Bigas Luna was born on March 19, 1946 in Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain as Josep Joan Bigas Luna. He was a writer and director, known for Anguish (1987), Jamón, Jamón (1992) and La teta y la luna (1994). He was married to Celia Orós. He died on April 6, 2013 in La Riera de Gaià, Tarragona, Catalonia.

Was a graphic designer and writer of fiction before becoming a filmmaker.
At the moment of his death he was working on a Segon origen (2015), a science fiction film based on a novel by Manuel de Pedrolo.
Was the first director attached to Perdita Durango (1997), but turned it down due disagreements about the screenplay with producer 'Andrés Vicente Gomez'. Álex de la Iglesia took the job.
He discovered actors Ariadna Gil, Javier Bardem, Jordi Mollà, Penélope Cruz and Verónica Echegui.
He was a bon vivant who, with his wife, produced wine, ham, and organic products.
Between 2008 and 2012, he served as art director of the oldest musical café in Europe, El Plata, in Zaragoza, for which he created a cabaret show entitled "Cabaret Ibérico".
