The Virgin Suicides

Sofia Coppola’s first feature film is a head-swirling poetic essay about adolescent angst and terminal self-destruction in suburbia, where some families are unbalanced, others are dysfunctional and some are just plain toxic. Coppola sticks close to the source book, looking for visuals to express author Jeffrey Eugenides’ solution-challenged mystery, narrated by a composite group of teenaged boys.

Several NYC Productions Make the Move Out West

California just persuaded another television production to pack up its operation and head west, bringing more jobs for actors to the state. Amazon’s “Sneaky Pete,” starring Giovanni Ribisi and Marin Ireland, and co-created by Bryan Cranston, is the 13th production to move from another state to California. Competition among states to create the most enticing tax breaks for productions is high. In 2014, California state legislators agreed to virtually triple the incentive for in-state film and television productions. The tax break program launched the following year, pumping money and creating jobs within the state’s economy. California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program 2.0 not only enhances the annual production incentive, but it also opens the gates for all sorts of projects that are applicable for a deal—from feature films to pilots to one-hour specials. New York topped the list for this pilot season by luring 12 projects to the

‘Sneaky Pete’ Relocating Production to California to Receive Tax Credit

The Amazon series “Sneaky Pete” is relocating production for its third season from New York to California, and has been approved conditionally to receive a $9.2 million tax credit from the Golden State.

The California Film Commission made the announcement on Monday, noting that “Sneaky Pete” will employ nearly 250 cast, 220 crew, and 2,510 extras. The series plans to spend more than $53 million in qualified expenditures — defined as the portion of total expenditures allocated for wages to below-the-line workers and payments to in-state vendors.

The relocation makes “Sneaky Pete” the 13th TV series to relocate to California under its three-year-old expanded tax credit program.

‘Sneaky Pete’ Season 2 Review: Amazon’s Thriller Runs a Familiar but Fun Con as Margo Martindale Wows

‘Sneaky Pete’ Season 2 Review: Amazon’s Thriller Runs a Familiar but Fun Con as Margo Martindale Wows
For anyone that forgot the strange origins of “Sneaky Pete,” Season 2 is here to remind you of what it could have been, what it is, and why it’s caught in between. Tossed out by Bryan Cranston during his 2014 Emmy acceptance speech, the term “sneaky pete” originated as the “Breaking Bad” star’s childhood nickname, but once the president of Sony TV heard it, he was transfixed. He called Cranston the day after his win and they started developing a series…

… for CBS. “Sneaky Pete” was originally shot as a pilot for broadcast television. It was shopped as a procedural where the con man would crack cases of the week, one after the other, while masquerading as a long-lost member of the family, returned home to help out during a time of need. When CBS passed, Cranston and Graham Yost reshaped the idea into a serialized story for Amazon, the

The truth is right here: what The X-Files must do to find its way

Gillian Anderson has said this season will be her last – and maybe that is a good thing for a show that needs to get back to ghouls and UFOs and stop getting bogged down in backstory

Well, that’s it. Once this season of The X-Files is over, Dana Scully is no more. Gillian Anderson has decided that it’s finally time to retire a character who has loomed over her career since 1993, when she was but the wee age of 24. “I’ve done this now for decades,” she said on a recent press tour, “and it’s time for me to hang up Scully’s hat.” Scully’s frustrating lack of an actual hat notwithstanding, after 25 years chasing ghouls, aliens and Giovanni Ribisi, you have to agree that both Anderson and Scully probably deserve a bit of a sit down.
