- Paid his way through college by working as a medic photographer. One of his assignments included photographing the severed head and dismembered limbs of a notorious double murder case which became the foundation for one of his first screenplays. "Headcase". Apparently, he took the job mainly because it supplied a darkroom and photographic equipment he could not afford at the time.
- One of his first jobs was rewriting Sean Penn's dialog for the political thriller 'Judgement in Berlin' (1988).

- Was originally signed to write and direct the New Line/Walden remake of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' (2008) and penned the original script. He left the project, however, after a decision was made to shoot the film in 3-D. He was ultimately replaced with effects specialist Eric Brevig and the script was heavily retooled to emphasize the new 3-D format.

Chart may have made the right decision because the film opened to such bad notices it was infamously pulled from British screens within 3 days of it's release.
- Designed and photographed the opening title sequence for actor Chris Sarandon's award winning short musical film "Snowfall".
- Mentored by close friend and veteran director Irvin Kershner ("The Empire Strikes Back" (1978). Kershner produced Chart's directorial feature debut "American Perfekt" (1997), which was officially selected for the 50th anniversary Cannes Film Festival.
