Remembering the 1982 Comedy Classic Zapped

Let’s not even get into the fact that there was a 2014 teen film of the same name and pseudo plot. I’m talking about the Scott Baio and Willie Aames starred film Zapped that came out in 1982. Would you like a quick refresher in case you haven’t seen it? Barney Springboro (Scott Baio) is a high school science nerd at Emerson High in Los Angeles who obtains telekinetic powers after a lab accident. Along with his best friend Peyton Nichols (Willie Aames), a wealthy playboy with a dirty mind, Barney uses his new powers to take revenge upon bullies,

Debi Thomas and Other Broke Stars of the ’80s and ’90s: Why So Many Are Hitting Rock Bottom

Back in the ’80s and ’90s, some of Hollywood’s biggest stars seemed to have it all: beauty, big money and the adoration of millions. But thanks to a string of bad investments, drug addiction and extravagant spending, many once-wealthy actors and entertainers — including, most recently, 1988 Olympic bronze-medal-winning figure skater Debi Thomas — now find themselves virtually homeless and penniless. “At the very peak I was making about $1.6 million a year,” former “Eight Is Enough” and “Charles In Charge” star Willie Aames told TheWrap. But after his accountant suggested investing his money in a bad coalmine deal, Aames found himself owing.

Dick Van Patten's Costars Pay Tribute to Late Eight Is Enough Actor
Dick Van Patten's costars fondly remember the man who played their patriarch for four years on Eight is Enough.

"He was the perfect person to play the quintessential father figure, because it was real," actor Willie Aames tells People. "You'd see him with his kids and with his family and he was just such a positive, pleasant, great guy."

Van Patten, who played father of eight Tom Bradford on the series from 1977-81, died Tuesday from complications with diabetes. He was 86.

"He was our rock, our leader, our role model," Betty Buckley, who played Van Patten's fictional wife Abby Bradford,

We haven't heard rumors of any Fuller House-style reboots planned, but two stars of classic '80s TV show Charles in Charge got together Tuesday night for an informal reunion. (What would an actual reboot be called? Charles More in Charge? Charles in Charge-r?)

Love Always: Phoebe Cates

Presenting “Love Always,” a recurring feature in which we pay tribute to the women who helped shape our views on pop culture.

This time we pay a 51st birthday tribute to Phoebe Cates. She retired from acting 20 years ago (save for a brief bit in her pal Jennifer Jason Leigh‘s 2001 The Anniversary Party) to raise her family with husband Kevin Kline, but she gave us a couple of iconic moments in the 80′s that will live forever.

Here are seven reasons why I will Love Always Phoebe Cates.

That Scene In Fast Times At Ridgemont High

1982′s Fast Times At Ridgemont High introduced us to Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sean Penn, Forest Whitaker, Eric Stoltz, Anthony Edwards, Judge Reinhold and gave Brian Backer his best film role since The Burning.

It also gave us, without a doubt, the greatest nude scene in film history … that involved breasts. When Phoebe came

Film Review: Weak Story Wipes Out ‘Chasing Mavericks’

Chicago – After the initial disappointment that “Chasing Mavericks” wasn’t about the pursuit of John McCain archetypes – it’s political season, don’t you know – it was interesting to note that mavericks are water waves, and chasing them means surfing. Hang ten, dudes.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

Basically this film is a watery “Karate Kid’ – complete with an appearance by Elisabeth Shue – that features surfboards instead of crane kicks. Gerard Butler is the “Mr, Miyagi” surfer dude, and he sports long locks and a California accent straight out of Scotland. Wasn’t “Endless Summer’ the last word in surfing movies? How about Frankie and Annette? “Chasing Mavericks” is a harmless diversion that has stiff dialogue, fuzzy character motivations, sudden death and the audacity to be based on a true story. Besides that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the movie? Oh, that’s next week.

Jay Moriarty (Jonny Weston) is a 1980s-90s working class boy in Santa Cruz,

9 Guilty Pleasure Beach Movies

The beach movie has come a long way from the days of Frankie & Annette, Gidget and The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini.

On second thought, maybe it hasn't changed at all. They've always been about the same things: babes, beefcake, and trying to get laid without getting sand in your nether regions.

Of course, the beach films of yesteryear could only hint at it, but you knew that beneath the Aquanet and Brylcreem, those kids were waiting to sexually explode (in between having to dodge all those giant radioactive insects so prominent in that era).

The beach films of recent times don't have to hint at anything, and can be as blatantly sexual and nuded up as they want. And they don't have to tiptoe around the "love that dare not speak its name" either, although if you read between the lines of those 60's films, we were always there,
