Bill Murray Recited a Dog Poem Set to Bach, Then Fell Asleep During ‘Isle of Dogs’ SXSW Premiere — Watch
Bill Murray brought his trademark lovable weirdness to Austin, Texas to mark the North American premiere of “Isle of Dogs” at the SXSW Film Festival. The Wes Anderson-directed movie was closing this year’s edition of the festival, and Murray had memorable appearances both before and after the stop-motion film’s screening.

On the afternoon of March 17, Murray popped up on the streets of Austin, Texas to perform a live rendition of Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s poem “Dog.” The actor was accompanied by a cellist performing music by Johann Sebastian Bach as he read the poem aloud in front of a group of tourists and festival attendees. Video of the performance has earned more than 62,000 views in two days.

Director Pam MacKinnon on “The Parisian Woman” and the Glass Ceiling that Still Exists on Broadway

Pam MacKinnon: Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation

Pam MacKinnon is one of most renowned directors on Broadway today. She won a Tony Award for Best Director of a Play in 2013 for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” making her one of only a handful of women to receive that honor. “The Parisian Woman” is MacKinnon’s latest work to hit the Broadway stage. It was written by Beau Willimon, the Academy Award and Emmy-nominated creator of “House of Cards,” and stars Uma Thurman, Blair Brown, Phillipa Soo, Josh Lucas, and Marton Csokas.

Get Out Director Breaks Down Fan Theories in Hilarious Video

Get Out Director Breaks Down Fan Theories in Hilarious Video
Jordan Peele is having an excellent week. Peele's horror thriller, Get Out, about a young black man going to meet his white girlfriend's parents for the first time earned three wins from the Independent Filmmaker Project on Monday night in New York City, including the Gotham Audience Award. Peele, helming his first movie, took home the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award and best screenplay honor. But before all of that, the director sat down with Vanity Fair to go over some fan theories about Get Out and the results are hilarious.

Get Out came out of leftfield as many fans of Jordan Peele expected him to make a comedy movie and apparently the Golden Globes still thinks that it's a comedy. In addition, there's a lot to dissect and the movie deserves repeat viewings to pick up on every little bit of information that was foreshadowed. Fans of the

‘Call Me by Your Name’: Editing Was Crucial to the Year’s Best Love Story
With an affectionate nod to Bernardo Bertolucci and Eric Rohmer, Luca Guadagnino has made the year’s best love story: “Call Me By Your Name.” The same sex romance starring Nyfcc Best Actor winner Timothée Chalamet (a breakout revelation) and Armie Hammer (who’s seductively feline) leads to something far more sublime than summer love. And it’s a movie in which desire and liberation blossom in the inviting and beautiful landscape of Northern Italy.

For Walter Fasano (Guadagnino’s go-to editor for 21 years), this dance of desire between 17-year-old Elio (Chalamet) and 24-year-old Oliver (Hammer) provided both an inner and outer poetry. “Our main intention was to let characters and the landscape breathe and not overwhelm with the editing,” he said. “At the same time, we wanted to have a control of the style and music editing for the ins and outs of shots because we did not want

The Current Debate: An Auteur Misfires in "The Killing of a Sacred Deer"

  • MUBI
The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the latest feature from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, is set in a recognizably American city, but otherwise occupies much the same kind of off-kilter reality as Lanthimos’ previous film, last year’s The Lobster. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a successful heart surgeon who returns every night to his stately house, attentive wife Anna (Nicole Kidman), and their two children. During his days at the hospital, he alternately spends time with and deflects a teenaged boy, Martin (Barry Keoghan), to whom he seems to owe some debt, the origin of which is unclear. A. O. Scott continues at The New York Times:It’s made clear soon enough. Martin, who seems both a little slow and spookily intuitive, turns out to be the evil force who will torment the Murphys. Some years earlier, Steven had performed an operation on the boy’s father, who subsequently died.

