Clinton-Patterson Thriller Nabs Dennis Quaid for Audiobook (Exclusive)

Dennis Quaid, who has carved out a niche playing distinctly American heroes like Gordon Cooper in The Right Stuff, Doc Holliday in Wyatt Earp and Sam Houston in The Alamo, will narrate the audiobook edition of the Bill Clinton-James Patterson thriller The President Is Missing. The book, Clinton's first novel, drops June 4 and is widely expected to be one of the summer's biggest beach reads.

This is Quaid's second turn at audiobook narration, following The Right Stuff, which came out earlier in the year. Of note, Quaid actually played Clinton in the 2010 TV movie The Special Relationship.

Barbara Pierce Bush — a beloved first lady, proud mother of six children, accomplished author and passionate champion for family literacy — passed away on April 17, 2018.

Mrs. Bush believed that every man, woman and child should have the opportunity to secure a better life through literacy. In 1989, this belief inspired her to establish the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which has provided educational opportunities for Americans of all ages, in all 50 states, over the past 29 years.

Jean Becker, member of the Foundation’s board of directors and chief of staff to President George H.W. Bush, shared, “Mrs. Bush was a mother first and foremost, and as such believed that the most wonderful gift she could give her children — and families across America — was a love of reading and learning.”

Today, the Foundation remains committed to Mrs.

Just a Reminder That Hillary Clinton Once Attended Donald Trump's Wedding

You'd never know it from the 2016 presidential election, but Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton used to be something resembling friends. In fact, she even attended his 2005 marriage to current wife Melania Trump. You see, before they were sworn political enemies, the Clintons and the Trumps got along pretty well. Pictures from Donald and Melania's star-studded nuptials show Hillary and husband Bill Clinton posing with the newlyweds — and even laughing at something Donald was saying. Bo Dietl, a fellow guest at the wedding, once gave NPR__ a report from the front lines. "When Donald and Melania came out to greet a lot of the guests, I saw Hillary going over and… kissing them. And she was very pleasant with him," he said. Bill and Hillary at Donald and Melania's wedding. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) The Clintons had good reason to seem chummy with the Trumps, though. 'Looming Tower': Stars and Creatives Talk 9/11 Depiction and How the Political Climate Has Changed

Back in the summer of 1998, while the rest of the country was obsessing over Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton, an FBI agent named John O'Neill was not-so-quietly investigating a growing terrorist threat, arguing to anyone who'd listen that Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida was planning an attack on U.S. soil. Not many did. And, proving that history has a sense of irony, three years later — on Sept. 11, 2001 — O'Neill ended up in the World Trade Center during the tragedy.

O'Neill's story was largely unheralded until Lawrence Wright made him the centerpiece of his 2006 Pulitzer Prize-winning...

‘American Crime Story’ Season 4 Won’t Be About Monica Lewinsky, Ryan Murphy Says

  • The Wrap
‘American Crime Story’ Season 4 Won’t Be About Monica Lewinsky, Ryan Murphy Says
Ryan Murphy isn’t touching the Monica Lewinsky-Bill Clinton scandal after all.

The showrunner said he’s scrapping the proposed season of his FX anthology series “American Crime Story,” which would have followed the story that rocked the nation in the ’90s about a then-intern’s affair with the then-potus, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday. The report came on the same day History decided to scrap the Clinton impeachment drama series “Breach.”

Jeffrey Toobin’s 2000 best-seller, “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal that Nearly Brought Down a President,” had been optioned as the source material for the season over a year ago. But Murphy decided against going through with his version of Lewinsky’s tale. And he said that to her face.

“I told her, ‘Nobody should tell your story but you, and it’s kind of gross if they do,'” Murphy told THR of discussing the matter with Lewinsky at a party in Hollywood. “‘If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer and you should make all the goddamn money.'”

Luckily, the “American Crime Story” team — which includes executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson — have at least one story locked in and ready to go. The upcoming third season, which centers on Hurricane Katrina, is currently in production and was originally slated for release ahead of the sophomore installment, “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” but wasn’t ready in time.

Representatives for FX and 20th Century Fox declined to comment on Murphy’s decision to scrap the season when reached by TheWrap.

History has scrapped plans for a six-episode scripted series about the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

The Breach: Inside the Impeachment of Bill Clinton” from executive producer R.J. Cutler was ordered straight-to-series in September. No reason was given for the decision to cancel the series.

The story, based on Peter Baker’s best-selling non-fiction book “The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton,” was planned as a deep dive into the scandal featuring major Republican and Democratic players in the White House and Congress.

The series would have tackled infighting among the president’s advisers, the secret back-channel negotiations between the White House and Congress, Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, and the manner in which Clinton, his family, and his political opponents all dealt with the fallout.

Produced by FremantleMedia North America in association with A+E Studios, “The Breach” was to have been co-written by David K. Israel and Cutler, producer of the Academy Award-nominated documentary “The War Room” about Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Cutler was also set to direct the series.

Why the New 'Roseanne' Reboot Just Plain Sucks

Let's be real for a second: The real Roseanne reboot had already happened long before this past Tuesday, and it was called Lady Bird. Darlene was now going to Catholic school; Aunt Jackie was playing the mom. But otherwise, Greta Gerwig's film had all the tropes that made the original Roseanne great: grit, compassion, family fireworks, blue-collar heart, feminist soul, a lovable lunk of a dad and Laurie Metcalf's sarcastic sneer. In other words, it had everything that's missing from ABC's new reboot version. Gerwig made a

President and Mrs. Obama In Talks To Produce Series For Netflix — Report

  • Indiewire
ObamaFlix? According to a New York Times report, former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are in talks with Netflix to produce programming for the streaming service.

Nothing is official, and Netflix couldn’t be reached for comment on the news. But the New York Times pointed out that the Obamas don’t plan to use the shows to comment on the Trump Administration or politics, but rather, to explore important subjects near to their heart.

“In one possible show idea, Mr. Obama could moderate conversations on topics that dominated his presidency — health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change — and that have continued to divide a polarized American electorate during President Trump’s time in office,” the newspaper wrote. “Another program could feature Mrs. Obama on topics, like nutrition, that she championed in the White House. The former president and first lady could also lend their brand

Did Andy Griffith Pave the Way for Donald Trump? (Guest Blog)
It seems that these days we watch the duplicitous face of Richard Nixon — refusing to resign, denying all charges — as often as when he was in Watergate hell. We also are once again seeing footage of Bill Clinton giving his “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” testimony. Those are the real historical figures that political journalists are comparing to our current leader, Donald Trump, as he faces special counsel Robert Mueller — and Stormy Daniels. As for the reel ones, history also offers films that reflected Trumpish behavior. “Network” often is the handiest comparison, with...
