The Flash Season 5 Episode 17 Review – ‘Time Bomb’

Jessie Robertson reviews the seventeenth episode of The Flash season 5…

For some reason, I’m kinda shocked they haven’t used this episode title before…

So, there are two reasons you watch this episode tonight. Let’s cover the Cicada problem first. The death of Uncle Oren. Chris Klein, while not really stretching a lot, finally got an arc that he excelled at. Actually, that’s not fair. As the struggling parent figure in Grace’s life, I think he’s done a fine job. Once all his anger was gone, and his dark matter healed, he began to think like a parent again. I thought, perhaps, the scenario could go one of two ways: either he got his powers back and joined Grace, or she disposed of him. Once, he showed up in a “save her soul” type scenario, the choice was clear and it was a timely choice

The Flash Season 5 Episode 17 Review: Time Bomb

Cicada 2.0 is here and she's more powerful than her uncle. Read our thoughts on this week's episode of The Flash!

This The Flash review contains spoilers.

The Flash Season 5 Episode 17

Whatever your thoughts on the protracted Cicada storyline, The Flash just pushed the villain in a powerful, and menacing new direction with Cicada 2.0. But tonight’s action-packed adventure, “Time Bomb,” also blew Nora’s mystery wide open, and even took a comedic turn close to the spider-verse, what with Ralph’s determination to bring Cisco’s girlfriend into Team Flash.

As we learned last week, the new Cicada is the future version of Grace, Orlin’s niece. Played by Sarah Carter, she is not only vicious, but also far more powerful than her uncle ever was. And as much as Chris Klein’s Cicada was growly and permanently pissed off, Grace conveys some major sanity issues – as well as interesting future tech,

The Flash: Secrets of Cicada Revealed

Aaron Sagers Mar 19, 2019

There's a new Cicada in town on The Flash, and Sarah Carter told us all about her.

This article contains spoilers for The Flash if you aren't all caught up.

Just when it seemed Orlin Dwyer was about to lay down his dark matter dagger, a new Cicada buzzed their way into Central City last week to plague Team Flash. In a reveal at the end of the episode, fans learned the new version of the villain was none other than Grace Gibbons, Orlin’s niece from the future.

According to actor Sarah Carter, who plays the new Cicada, Grace is going to be an even bigger threat on The Flash beginning tonight, and “for the rest of the season.”

“She is more powerful than her uncle, she has skills he doesn’t have acquired in the future, and she is more vicious than her uncle,” says Carter.

‘The Flash’: Sarah Carter on Stepping into Cicada’s Shoes & If Grace Can Be Redeemed

Warning: Spoilers below if you’re not caught up with The Flash On The CW series The Flash, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash have used the meta-human cure on Orlin Dwyer (Chris Klein), aka Cicada, to strip him of the powers he’s been using on his mission to kill all of the meta-humans in Central City. And while the cure might have worked, it didn’t stop Cicada, as the even angrier and more determined adult version of his niece Grace (Sarah Carter) appears to have stepped into the suit, seeking her own revenge and …

The Flash: Sarah Carter Teases Future Grace's Agenda, Cicada's New Threads

The Flash: Sarah Carter Teases Future Grace's Agenda, Cicada's New Threads
There’s a new Cicada out to bug Team Flash.

Just as Barry & Co. convinced Orlin Dwyer (played by Chris Klein) to be treated with the metahuman cure (and then get that nasty chest wound sewn up), S.T.A.R. Labs went on the fritz. Amid the chaos — and with Orlin still unconscious in the med bay — another Cicada surfaced to make much mayhem, zapping and lobbing heroes to and fro. The new Cicada ultimately spirited Orlin away to a remote cabin, where we discovered that beneath this hood was a grown-up version of Dwyer’s niece, Grace, who

The Flash Season 5 Episode 16 Review – ‘Failure is an Orphan’

Jessie Robertson reviews the sixteenth episode of The Flash season 5…

And how many Fathers does success have??

The Good:

Jessica Parker Kennedy. That is all.

No, sorry, the deeper we get into the season, the more and more her character is layered and human and likeable. This actress (playing Nora Allen) is doing a killer job. When we first see her tonight, she’s trying to get info from Thawne on what exactly is happening and once she gets the answer, she’s a maniac in the Star Labs war room, going through every option possible and handles this scene with her typical frenetic energy. Once her Mom and Dad show up and steal her away to Jitters, we get that fun Allen family feeling when they have a “bucket list” of sorts of all the things they want to do with her before she has to leave once Cicada is defeated.

