Clerks” has inspired legions of loyal fans in its 22 years of existence, few of them more devoted than Christopher Downie. The 31-year-old filmmaker is set to make his debut feature with “Shooting Clerks,” a film about — you guessed it — the making of Kevin Smith’s debut feature. Featuring several original cast members and the same grainy, black-and-white look, the docu-fiction hybrid is set to make its premiere next month. Watch its first trailer below.

Taking a vaguely self-reflexive approach that blends aspects of Smith’s filmography with the more factual behind-the-scenes elements, Downie’s movie counts “Clerks” principals Brian O’Halloran, Marilyn Ghigliotti and Smith himself among its cast. (At 105 minutes, it’s also 15 minutes longer than its source material.)

'Shooting Clerks' Trailer: Kevin Smith Gets a Biopic

'Shooting Clerks' Trailer: Kevin Smith Gets a Biopic
While more often than not, most biopics are usually reserved for popular musicians and Apple Computer CEOs. But the upcoming dramatic comedy Shooting Clerks revolves around indie director-turned-cult icon Kevin Smith. The story follows a young Kevin as he sets out to raise $27,000 to make his black and white comedy Clerks, which went onto become a surprise hit way back in 1994. The new film was written and directed by Christopher Downie, with the full cooperation of Kevin Smith.

Kevin Smith actually appears in the film, as do other Clerks participants such as Jason Mewes and Brian O'Halloran. The film hit IndieGoGo last year to raise money for production and now we have a first look with a teaser trailer. As for the story, no synopsis has been released, but we imagine it tracks Smith's efforts to get the movie off the ground, along with a look at what was happening

Kevin Smith offers Stan Lee a part in Clerks III

Kevin Smith is set to bring the curtain down on his filmmaking career by bringing things full circle with another Clerks movie, and during a recent edition of his podcast Fatman on Batman, Smith has revealed that he's written a part for a familiar face from the View Askewniverse in Clerks III.

"I'm writing Clerks III and you've got a part," Smith told comic book legend Stan Lee, who of course popped up in 1995's Mallrats to offer some sage advice to Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee). "You're in the first... I think it's like the first ten minutes."

So far confirmed to appear in Clerks III alongside Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson's Dante and Randall are Jason Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob, along with Clerks II stars Trevor Fehrman (Elias) and Rosario Dawson (Becky) and Marilyn Ghigliotti, who portrayed Dante's girlfriend Veronica in 1994's Clerks.

Kevin Smith looking to self-finance Clerks III

The crowdfunding website Kickstarter made headlines recently thanks to a record-breaking campaign to raise financing for a movie version of the television series Veronica Mars, which has seemingly alerted Hollywood producers to this new - and potentially lucrative - source of funding. One filmmaker who has flirted with the idea of crowdfunding is Kevin Smith, although Smith has now revealed that he's had a change of heart and instead is looking to self-finance his next (and supposedly final) film Clerks III.

"As for funding [Clerks III], we nearly Kickstarted the budget back in November," said Smith during a Reddit Q&A (via ComicBook). "But now I’m feeling like that’s not fair to real indie filmmakers who need the help. Unlike back when I made Clerks in ’91, I’ve Got access to money now – so I should use that money and not suck any loot out of the crowd-funding marketplace that

The news broke last Friday that writer/director Kevin Smith's last movie will be Clerks III - ending off his career with the movie he began it with. From all accounts, the news broke a little earlier than planned, although Smith did reveal some more details about the film's production and plans on the latest episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast with Ralph Garman and long-time producer Scott Mosier. The episode can be heard here, but in case you don't fancy listening to the two-hour long show (although you should as it's really funny and insightful), here are the highlights:

Smith starts off by talking about the genesis of Hit Somebody and how it became a TV show which is taken from episode 99 of Jay and Silent Bob Get Old. He goes into a lot of detail about the disappointment of his Judd Apatow-esque Zack & Miri Make A

Experience the Alien Armageddon on December 6th

This has not been a good year for Los Angelino/extraterrestrial relations. First there was Battle: Los Angeles. Then The Asylum’s Battle of Los Angeles. Now there’s Alien Armageddon, which, not surprisingly, was originally titled Battleground Los Angeles.

On the same day that Cowboys & Aliens limps onto store shelves, another alien invasion movie featuring a cowboy battling aliens (judging by the cover art) will be touching down on DVD and Blu-ray via Phase 4 Films.

Starring Rochelle Vallese, Katharine MeEwan, Claudia Wells, Don Scribner, Marilyn Ghigliotti and DeeDee Bigelow, with a cameo by Virginia Hey, filmmaker Neil Johnson’s Alien Armageddon is an impressive looking low budget alien invasion effort about humanity’s last stand in the last remaining city on Earth – Los Angeles.

Have a look at the trailer. Seriously, have a look at it. Really damn impressive for low budget sci-fi movie.
