A couple days ago, Vertical announced that they will be giving the horror film The Exorcism (formerly known as The Georgetown Project), which stars Russell Crowe, a North American theatrical release on June 7th, with the streaming rights going to Shudder. Now the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they have given The Exorcism an R rating – and we’ve learned that the film’s trailer will be dropping online tomorrow!
The Exorcism has been rated R for language, some violent content, sexual references and brief drug use. This isn’t the first time the movie has been given an R rating, as it was previously given an R for the exact same reasons last June, when it was still going by the title The Georgetown Project.

Vertical has acquired North American rights to the horror film “The Exorcism,” starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe. It will be released this summer.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because Crowe also starred in an exorcism movie last year, the underrated “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
The new film follows Anthony Miller (Crowe), “a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film.” His estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) then starts to wonder if he’s slipped back into his addict past or if there’s something more supernatural at work.
“The Exorcism” was directed and co-written (with M.A. Fortin) by Joshua John Miller, who started his career as an actor (one of his first roles was as the little vampire kid in Kathryn Bigelow’s classic “Near Dark”). His father Jason Miller portrayed Father Damien Karras in “The Exorcist,” while his mother Susan Bernard appeared in “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!...

While we anxiously await news of The Pope’s Exorcist 2, Russell Crowe will deal with some more demons in The Exorcism.
Update, 23 April: On the official Film Distributor’s Association release calendar, The Georgetown Project is listed for release on 7 June, courtesy of Vertigo Releasing. The calendar hasn’t been updated after yesterday’s news, but it seems that we may be getting The Exorcism right on time in the UK too. We’ll keep you updated on that.
We here at Film Stories thoroughly enjoyed The Pope’s Exorcist. Starring Russell Crowe as a world-weary demon evictor taking on the most challenging case of his career, we thought the film was a hoot and have been holding out hope that Sony Pictures would announce a sequel.

Russell Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter… but before Crowe made that movie, he made a different supernatural thriller that deals with exorcism. Four and a half years have gone by since it was announced that Crowe had signed on to star in a film that was then known as The Georgetown Project, with Joshua John Miller directing. Now retitled The Exorcism, that film has been acquired by Vertical for a North American theatrical release that’s scheduled for June 7th. The streaming rights are in the hands of Shudder.

The Equalizer has drawn very good ratings for CBS. Still, it's also co-produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), which is a negative in the economics of network television these days. Fortunately, the Season 4 premiere doesn’t waste time revealing who survives. Robyn had been shocked to discover that Michelle (Ilfenesh Hadera), someone from her past she thought was dead, was alive and out for revenge. But as soon as Robyn was left alone with one of Michelle’s men, she easily knocked him out, found the room where her friends were kept, used a grenade to blow open the door, and got all of them out safely. We may not be able to say the same for Fisk (Donal Logue) and the others from the CIA transporting Michelle at the end of the episode after ...

"Say Anything" marked America's transition into the 1990s by sealing off the heyday of feel-good high-school rom-coms and goth rock in the '80s. It was a major and much-needed send-off that is probably still an all-time favorite among many a Gen-x-er today.
The coming-of-age hit from 20th Century Fox featured breakout stars like John Cusack and Ione Skye. Even the supporting roles were played by soon-to-be major players like Pamela Adlon or the children of mega-famous stars like Jason Gould.
But not every actor featured in the 1989 romance movie survived into 2024. Unfortunately, John Mahoney, who played Diane's hypercritical (and hypocritical) father, James Court, passed away back in 2018. The late actor was the oldest major cast member by quite a few years and was in his late 70s when he passed. Before his death, Mahoney had an incredible career in film and television — his supporting role as Martin Crane in...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit USA Network’s “Frankenstein,” which was produced by Lions Gate Films and originally aired on October 10, 2004.
After “The X-Files” (originally) came to an end, other genre properties popped up in an effort to fill the hole it left behind. One of them was the USA Network’s “Frankenstein.”
This TV movie wasn’t so much about Frankenstein as it was an attempt at a murky cop procedural that so happens to involve undead monsters and mutants lurking in Louisiana.
From executive producer Martin Scorsese, “Frankenstein” originally aired as a means of setting the stage for an elaborate horror thriller with a monster-of-the-week approach, following two cynical detectives on the hunt for the mythical mad doctor.
Engineered by famed author Dean Koontz, the movie was a twist on the Mary Shelly story for a more contemporary setting that, at the very least,...

