Movie Review – Gloria Bell (2018)

Gloria Bell, 2018.

Directed by Sebastián Lelio.

Starring Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Michael Cera, Caren Pistorius, Holland Taylor, Brad Garrett and Sean Astin.

A middle-aged divorcée begins to reclaim her lust for life when she starts a new relationship.

The drive to remake foreign language films in English is often a sad one – a mark of the fact that American and British audiences are notoriously afraid of reading subtitles. Sometimes, though, the original filmmaker themselves decides to have a go at giving their work a revamp for audiences in the Anglophone world. Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio is the latest director to step up to the plate, remaking his 2013 movie Gloria as Gloria Bell, with Julianne Moore in the title role.

Moore’s Gloria is a divorcée who spends her weekends dancing with carefree ease at nightclubs and attending weird laughter therapy classes. She meets Arnold (John Turturro) on one of

Die Hard on a Shoestring: The Low Budget Die Hard Clones

Tom Jolliffe takes a look at some low budget Die Hard clones…

It may not have been the first of its kind, but when Die Hard came out, from the moment Bruce Willis entered the Nakatomi plaza, a new sub-genre all of its own was launched – ‘The Die Hard Movie’. None have compared, whether it was the sequels to the original, or big budget escapades like Under Siege (Dh on a boat), The Rock (on Alcatraz), Executive Decision, Passenger 57 and Airforce One (Dh on Planes), Sudden Death (at an ice hockey stadium) or Skyscraper (Dh…back in a Skycraper…) to name a few.

There have been innumerable big screen riffs. At the same time, through the video era up until now, many a B movie god, or even Sean Astin (IcebreakerDie Hard at a Ski resort against a villanous Bruce Campbell) have delved into McClane’s territory. Die Hard on a shoe-string.

Matthew Modine Running For SAG-AFTRA Presidency On Membership First Slate
Exclusive: Matthew Modine has thrown his hat into the ring as a candidate for president of SAG-AFTRA. Modine, a member of the union’s local and national boards of directors, is running at the top of the Membership First ticket, the self-styled progressive wing of the union that promises more democracy and transparency — which the union’s loyal opposition says is in short supply. He seeks to unseat Gabrielle Carteris, who’s been president of the union since 2016.

“As a current national and local board member of SAG-aftra, it would be my honor to represent all 160,000 members of the union I have proudly been a member of for nearly four decades,” he said in a statement. “It is my privilege to stand up for our legacy in order to safeguard our future. Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 14 Review: Ticking Clocks

Brooklyn Nine-Nine switches things up yet again with a real-time episode. Read our review!

This Brooklyn Nine-Nine review contains spoilers.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 14

Mama Maglione! Once again, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has offered a new twist on their tried and true formula with great success, this time taking the 24 approach and showing an investigation in real-time. Honestly, it’s surprising that the real-time case concept hadn’t already been done by this show, but it’s another welcome off-format episode that gives the entire cast the ability to share one story.

Even though all of our main characters are involved in the search for a hacker looking to expose NYPD’s undercover files, it still allows tiny B-plots, like Terry and Boyle dealing with mean sorority girls and Hitchcock and Scully’s quest for the perfect side dish for their microwavable lasagna, to pop up. The most successful of these is

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Recap: Code Red
A review of “Tickling Clocks,” this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, coming up just as soon as I find out about the hot goss…

“Tickling Clocks,” a frantic hunt for a precinct hacker that plays out in real time, is the fifth out of 14 episodes so far in Season Six to notably shift the series’ usual tone or structure. That’s following “Four Movements” (Gina says goodbye to everyone in very different ways), “The Crime Scene” (Jake and Rosa spend weeks obsessing over an unsolvable case), “He Said, She Said” (Amy

Goonies Sequel Not On The Cards, But A Reboot Is Possible

“Hey, you guuuuys!”

If there’s one iconic ’80s movie that could do with the reboot/remake treatment, Richard Donner’s The Goonies would be pretty high up on everybody’s list, right? Though rumors were circulating a few years back of a full-blown sequel to 1985’s beloved comedy-adventure flick, nothing concrete ever came to fruition.

