Jason Schwartzman at an event for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Brooklyn's own Web-Head, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), swings into new dimensions for his second animated adventure. This time, he re-teams with Gwen Stacy's Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) to stop a supervillain called The Spot (Jason Schwartzmann). Introduced in 1984, Dr. Jonathan Ohnn was Kingpin's scientist, researching how to harness interdimensional travel when an inevitable accident covered his body in Dalmatian-like portals that warp to the "Spotworld" dimension. Now, you would think the Spider-People of all parallel universes could agree that the Spot is a threat to their Spider-Society, but their leader, Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), believes Miles is the bigger danger to the Multiverse. O'Hara predicts that Miles may disrupt the delicate balance of the Spider-Verse by saving a loved one. So, what does all that mean? An absolutely epic SPIDER-FIGHT! In the melee, we spy Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Hobie Brown's Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), Pavitr Prabhakar's Spider-Man India (Karan Soni), and the return of Peter B. Parker's Spider-Man (Jake Johnson), who's had a baby with Mary Jane Parker. Don't worry, baby Mayday will one day grow up to be Spider-Girl ... or at least in the comic books. Since sequels always go harder than the first, we'll also see Scarlet Spider, Spider-Byte, Spider-Man from the 1970s Japanese TV show, Doppelganger, Sun-Spider, Spider-Cop, Spider-Cat, Spider-Monkey, and Spider-Wolf (or Wolf Spider) ... to name just a few. 'Across the Spider-Verse' hits theaters in June 2023, with sequel 'Beyond the Spider-Verse' planned for early 2024.