After the big screen delivered the marijuana and beer-fueled antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his living teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" franchise, the raunchy debauchery of the longtime friends is coming to Peacock in the form of a prequel TV series. Thankfully, since this is streaming, "Ted" can be just as raunchy as the movies. However, because this is a prequel series, there's no Mark Wahlberg screwing around with Ted. Instead, we have a 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder) enduring the trials and tribulations of high school with Ted by his side, and having a living teddy bear as your best friend in school goes about as well as you'd expect for a teenager in the 1990s.
The "Ted" trailer (watch above) just debuted from Peacock, giving us a blend of your average sitcom with the R-rated comedy of a cable series. After riding a wave...

Matthew Perry, beloved for his iconic Friends role as Chandler Bing, has left generations of fans devastated following the news of his death at age 54. The actor died Saturday in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home.
The Emmy-nominated actor went on to star in movies like the Whole Nine Yards franchise, Fools Rush In and 17 Again; and on television, The West Wing, The Good Wife, Go On and, most recently, The Odd Couple. But his indelible role as Chandler on the revered NBC sitcom, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, is seared into memory for many. His lines decorate coffee mugs. His physical comedy, passed around as shareable memes. And his iconic episodes will remain forever bingeable.
When Perry published his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in 2022, his words and subsequent press tour shed light on what the actor was quietly experiencing while making millions laugh as must-see TV.

The race by the AMPTP and the WGA to get a deal done by sundown had plenty of folks thinking back to a very memorable episode of Entourage — Doug Ellin, included.
The creator of the HBO comedy was reminded Sunday on X about how the weekend negotiations between the AMPTP and the WGA sounded “like an Entourage storyline.”
Ellin replied, “And on Yom Kippur it sure does.”
Not sure what he’s talking about? Think back 16 years ago to the season 3 episode dubbed “The Return of the King.” The 2007 episode kicks off with the boys at the race track while Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) is arriving at temple before the start of Yom Kippur. That’s when he runs into Nick Rubenstein (Adam Goldberg), the neurotic son of movie producer Phil Rubenstein who is making the movie Medellin with Paul Haggis.

Rereleased for its 30th anniversary, this is a seemingly aimless but actually brilliantly controlled movie about Texan kids in 1976
Richard Linklater’s graduating class for his breakout 1993 hit – now rereleased for its 30th anniversary – featured baby-faced high-schoolers Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Milla Jovovich, Rory Cochrane, Cole Hauser and Adam Goldberg. Then there is Matthew McConaughey, who does not look all that much different from the way he does now, playing the older guy with a dodgy pudding bowl hairstyle and a pack of cigarettes stuffed into one of his T-shirt sleeves, creepily hanging out with kids from the school he is supposed to have left some years ago.
This is a film which drew on Altman’s Nashville – like that movie, this is set during the bicentennial of 1976, and is now nearer in time to that year than to 2023 – and Lucas’s American Graffiti. It features kids in Austin, Texas...

Tributes poured in Monday after it was revealed that Paul Reubens, the actor who made Pee-wee Herman famous, died after a private battle with cancer. He was 70.
Reubens turned Pee-wee into a one-man franchise, from the influential kids TV show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse through three feature films — 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, 1998’s Big Top Pee-wee and the 2016 Netflix pic Pee-wee’s Big Holiday — and even a Broadway play.
He also appeared on everything from Mystery Men (as Spleen) to Murphy Brown, and stole scenes in the likes of Batman Returns and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
“Paul Reubens was like no one else – a brilliant and original comedian who made kids and their parents laugh at the same time,” Jimmy Kimmel wrote today. “He never forgot a birthday and shared his genuine delight for silliness with everyone he met. My family and I will miss him.”
Said Danny DeVito: “Really loved working with him.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Equalizer Season 3 finale, “Eye for an Eye.”] A major betrayal carried out by Robyn McCall’s former CIA leaders came back to haunt her in The Equalizer Season 3 finale. And the conflict, which left Mel, Harry, and Dante’s lives hanging in the balance, will continue into Season 4, which was green-lit by CBS in May 2022. The finale began with Robyn (Queen Latifah) and Mel (Liza Lapira) running for their lives in an empty warehouse, shielding themselves from gunfire while they looked for a way out. The episode then flashed back to tamer times earlier that day. It was a run-of-the-mill afternoon filled with Robyn working on her car, Mel and Harry (Adam Goldberg) grocery shopping, and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) on their way to the movies. But the day was harshly interrupted when Robyn, Mel, and Harry were all attacked. Having made it out unscathed,...
