Hubbard, of Hubbard Casting, are launching the search for young talent for the film from 6th- 8th June in Ballymena, Belfast and Newry and invite young people with all levels of experience to audition.

The open castings for young females aged 9-12 and young males aged 9-15 will take place on:

Friday 6th June from 3.30pm – 7.00pm in The Braid: Ballymena Town Hall, Museum & Arts Centre, Ballymena

Saturday 7th June from 10.00am – 4.00pm in The Europa Hotel, Belfast

The highlight of yesterday's Bondstars Christmas party at Pinewood Studios was an on-stage talk by Alan Church, who worked with Maurice Binder on many of the James Bond film title sequences. Alan showed the 120+ audience a DVD of behind the scenes footage of Binder filming the titles for Licence To KIll, detailing how he filmed a scantily-clad model dancing around and firing a gun. It was fascinating to see Binder directing every move with attention to detail, using a wind machine, filming with slow-motion cameras, and even painting out skin blemish's on the model's body!