Hey Big Brother fans. We've got a new report that recently came out for the upcoming Celebrity Big Brother USA edition. This one is actually from one of the wannabe celebrity contestants himself. Perez Hilton of Perezhilton.com recently created a new post titled, "Celebrity Big Brother America!" In the post, he revealed that he wants to definitely compete in the Celebrity Big Brother USA season that's scheduled to start in a few months. In a very cocky or confident manner. Whichever way you want to interpret it. Perez explained why he should definitely be chosen to appear on the show as well as why some other celebrities who have shown interest shouldn't be considered. He called former Nsync boy band member Lance Bass a very nice guy, but too vanilla to be on Big Brother. On the other hand, he said of himself that he's going to "deliver," and

Alistair McGowan – your questions answered on piano, football and why he'll never impersonate Trump

The TV comic revealed how much he had to practise for his new album of piano classics, who he’s most asked to impersonate, and why he’s not as big a Leeds supporter as people think

2.12pm BST

Thank you for your questions. Time for some toast.

2.08pm BST

SundridgePete asks:

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever done, and is it worth watching?

I did two football videos called Football Backchat in the late 90s. I think there is a clip on YouTube of me re-voicing Les Ferdinand as if he is auditioning for a Bond film. I think that may be my funniest moment. Having said that, I'm hoping The Piano Album is more Katherine Jenkins than Florence Foster Jenkins.

2.02pm BST

saidzebedee asks:

Are you comfortable impersonating a black person, or an Asian (i.e. Jamaican, Indian accents)?

Yes, of course. Certainly in my stand-up act.

Q&A: Composer Fabio Frizzi Discusses the Thrill of Performing Live & Reflects on Working with Lucio Fulci

  • DailyDead
They collaborated creatively through multiple decades, creating cinematic magic on the screen that still resonates with horror fans today. As far as one-two punches go when it comes to directors and composers, Lucio Fulci and Fabio Frizzi pack a huge wallop, and in the years since Fulci's passing in 1996, Frizzi has kept the spirit of Fulci's movies alive through his music, including recent live performances of his scores, two of which will take place on October 29th and the 30th at the New York City's Music Hall of Williamsburg. Ahead of the anticipated shows, I had the honor of catching up with Frizzi for our latest Q&A to talk about the joys of performing live, collaborating with Fulci, The Beyond Composer's Cut, and more.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Fabio. Fans of your work have been able to see you perform

‘Neo Yokio’ Review: This Futuristic Netflix Story is The Greatest Robot Butler Anime of 2017
In the broad scope of anime history, it would be inaccurate (and maybe even a little unfair) to call “Neo Yokio” an unprecedented series. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a batch of six TV episodes with quite the same subject matter overlap as the latest Netflix animated effort. Starring the voice talents of Jaden Smith and executive produced by Ezra Koenig, “Neo Yokio” is a hyperspecific blend of neo-futurist metropolises, prep school drama, and high-society intrigue, all with a dash of field hockey and weekend jaunts to the Hamptons. The result is a bespoke anime that’s confounding at times, but always in search of new layers to its insulated universe.

Wisely, “Neo Yokio” doesn’t spend more than a narrated intro explaining the origins of its title city, an alternate futurist New York of sorts. Instead it revels in a slew of off-kilter details in the life

Why Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Solaris’ Sets the Standard for Movie Remakes

Why Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Solaris’ Sets the Standard for Movie Remakes
“I could tell you what’s happening, but I don’t know if that’d really tell you what’s happening.”

Steven Soderbergh could have done anything he wanted after the hugely successful trifecta of “Erin Brockovich,” “Traffic,” and “Ocean’s Eleven.” What he did was remake Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Solaris,” perhaps the headiest science-fiction film ever made — and one that didn’t necessarily seem suited to his sensibilities. The film has its defenders 15 years later — Barry Jenkins expressed his love for it just last week — but is rarely mentioned in discussions of the versatile filmmaker’s best.

Maybe that’s because it’s something of an outlier in his already varied filmography. Soderbergh has dabbled in genre pictures as often as any other filmmaker not specifically thought of as a genre director,
