Steve Guttenberg is ‘Cornered!’

Funnyman Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy) is heading into unfamiliar territory with the horror flick Cornered!, which is being released on DVD in the Us from Phase 4 Films on June 1st 2010.

A serial killer with a morbid voyeur fetish is targeting and terrorizing convenient stores in the city of Los Angeles. He tortures and executes his victims in a ghoulishly artistic way, then steals the surveillance tapes as his bizarre personal trophies.

With the city paralyzed in fear, deliveryman, Morty (Steve Guttenberg), shares his concerns about the recent killings with a group of assorted friends at an isolated downtown liquor store. In a light hearted conversation each member of the group explains, in imaginative ways, how they would kill the psychopath if they ever meet him. Convinced the store is safe, the friends, including Jimmy (James Duval), lock themselves in and settle down for a night of poker.

Fango is Cornered! at screening; director talks

Fango took in a screening of director/co-writer/producer Daniel Maze’s slasher black comedy Cornered! last Wednesday at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, and was on hand for the accompanying pre- and after-show parties. In between snapping photos (see them below), this scribe sat down with Maze to discuss his flick, which revolves around a group of Los Angelenos locked in a liquor store overnight—with a serial killer who has been terrorizing Southland convenience marts.

Scripted by Darrin Grimwood from an original story by the director (pictured left with actor Peter Story), Cornered! also stars Eduardo Antonio Garcia, Elizabeth Nichole and James (Donnie Darko) Duval (pictured below), Ellia English and Steve (Police Academy) Guttenberg (playing against type here). “I was always very confident that we were creating something special, something fresh,” Maze tells Fango. “In blending horror with humor, our goal was to treat our audience to a complete
