Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan’s Production Banner Secures Funding, Sets New Film: El Chicano (Exclusive)
War Party’s Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo have teamed up with an investment group out of Calgary to establish the WarChest Fund. The fund has been established to create four to five films for the company, all budgeting below $20 million.

In addition, WarParty has set its sights on their next project, an original film titled “El Chicano.” The project is being co-written by Carnahan and Ben Bray with Carnahan producing and Bray directing and will be the third project for the nearly year-old production company following the upcoming “Wheelman” for Netflix and “The Raid” with XYZ Films. Grillo and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be executive producing.

“We are excited to have ‘El Chicano’ be our second film under the War Party banner and first under our newly formed WarChest Film Fund with our partners in Calgary,” says Frank.

New Supergirl Featurette Takes Us Inside A “City Of Lost Children”

Although Supergirl will most certainly have her hands full over the course of this season’s remaining three episodes having to deal with the likes of Rhea and General Zod, James Olsen is set to get some needed exposure tonight in “City of Lost Children.”

You see, with Calista Flockhart no longer being a series regular, CatCo hasn’t enjoyed the prominence it had during the first season as of late. Sure, we do see it here and there, but you have to admit that much more time has been spent over at the Deo and, as such, James has needed something to keep him occupied even though he’s been put in charge of the media empire. Thus, having him take to the streets as Guardian has filled that void.

Still, he comes and goes, more so feeling like he’s embarking on his own quest as opposed to

The Children Are Our Future In New Supergirl Extended Promo

Now that Kara has successfully made sure that her adoptive sister, Alex, remains among the living for the foreseeable future, she’s once again ready to embark on adventures that are a little more science fiction in nature. And should next week’s episode of Supergirl, “City of Lost Children,” live up to its trailer, we’ll get just that.

With only three episodes remaining this season, it looks as though Rhea is beginning the first phases of whatever her endgame may be. Whether General Zod factors into her plans remains to be seen, as we all know that Kryptonians and Daxamites aren’t exactly on the best of terms, but we could very well be looking at an “enemy of my enemy” scenario.

While it remains unclear as to what Mon-El’s mother has on her agenda, the trailer above gives me the impression that it has something to

The CW Releases Intriguing Episode Descriptions For Arrow, The Flash And Supergirl

Earlier today, The CW released episode descriptions for instalments of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl which air the week beginning May 8th. With just a handful of chapters left in each series before they wrap up for the year, big things are on the way for our beloved heroes, something which is evident from each of the synopses below.

For starters, we have Supergirl. In “City of Lost Children,” James Olsen’s Guardians will take centre stage as he steps up to help save National City alongside Kara.

When an alien attacks National City, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the Deo learn the alien is a Phorian, an otherwise peaceful race with telekinetic powers. Team Arrow Arrive In Russia In “Bratva” Sneak Peek

It’s not often that Oliver Queen and his cohorts venture overseas, so it goes without saying that we should all tune in for tonight’s episode of Arrow, “Bratva.” And if you’ve been following the series to this point, you know from that title we’re going to be seeing the titular hero’s past exploits with the Russian mafia come home to roost.

In the newly released sneak peek, we join Team Arrow 2.0 as they settle into their temporary digs after Oliver has apparently taken a punch to the face, probably courtesy of his old pal Anatoly. But what’s particularly exciting to see is that Dinah Drake, the new Black Canary, is already taking part in the action. Now begins the countdown to seeing her in full costume.

Oliver Queen Confronts The Bratva In Extended Arrow Promo

It’s not too often that Oliver Queen does some globe hopping outside of flashbacks, but when he does, odds are that something important will happen. As such, it’s highly recommended that you don’t miss next week’s episode of Arrow, which is naturally titled “Bratva.”

Now that Tina Boland has been revealed to be, in fact, Dinah Drake and is set to become the next Black Canary, she joins the gang as they head to the other side of the world and wastes no time getting in on the action. Aside from that, I’m interested to see if indeed Oliver’s alliance with Anatoly will become strained and if the latter will ever become KGBeast in this universe.

The CW Releases Synopses For Upcoming Episodes Of Arrow, The Flash And More

The CW’s DC TV offerings return next week, but the network has today released the official descriptions for the episodes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl which will air the week beginning February 6th. There aren’t too many major reveals here, but each of them sounds pretty fun in their own way.

First up is Supergirl. In an episode titled “The Martian Chronicles,” it sounds like we should expect the Girl of Steel to find herself caught in a crossfire between Martian Manhunter and the White Martians, the villainous alien race who wiped his people (and family) out on Mars.

White Martians Attack The Deo — Armek (guest star Terrell Tilford), a White Martian, descends on National City intent on taking M’gann (guest star Sharon Leal) back to Mars to face her punishment as a traitor. Hank (David Harewood) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) determine the

Exclusive Interview with Casey Affleck for ‘Out of the Furnace’

In one of his best violent performances since 2010’s “The Killer Inside Me,” actor Casey Affleck shows the audience his great acting range in this year’s revenge drama “Out of the Furnace.”

Affleck played an angry, frustrated former Iraqi veteran who turned to illegal bare knuckle fights to cope with his depression and personal problems. As he participated in these fights, his character mysteriously disappeared after a fight and his brother must seek the truth in the Appalachian Mountains.

Latino-Review had an exclusive sit-down interview with Affleck during the press day late last month. We discussed about Christian Bale’s presence on the set, his research on war veterans and his experience in training as a bare knuckle fighter. And for giggles, I’ve even asked up on who will make a better Batman between his brother, Ben Affleck and Bale.

Out of the Furnace” is currently in theaters.

"We did not change our criteria at all," says Academy president Hawk Koch of this year's larger-than-usual class. "Yes, this year there is a tremendous amount of women, a tremendous amount of people of color, people from all walks of life. This year, we asked the branches to look at everybody who wasn't in the Academy but who deserved to be.

Academy adds record number of new members

Academy adds record number of new members
The Academy just added 276 Oscar voters.

That’s 100 more than last year, and part of an easing of a longstanding cap on the number of new members allowed to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences each year.

AMPAS usually adds between 130 and 180 new members, replacing those who have quit or passed away. The membership now stands around 6,000.

Jason Bateman, Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emmanuelle Riva, and Chris Tucker are among the actors who have been invited to join, the organization announced today.

Other interesting additions: the musician Prince, Girls and Tiny Furniture writer/director/actress Lena Dunham,

The total of new invitees is exactly 100 more than were tapped in 2012. Total membership in the Academy numbers more than 6,000.

“We’re very proud,” Academy prexy Hawk Koch told Variety. “The difference this year is we relaxed the quota system. In the past eight or nine years, each branch could only bring in X amount of members. There were people each branch would have liked to get in but couldn’t. We asked them to be more inclusive of the best of the best, and each branch was excited, because they got to bring in the people who should be in the branch.”

Koch said that in particular, visual effects and documentary were among the branches with the biggest gains, reflecting their intense recent growth.
