Kareem Abdul-Jabbar learned to dive on ‘Splash’ before ‘Dancing with the Stars: Athletes’ [Watch]
Like Johnny Damon, “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” isn’t Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s first reality rodeo. But while Damon just used his business acumen to fit whatever fancy of Donald Trump’s on “Celebrity Apprentice,” Abdul-Jabbar did something far more daring on a far better, but sadly short-lived, show: “Splash.”

Splash,” ABC’s version of the Dutch hit, aired only one season in 2013 and was just “Diving with the Stars.” It was ridiculous, awesome, fun as hell, and my former TV Guide colleague Sadie Gennis and I miss it very, very much. Everyone had personalized walkout songs for God’s sake! (Abdul-Jabbar’s song was appropriately named “Skyhook.”)

‘Dancing with the Stars: Athletes’: Which sports have the best track records?
Seven sports are represented by the 10 athletes on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” including some of the show’s staples. But which sport’s athletes have done the best on the show? You can probably guess. Let’s look at these seven sports’ “Dancing” histories.

Football (Josh Norman)

As everyone knows, football is by far “Dancing”’s favorite sport. They don’t even try to hide it. Nineteen football players have hoofed it before this season, and while they haven’t all made it to the business end of their respective seasons, football has produced four winners, three runner-ups and two third-place finishers. So, no pressure, Josh, to follow in these pigskin players’ footsteps.

Figure skating

Figure skating is “Dancing”’s second favorite sport, though it’s still well behind football. Before this season, six

Sam Rockwell Dedicates Oscar Win to Philip Seymour Hoffman

Sam Rockwell Dedicates Oscar Win to Philip Seymour Hoffman
Sam Rockwell won the Oscar for best actor in a supporting role for his performance in Martin McDonagh’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and in his acceptance speech, gave a shoutout to a late Oscar-winner: Philip Seymour Hoffman.

At the end of the speech, he rose his trophy in the air and concluded, “For my old buddy Phil Hoffman!” Hoffman died in 2014 at the age of 46. Rockwell had previously said Hoffman was a friend of his, and both actors were members of the Labyrinth Theater Company.

During his speech — a rushed one, as Rockwell joked he was trying to win the jet ski that host Jimmy Kimmel teased in his monologue — Rockwell thanked his fellow nominees and “Three Billboards” co-stars Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand. He also gave a charming anecdote about his parents’ love of film growing up.

“When I was 8 years old, I was sent to the
