‘Top Gun': A Short History of the Volleyball Scene (Photos)
In the thirty years since “Top Gun” was released, its sporty, bro-mantic volleyball scene has been parodied and oft-mocked for its not-so-subdued sexuality, set to the tune of Kenny Loggins’ “Playing With the Boys.” Director Tony Scott knew full well that women and men alike would likely be titilated by the sight of shirtless actors Tom Cruise (Maverick), Anthony Edwards (Goose), Val Kilmer(Iceman) and Rick Rossovich (Slider) — and eagerly put the film’s pretty-boy pilots on fully oiled display. “I didn’t have a vision of what I was doing other than just doing soft porn,” Scott recalled with

Bill Paxton: 2 Guns, Aliens, and auditioning in character

Interview Duncan Bowles 14 Aug 2013 - 07:41

Ahead of his scene-stealing role in 2 Guns, Bill Paxton talks about auditioning, Edge Of Tomorrow, and playing Hudson in Aliens...

Bill Paxton is a legend. Here at Den Of Geek, he needs little introduction, as his work with James Cameron alone has been enough to secure his reputation as a cinema icon - from the small role as a punk in The Terminator, to the hysterical Hudson in Aliens, as well as a sleazy Simon In True Lies and a rather more grounded Brock in Titanic, there’s nothing he hasn’t excelled at.

While Paxton’s mortality rate in movies is high enough to give Sean Bean a run for his money – he has the dubious honour of dying by Terminator, Predator and Alien, although there’s some debate about whether his character dies during the T-800 scuffle - the beauty of his

Trailer For Peruvian Sci-Fi Opus The 2Nd Horseman

Apparently, the city of Lima lends itself well to post-apocalyptic settings. For proof there's that modern B-movie classic, New Crime City, where Rick Rossovich is sent into a devastated Los Angeles, which has been converted into a prison colony, to hunt down some bad guys (yes, it's a cheap John Carpenter rip-off). My fair city circa 1994 was chosen to stand in for a post-nuclear holocaust La - and they didn't even bother to hide the graffitti for local soccer teams.Lima is once again standing in for the future in The 2nd Horseman, from first-time director Arthur Cross. Peruvian films rarely travel into science fiction territory, save for some independent, low-budget experimental efforts but this one is clearly aiming to become a sci-fi action blockbuster,...

(See more information on Jack Reacher's worldwide box-office performance below.) On the other hand, this past Friday Cruise had a solid early 2013 North American opening -- in limited released and on 3D, no less: This early Feb. 2013 weekend, Top Gun, the Tony Scott-directed 1986 action movie that made Cruise an international superstar, is getting a 3D rerelease in North America at 300 locations. Despite the chaos caused by winter storm Nemo, on Friday the Top Gun rerelease brought in an estimated $533k according to figures found at Box Office Mojo, thus easily surpassing the Harrison Ford / Steven Spielberg

The IMAX Poster for Top Gun 3D

More than twenty-five years after its original release, the late Tony Scott’s classic ’80s movie, Top Gun, will be returning to theatres next month in an all-new form: Top Gun 3D.

We saw the first trailer for the IMAX 3D release of the film earlier in the month, seeing Tom Cruise light up the skies once more. And with a week and a half to go before Top Gun 3D hits, the IMAX poster for the six-day event has made its way online.

Top Gun was re-mastered for the big screen from high-resolution original negative scans and painstakingly converted to 3D by Legend3D under the supervision of the film’s director, Tony Scott. Rendered in 3D, the film’s complex, long shots reveal extraordinary depth and clarity, allowing viewers to explore every detail of the action. From the spectacular aerial dogfights to the intense close-ups in the cockpits,

Thn’s Guilty Pleasures Day 25: Roxanne

There has already been a debate as to whether Roxanne is a guilty pleasure or not, I think it is because it’s an old romantic tale, but with a twist in the nose. Comic legend Steve Martin adapts the Cyrano de Bergerac play by Edmond Rostand and it’s one of his finest moments as a lead actor and script-writer.

For those in need of a little back story, Martin plays Charlie.D. Bales (C.D. from here on in), the local fire chief of small-town Nelson, British Columbia but he’s got one unmistakable thing about him, he has a giant nose and is pretty darn sensitive if anyone says anything about it. We learn this from the moment the film opens, as we witness him fight two men, only armed with a tennis racket after they assume he’s a pushover. Now, it’s obviously violent in

Arnold Schwarzenegger May Voice Animated Terminator 3000 Feature Film

Arnold Schwarzenegger May Voice Animated Terminator 3000 Feature Film
Hannover House and Annapurna Pictures currently hold the rights to The Terminator franchise, which revert back to James Cameron in 2018. While Terminator 5 has long been rumored to be the next film in the franchise, directed by Justin Lin and returning Arnold Schwarzenegger to the role that made him a worldwide icon, an animated feature film titled Terminator 3000 may come first.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to be interested in voicing the lead character, which will be CG animated in the same style as James Cameron's Avatar. A new piece of concept art, a title treatment created to help pitch the film, has been revealed. The second image is from Terminator Salvation, but offers a hint at what this new project will look like. Check it out below.

Hannover House President and Terminator 3000 developer Eric Parkinson discussed the project in length. Here is what he had to say.

Created by Bill Nuss, the hit show starred various actors over the years (they were always coming and going), including Rick Rossovich (Top Gun) , Darlene Vogel (TV’s Beyond the Break), Paula Trickey (TV’s The O.C.), Mario Lopez (TV’s Nip/Tuck) and Shanna Moakler (Big Momma’s House 2). The ultimate Michael Biehn interview: The Terminator, James Cameron, Aliens and more

In the first part of our extensive interview with actor Michael Biehn, we got to chat about his 1980s work in The Terminator, Aliens, and much, much more…

Anyone who’s familiar with my writing will know that I have a great love of under-appreciated actors. I’ll use any opportunity available to praise their work, and draw attention to films and performances that sometimes pass by relatively unnoticed.

Michael Biehn, for my money, is the most under-appreciated actor of them all. I’m sure most of our readers hold him in high regard, since he’s starred in several of the greatest films ever made, but to the general public, he’s less widely recognised.

Best known for playing father of the future, Kyle Reese, in The Terminator and D Hicks in Aliens (I’m well aware what the initial stands for, but I was crushed when the Special

Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Back as The Terminator!

Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Back as The Terminator!
It has now been confirmed. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as The Terminator in a new installment of the franchise to be directed by Fast Five's Justin Lin.

CAA is currently shopping a rights package to various different studios with both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Justin Lin attached. Robert W. Cort is producing, though no screenwriter has been hired at this time.

Pacificor currently holds the rights to The Terminator franchise. Universal, Sony, and Lionsgate are all reportedly considering the package that CAA has put together.

Like Man of Steel, which sees Warner Bros. in danger of losing certain rights to Superman, there is a rush to get a new Terminator into production soon, as the rights will revert back to James Cameron in 2018. Though he has no plans to ever make another Terminator, he would have to be included in any deal that would see another