The Flash Season 5 Episode 16 Review: Failure is an Orphan

That was anticlimactic.

The hype was strong over The Flash Season 5 Episode 16, and promotional media had promised us one of the best episodes of the season, with a shocking twist ending.

Instead, what we got was two-thirds of a filler episode, finished off with a reveal I’m fairly sure almost all Flash fans saw coming.

It always hurts to be critical of The Flash -- there are many excellent and endearing elements about it. But even with the deliverance of incredible installments like The Flash Season 5 Episode 15, the reality is this: The Flash sometimes wholly misses the mark.

This was one of those times.

In some ways, the reveal of Grace being the true Cicada villain was a relief. Dwyer (Chris Klein) has been an underwhelming and one-note villain with little charisma. That lack of charisma has caused the plot to stagger severely,

New Promo For The Flash Teases The Final Showdown With Cicada

Normally, we see superhero shows dispatch of their big bads during their season finales. In the case of The Flash, Reverse-Flash, Zoom, Savitar and the Thinker were each dealt with in the 23rd episode of their respective seasons. But when it comes to Cicada, it looks like he may exit a little earlier than his predecessors.

I first thought this to be a possibility once the network released the official synopsis for “Failure is an Orphan” a few weeks ago. And now that the first promo for said episode has debuted (seen at the top), I feel like that suspicion has been validated in some sense.

Of course, the producers could just be yanking our chain, but I’m not sure how much more there is to explore with the Cicada character. Plus, it also looks like the overarching narrative is about to transition to a different antagonist, that perhaps being Eobard Thawne.

New Photos From The Flash Tease Pivotal Showdown With Cicada

Love him or hate him, Cicada has proven to be quite the omnipresent threat on The Flash this season. And though he’s chalked up more losses than, say, the Reverse-Flash or Zoom, the team at Star Labs have yet to find a way to definitively deal with him.

Actually, that may change next week when the gang finally put the finishing touches on the metahuman cure in the oddly titled “Failure is an Orphan.” And though my gut tells me they’ll fail in their attempt and this thing will be dragged on until the season finale, you never really know when a curveball will be thrown. Therefore, we can’t rule out this confrontation being for all the marbles.

Offering us a look into the crystal ball now are a dozen photos taken from said installment, each of which can be viewed in the gallery below. Fortunately, they

The Metahuman Cure Awaits Cicada In New Synopsis For The Flash

If I were to make any observation about The Flash‘s current big bad, Cicada, it’s the he’s less a thorn in the side of the Star Labs crew and much better at racking up losses before escaping at the last second. To use a pro wrestling term, he’s more of a “jobber” than Reverse-Flash, Zoom, Savitar and the Thinker ever were.

Well, if all goes according to plan, Cicada’s going to get that metahuman cure being worked on by Cisco and Caitlin since the midseason premiere. Here, take a look at what awaits us in the bizarrely titled “Failure is an Orphan” after we have time to come down from the King Shark-Gorilla Grodd fight:

The Meta-cure Is Ready To Use On Cicada — With the meta-human cure ready to use, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash must figure out a way to subdue Cicada (Chris Klein

Ben McGrath (Chris Klein) had major league potential playing professional baseball, but his hopes to play ball literally get crushed. Down on his luck, Ben gets another swing at redemption as a new attorney for Schmood & Associates. His unorthodox boss, Mel (Jon Lovitz), convinces him to manage their eclectic softball team full of misfits and strikeouts. Together, will they have enough spirit to rally and win it all?

Ok, so The Benchwarmers didn’t set the world on fire but I did enjoy the ridiculous underdog film for what it was – a stupid, laugh out loud comedy product from the “Happy Gilmore” factory of filmmaking. In the grand

The Flash Season 5 Episode 13 Review – ‘Goldfaced’

Jessie Robertson reviews the thirteenth episode of The Flash season 5…

This is waaaay better than Goldmember……

The Good:

The Flash is funny again! With Ralph and Barry teaming up as the scum of Central City to find a special item in their quest to defeat Cicada, you brought the funny again. No Cisco for the 2nd time in 3 weeks which sucks, but these two hamming it up as baddies really sets the mood and reminds you why this show was so successful early on. Ralph with one liners all over the place and Barry’s story as “The Chemist” was fantastic. On the side, we have Nora trying desperately to cover up her secret pact with Thawne by keeping Sherloque distracted….with love (Thawne’s idea). It works, as he becomes sidetracked by a former ballet dancer named Renee Adler (get it?) but his brilliant deduction skills make him come off more like a stalker.
