Charlie Matthau Readying ‘The Book Of Leah’ With Armand Assante
Exclusive: Filmmaker Charlie Matthau is close to finishing the independent feature The Book of Leah starring Armand Assante, which tells the story of a teenage rape victim who rebuilds herself as a karate fighter and seeks revenge on her attacker.

Brianna Joy Chomer plays Leah Gold, who after sneaking into a night club with her friends, is sexually assaulted in 1980s Chicago. The police do not take her case seriously, trying to blame Leah for being a minor, and the way she dressed. Her high-class family, embarrassed by the incident, sends Leah to a girls school, where she ultimately meets her uncle, played by four-time Golden Globe nominee Assante, who is a Holocaust survivor.

More than another female Karate Kid film, there are layers in The Book of Leah which echo a lot of what we’ve read lately about sexual assault; how alleged victims like Christine Blasey Ford and

Literary Manager Ken Atchity on How 'Literary Agencies Must Change'

Literary Manager Ken Atchity on How 'Literary Agencies Must Change'
Open the newspaper, turn on the television or listen to the radio and the book publishing and film industrys' news of constant lay-offs and woes have seeped past the industry trade papers into the major headlines. The changes have affected not only authors, bookstores, chain stores and book publishing companies but also the literary agencies and management companies that represent the authors themselves. The next five years will be some of the most critical years for literary agents. Some will sink and others will swim. To explore this topic further, I reached out to veteran literary manager and producer, Ken Atchity of Atchity Entertainment Incorporated for his take on what is happening and what he has done about it. It was rather eye-opening and could create a new shift on how future writers' representatives do business. You have a rather...

Gyllenhaal Thrusts Herself onto 'Hysteria'

Variety confirms that Maggie Gyllenhaal has joined the project and breaks the news that Hugh Dancy will be ready for the October shoot of Hysteria, the true story about the invention of the first vibrator set in Victorian England to be directed by Tanya Wexler. Gyllenhaal would be replacing the once attached Sally Hawkins and seeing that this will play as a comedy, my thinking is we can expect something in the tone of a Calender Girls and Kinsey, so I don't imagine her having to put a brave face a la Secretary or Sherrybaby for the role. Synopsis: Scripted by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer, this is set in Victorian England, 1880. Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy), a young doctor sick of his colleagues' medieval practices, starts working for Dr Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce), who treats women's "hysteria" by offering them intimate manual relief... Demand is so great that Mortimer fears

A few days back we told you about Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt’s new novel, Dracula: The Un-dead. It had been purchased by Harper UK but now we learn from Publisher’s Weekly that Dutton publisher Brian Tart won the domestic rights.

The last time the Stoker family gave its seal of approval to a Dracula project was the 1931 Universal film starring Bela Lugosi.

The deal was concluded by Danny Baror of Baror International and Ken Atchity of Atchity Entertainment International who have sold international publishing rights to the book which will be released in October 2009.

Atchity will also act as producer, with Blue Tulip’s Jan de Bont (Speed), on the film adaptation which they hope to have before the cameras by June. A screenplay adaptation has already been completed by Holt and Alexander Galant.
