Joe's earliest notable credits are Simon & Simon (1981), Tour of Duty (1987), and The Equalizer (1985). Recent feature scores include Toolbox Murders (2004) and Mortuary (2005) for legendary film director Tobe Hooper, Who We Love (2021) (dir.: Graham Cantwell, Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia (2009) (dir.: Tim Matheson), Spiders (2013) (dir.: Tibor Takács), and for television, the series NCIS (2003). Most recently Joe wrote the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) nominated score to the feature film Who We Love (2021) for director Graham Cantwell.
Joe has been nominated for two Emmy awards, one for Mortal Sins (1992) (starring Christopher Reeve) and another for Miracle Run (2004) (starring Aidan Quinn & Zac Efron). The score to Who We Love (2021) earned him the Irish Film & Television (IFTA) nomination for Best Original Music. Joe has also won Best Song at the Rome International Film Festival (2004) for the title song to Finding Home (2003), lyric by Holly Conlan, and won Best Score at The Underground Cinema Awards (2010) for his score to the short film No Justice (2009) (directed by Dublin director Alan Walsh).
Joe has dual citizenship with both the U.S. and Ireland (EU).
