Gifted composer and musician who was considered to be the Beethoven of the Arab world.
Composed Egypt's national anthem.
Abdel Halim Hafez was one of his close friends.
He had a phobia of flying.
In 1924 he was taken under the wing of Ahmed Shawky, then known as the Prince of Poets.
For his orchestration of the Egyptian national anthem, Anwar Sadat awarded him the rank of general.
