Dumbo,” directed by Tim Burton and loosely inspired by the 1941 animated film, stars Danny DeVito as the owner of a struggling circus. He enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock.

“We’re all family here, no matter how small,” Parker tells the sad-eyed elephant.

Magical First Trailer For Tim Burton’s Dumbo Movie Takes Flight

That little baby elephant with the ginormous ears takes flight in today’s magical first trailer for Disney and Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo movie.

Starring the likes of Colin Farrell, Eva Green and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia favorite Danny DeVito as circus ringleader, Max Medici, this is a refreshing new take on the old Disney classic, and one which follows in the footsteps of other live-action remakes like Cinderella, The Jungle Book and last year’s wildly successful Beauty and the Beast.

But with its all-star cast and adorable title character, Dumbo will likely skew toward a younger audience. Although if Colin Farrell is to be believed, adults will have just as much fun basking in the Disney nostalgia come 2019.

Honestly, I was like a child in a sweet shop, I really was, I was so giddy. I had this sustained excitement during the whole thing because

Watch the First Trailer for Tim Burton's Dumbo

  • Cinelinx
This morning brings us our first look at Disney's live-action Dumbo, that's bothly enchanting and melancholic. Come inside to check it out!

To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to Dumbo all that much. The original cartoon movie isn't among my favorites, but there's something about this morning teaser trailer that has my full attention:

Tim Burton has great visual style, and his fantastical approach lends the trailer an air whimsy that makes everything mesh together really well. I'm getting distinctive Big Fish vibes (one of my favorit Burton films) and there's nothing wrong with that. Where I had no interest before, this teaser for Dumbo has me anxious for more.

As Disney goes into its animation vault to pluck their beloved features and turn them into live-action tentpoles, despite making enough money to turn Mickey’s eyes green, the results have been mixed at best. While Cinderella started things off on a noble, classical foot, The Jungle Book had technical proficiency but no soul, then there was the ghastly, lifeless Beauty and the Beast. In 2019, we’re getting three more of these reimaginings in the span of just five months and the trailer for the first has landed.

Dumbo, a remake of the 1941 film, comes from Tim Burton, who has been looking for a major hit after a number of disappointments this decade. Starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, and Alan Arkin, these teaser is quite effective in its imagery, showing off a family-friendly alternative to Okja.
