Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen Have ‘Lord of the Rings’ Reunion (Photo)
Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen and their “The Hobbit” co-star Adam Brown had a mini “Lord of the Rings” reunion on Monday.

“A dwarf, a wizard, and an elf walk into a bar…,” Bloom wrote in a caption under the photo, which featured the three men smiling into the camera and was posted on Instagram.

Bloom played the elf Legolas in the “Lotr” trilogy, while McKellen played the wizard Gandalf the Grey. They both also reprised their roles in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” in which they starred alongside Brown’s Ori.

Peter Jackson directed the fantasy series, based on the novel of the same name by J. R. R. Tolkien. The first film was released in 2001, with the two sequels coming out in

Taylor Swift Tears up on Stage on Anniversary of Groping Trial Verdict (Video)
Taylor Swift let it all out during her Tampa, Florida concert on Tuesday night, as she marked the one-year anniversary of the day a jury sided with her in a sexual assault trial by opening up to fans on stage while fighting back tears.

“A year ago I was not playing in a stadium in Tampa, I was in a courtroom in Denver, Colorado,” Swift says, in the video below, shot by a concertgoer during the pop star’s latest stop on her “Reputation” tour. “This is the day the jury sided in my favor and said that they believed me.”

“I guess I just think about all the people that weren’t believed and the people who haven’t been believed, and the people who are afraid to speak up because they think they won’t be believed,” the 28-year-old singer continued.

Orlando Bloom Shares Awesome Lord Of The Rings Reunion Pic

Having fallen just shy of the $3 billion plateau at the worldwide box office, and garnered critical acclaim from far and wide – not to mention a staggering thirty Academy Award nominations – Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy has certainly set the bar high for Amazon Studios’ small screen adaptation. Nevertheless, with Jennifer Salke overseeing the ten-figure operation, and John D. Payne and Patrick McKay officially tasked with bringing “the rich world” created by J.R.R. Tolkien to life, we fully expect the electronic commerce subsidiary to knock their interpretation right out of the park.

Unfortunately, the driving force behind New Line’s triumph, Peter Jackson – amongst other personnel from the WingNut production – reportedly will not be involved. Although, if it’s a Lord of the Rings reunion you’re looking for, Legolas has got you covered.

Yesterday, Orlando Bloom, portrayer of the character in Jackson’s acclaimed and beloved trilogy,

‘Game of Thrones’ Author Says Why He Kills So Many Characters – It’s All J.R.R. Tolkien’s Fault (Video)
George R.R. Martin has never been afraid to kill even the most beloved of characters in his “Song of Fire and Ice” novel series, better known as the basis for HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

But during an interview on PBS’ “The Great American Read,” the fisherman’s cap-wearing Martin essentially told audiences that if they’re still angry at over him over the Red Wedding, it’s all “Lord of The Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien’s fault for killing Gandalf.

“I can’t explain the impact that had on me at 13,” Martin said, while discussing the “Lord of the Rings” book series, which was ranked by PBS as one of “Americans’ favorite 100 novels” (the whole trilogy made the cut). “You can’t kill Gandalf!”

From Broadway to Big Screen: The Musicals Getting the Movie Treatment

  • Variety
Green witches, flying carpets, and singing cats are heading from the stage to the screen, as Hollywood appears to have fallen back in love with movie adaptations of its favorite musicals.

It’s a tale as old as time: musicals gather a large following on the Great White Way, causing fans to repeatedly belt out numbers like “Defying Gravity” on the regular, and suddenly audiences wonder who would play the film version of the Wicked Witch of the West.

As there is a slew of musicals on the docket in the next few years, namely with a certain “Hamilton” creator attached, Variety has rounded up some of the current projects moving forward in development:

Aladdin (Expected Release: May 2019)

The hit Disney Renaissance film took a magic carpet ride to Broadway in 2011. And while Robin Williams made everyone want a “friend like him” in the 1992 animated version of “Aladdin,” Will Smith

‘Hamilton’ Filmed Performance With Lin-Manuel Miranda Could Hit Big Screen: Report

A week after Netflix announced it will film Bruce Springsteen’s hotter-than-hot one-man Broadway show for streaming in December, a similar – but big-screen – plan reportedly is in the works for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton.

The Wall Street Journal reports today that unnamed Hollywood studios are bidding for the rights to a filmed performance of Hamilton from 2016 – when Miranda still headed the cast in the title role. The worldwide theatrical rights, WSJ reports, could sell for more than $50 million.

The WSJ cites two unnamed people with knowledge of the deal. According to the article, representatives for the production recently screened the recording for interested buyers.

Among the interested studios, according to the WSJ, are Warner Bros and Twentieth Century Fox. The potential buyers are being asked not to play or stream Hamilton until 2020 or 2021.

A spokesperson for Hamilton told Deadline that neither the production nor Miranda would have “any comment on this at this time.

When “Preacher” star Dominic Cooper stopped by the “Late Late Show” Monday night to visit his old roommate, host James Corden, the pair decided to play a round of “Shock Therapy.”

“Dominic and I are very, very old friends,” Corden told the audience while setting up the bit. “We used to live together. We first met in 2004, we moved into a flat together in 2008. Dominic introduced me to my wife. And we are very, very dear, old friends. We thought we’d play a game to test our friendship and see how well we know each other.”

Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson and James Corden have all signed on to star in the movie musical, which has been in the works for several years now but appears to be moving toward production now with the addition of these cast members. This is a diverse group of talent, but one that proves Universal is trying to make this thing a hit.

Taylor Swift, though known best as a musician, is no stranger to acting. She appeared in The Giver, Valentine's Day and voiced a character in The Lorax. Something like Cats certainly will play to her strengths as a performer. As for Ian McKellen, he may be known best for his work as Magneto in the X-Men franchise and as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings,

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’: 3 Reasons Why Musicals Are Box Office Gold

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’: 3 Reasons Why Musicals Are Box Office Gold
While “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” (Universal) may not open better than the eleven sequels so far this summer– well, it may beat “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and “The First Purge”– it continues to build on the renewed interest in musicals created by 2008 surprise global smash “Mamma Mia!”

Phyllida Lloyd’s stage musical adaptation turned into the biggest domestic musical hit since “Chicago” (2002), grossing $175 million in the U.S./Canada (all figures are adjusted to 2018 ticket prices). That was less than “Chicago” at $259 million. But its success was notable enough to encourage other musicals in the years since.

In a season of non-stop sequels and franchise entries, here’s why musicals are making a comeback:

1. Sequels reign

Musical sequels are not common. Of all the genres that have been traditional staples of successful sequels, musicals have seen the fewest.

We have seen several big-level musical successes in the last two years,

Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, and Taylor Swift Cast in Film Adaptation of The Broadway Musical Cats

The King's Speech and Les Miserables director Tom Hooper is set to direct a live-action adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Cats from Andrew Lloyd Webber. He just got himself a surprisingly interesting cast that includes Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden and Ian McKellen.

According to Variety, Hudson will play Grizabella, "the former 'glamour cat' who falls on hard times and gets to sing about it in showstopper 'Memory.'" There's no information on who Swift, Corden and McKellen will play.

Having grown up with a dad who was a professional singer that did a lot of musical theater, I'm very familiar with this musical and it's going to be really interesting to see how Hooper ends up adapting this story for the big screen. But, it's a great story that could make for a solid film. It's definitely got a talented cast on board!
