Sharron Miller was born in Enid, Oklahoma, USA. She began her career as a script supervisor, then worked as a film and sound editor before becoming a professional director. She is known for directing various award-winning television series and films, including Cagney & Lacey (1981), Homefront (1991), The Trials of Rosie O'Neill (1990), The Woman Who Willed a Miracle (1983), and Pigeon Feathers (1988). She has also written, produced and directed several short films, including Deportee (1976) and Cradle Song (1981).

She is the first woman to win the Directors Guild Award for directing a dramatic (non-documentary) film, for The Woman Who Willed a Miracle (1983).
