Will Naomi Watts (‘Twin Peaks’) earn her first Emmy nomination 19 years after ‘Mulholland Drive’ was rejected as a pilot?

Will Naomi Watts (‘Twin Peaks’) earn her first Emmy nomination 19 years after ‘Mulholland Drive’ was rejected as a pilot?
Naomi Watts became a star in 2001 with her breakthrough role in David Lynch‘s twisted Tinseltown nightmare “Mulholland Drive.” She reunited with Lynch 16 years later for his equally bizarre limited series revival of “Twin Peaks,” which could bring Watts her first career Emmy nomination. Interestingly, Watts might have already been an Emmy nominee had “Mulholland Drive” been produced as a series as was originally intended.

Lynch brought his surreal aesthetic to TV with the cult-hit 1990-1991 series “Twin Peaks,” which may have been ahead of its time as it was cancelled after its second season despite early acclaim and a total of 2 Emmys out of 18 nominations. Then in 1999 Lynch shot “Mulholland Drive” as a pilot for a new TV project, but it was rejected, so he completed it as a feature film that opened in 2001 to overwhelming critical praise. It was nominated for Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe Awards,

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’: Will Sara Bareilles, Alice Cooper & Brandon Victor Dixon break Emmy curse for live musical actors?

NBC’s live production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” broadcast on Easter Sunday, April 1, to excellent reviews (with a current MetaCritic score of 81). In recent years these live theatrical shows have become more popular on broadcast TV, and a few of them have gone on to win Emmys, like Fox’s “Grease Live” and NBC’s own “Hairspray.” But they haven’t broken through in movie/limited series acting categories yet. That could change this year with standout performers Sara Bareilles, Brandon Victor Dixon and Alice Cooper entering wide-open supporting races.

It’s true that John Legend could be nominated for and win Best Movie/Mini Actor for his leading role as Jesus, and he would gain Egot status in the process, but that race is stacked with admired A-list actors like Al Pacino (“Paterno”), Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“Patrick Melrose” and “The Child in Time“), Antonio Banderas (“Genius:

Tom Hardy Is 'Al Capone'

Sneak Peek actor Tom Hardy ("Mad Max: Fury Road") as iconic gangster 'Al Capone', from director Josh Trank's new feature, chronicling the life of the former Chicago mob boss, prior to his death:

The cast of "Fonzo" (aka "Cicero") also includes Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Kathrine Narducci and Linda Cardellini.

Hardy said he has been working closely with Warner Bros, "watching their gangster films — the ones with James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson...it’s interesting to get them, and a bit of 'Capone', into the bloodstream… The idea isn’t to remake those films but to get a flavour of them as we explore Capone’s career as a racketeer."

The "Cicero" screenplay was originally written by Walon Green, noted for writing director Sam Peckinpah's classic western "The Wild Bunch".

Actors previously playing Capone in film include Rod Steiger in "Al Capone" (1959), Neville Brand,

Kyle MacLachlan (‘Twin Peaks’) could follow in Tatiana Maslany’s footsteps by winning Emmy for playing multiple roles

Kyle MacLachlan (‘Twin Peaks’) could follow in Tatiana Maslany’s footsteps by winning Emmy for playing multiple roles
Emmy voters love rewarding performers who show their range and versatility by playing multiple roles — just look at Tatiana Maslany‘s victory as various clones on “Orphan Black” (Best Drama Actress, 2016). This year no one fits that bill more than “Twin Peaks” scene-stealer Kyle MacLachlan. In Showtime’s revival of the cult fave MacLachlan takes on three different characters: FBI Agent Dale Cooper, Cooper’s evil doppelganger, and the dimwitted Dougie Jones. Will MacLachlan follow in Maslany’s footsteps at the 2018 Emmys?

SEEKyle MacLachlan (‘Twin Peaks: The Return’): Playing 3 characters this time was a ‘new adventure’ [Complete Interview Transcript]

“To be honest, it was exciting,” MacLachlan told us when we recently interviewed him about the pressure of playing three roles. “[With Cooper] there was a connection to the past, but these two new roles definitely pointed toward the future and they were asking me as an actor to do things that I had never really done before.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls Trailer Is An Enchanting And Frightful Delight

When author John Bellairs first delivered the elevator pitch for his 1973 novel, The House With a Clock in its Walls, the genre mash-up was hailed as something of a gothic horror story designed specifically with child readers in mind.

And nowhere is this family-friendly plot more apparent than in the spooky first trailer for Universal’s big-screen adaptation, which comes to us by way of Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment – therein lies the intersection between shock horror and light-heartened fun for the whole family.

In saying that, you’d be forgiven for thinking that The House With a Clock in its Walls was actually Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning efforts on The Shape of Water. Starring Jack Black (Goosebumps) and Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok), Eli Roth’s delightful adaptation tells the story of a young, recently-orphaned boy, played by Owen Vaccaro,
