Tallinn Film Review: ‘A Thought of Ecstasy’

Tallinn Film Review: ‘A Thought of Ecstasy’
The arthouse erotic psychodrama, already territory heavily land-mined with projects of dubious intent, is done no favors by the pornographic posturing of German writer-director-actor Rp Kahl’s turgid “A Thought of Ecstasy.” Strongly making the case that aside from other people’s dreams and other people’s holiday photos, there’s nothing drearier than other people’s sexual fetishes, the film even has the gall to chip away at the legacy of one of the genre’s few masterpieces.

Deborah Kara Unger (who also executive produces) husks and purrs through a “Red Shoe Diaries” version of the icily dehumanized femme fatale she embodied in David Cronenberg’s “Crash,” which only serves to illustrate the yawning gulf between the two films: One is about a deadening sexual obsession with car crashes while the other is itself a deadening car crash about sexual obsession. The only good news is that “Ecstasy” is so committed to its full-frontal nudity, erect

Frightfest 2017: ‘Jackals’ Review

Stars: Stephen Dorff, Deborah Kara Unger, Jonathon Schaech, Nick Roux, Chelsea Ricketts | Written by Jared Rivet | Directed by Kevin Greutert

They knew it would take steely resolve and iron daring to go up against the violent sect who have brainwashed their teenage son, Justin. But the estranged Powell family and the cult deprogrammer they’ve hired in desperation had no idea how soon they would become the bloody prey in this suspense shocker, which is apparently based on a true 1980s story…

A riff on the Assault on Precinct 13 template of a building under siege, Kevin Greutert and co. try to bring something new to the all-too-familiar story, giving Jackals an extra depth with the cult deprogrammer angle. However the idea of a cult going to such lengths to retrieve a lost member basically seems like a throwaway storyline: an excuse for the “bad men” to attack our protagonists,

First Trailer for Action Film 'Vengeance: A Love Story' with Nicolas Cage

"Leave us alone!" FilmRise has debuted an official trailer for a new action film titled Vengeance: A Love Story, adapted from the Joyce Carol Oates novel titled Rape: A Love Story. The story is about a local police officer who goes for vengeance when a local gang rapes a woman. The criminals find a way to walk away free thanks to a hot shot lawyer, and so the detective takes matters into his own hands. Nicolas Cage stars as John Dromoor, with a cast including Anna Hutchison, Talitha Bateman, Deborah Kara Unger, Don Johnson, Joshua Mikel, Rocco Nugent, Joe Ochterbeck, Carter Burch, and Charlene Tilton. This looks like a generic vengeance movie, especially with Nicolas Cage, but who knows. It's also interesting they removed the word "rape" from any description of this film, but it's definitely a major part of the plot. Here's the first trailer (+ new poster) for Johnny Martin

We see more character development with a Fourth of July party where Teena continues to act like a slut, embarrassing her twelve-year-old daughter Bethie Maguire (Talitha Bateman).