In a recent interview though, actor Sean Astin – who played Mikey in The Goonies – was asked about the possibility of a modern sequel, and here’s what he had to say:

I think we’ve probably passed the threshold for which all of us original cast members are right for doing a sequel.

Even though the chances of an official follow-up to the classic were dismissed by the The Lord Of The Rings star, he did offer fans some hope of a possible reboot, saying:

The audience is so powerful and so devoted to

Comic Con Calendar: Upcoming Conventions in 2019

Aaron Sagers May 15, 2019

We have a guide to the can't miss comic cons and fan conventions in North America coming in 2019!

Just as there are no limits to fandom with an amazing breadth and scale of stories to fall in love with, there are no limits to the places to explore that fandom alongside your nerd herd, or geek tribe of choice.

For the better part of a decade, and at least the past six years, I have worked as a nerd-gone-pro, speaker, host, and moderator at up to two dozen cons annually across the country, and the globe. Suffice to say, I know and love the con scene. While there are staples to most pop culture events – celebrity signings, photo ops, cosplayers, t-shirt and toy vendors, after parties and hopefully an endless selection of comics – each town has a unique vibe due to eclectic bunch of attendees.

It is

Goonies 2 Probably Won't Ever Happen, But Sean Astin Is Okay with a Reboot

Goonies 2 Probably Won't Ever Happen, But Sean Astin Is Okay with a Reboot
Exactly five years ago, way back in April 2014, director Richard Donner boldly proclaimed that The Goonies 2 was officially happening with himself back at the helm and most of the original cast set to return, except for perhaps Jeff Cohen, who played Chunk and went onto become a big time law professional who left acting behind in his teens. Since that time, we've only heard the murmurs say it was still happening, though some of the cast have come out at various points claiming it was dead. Now Sean Astin, who starred as Mikey in the movie, doesn't think it will ever happen.

It seems The Goonies cast is too old to return for another adventure. Sean Astin has been doing the promotional rounds for his new Netflix series No Good Nick. Of course the subject of The Goonies 2 came up. Sadly, it sounds like this sequel is way

Melissa Joan Hart Explains Her "Really Unique" New Show and Gives Clarissa Explains It All Reboot Update

Melissa Joan Hart Explains Her
Melissa Joan Hart's new show is like nothing she's ever worked on before.  Netflix released the first 10 episodes of No Good Nick on Monday, and it might not be the typical family hijink sitcom you expect. It's a little bit more of a dramedy, with a mystery element thrown in. We'll let Hart explain.  "No Good Nick is a really unique show. It's something different than I've ever worked on or really ever seen. It's basically Sean Astin and I are the parents of these two kids, and one day a little girl knocks on our door and says you're the closest relatives I have left, you're supposed to take care of me, and she becomes our foster daughter, but basically the...

Stranger Things: Here's Why You Recognize Hawkins's Terrifying Journalist
Extra, extra! There's a new journalist at The Hawkins Post who's about to stir up trouble on Stranger Things. Fortifying its rock-solid main cast with new characters, the Netflix series' third season will introduce us to sketchy reporter Bruce, an up-to-no-good newsie with questionable morals and a twisted comedic sensibility. If the baddie in the latest season three trailer looks familiar to you, that's because you've probably seen him before. Bruce is played by none other than Jake Busey, who's been terrifying us for years with his wild-card characters on TV and in films. And yes, if you recognize that last name, he is indeed Gary Busey's son.

The 47-year-old actor is known for his part as evil serial killer Johnny Bartlett in the 1996 film The Frighteners (below). According to Busey, the Duffer Brothers loved him in that movie so much that they created the character Bruce just for him.

Stranger Things: If You Don't Recognize the Mayor, You Must Have Been Born After 1990

  • Popsugar

It's not so strange for Netflix to cast our favorite stars from the '80s on Stranger Things - over the years, the gritty sci-fi series has blessed us with performances from Winona Ryder, Sean Astin, and more. In the third season, we'll yet again see a beloved actor who dominated the decade: Cary Elwes. If you don't already know him, the English actor played the extremely handsome farm boy (and your childhood crush) Westley in The Princess Bride. Over three decades later, he'll now be guest starring as Hawkins's Mayor Larry Kline, a major proponent of the shiny new Starcourt Mall.

The Princess Bride (below) is Elwes's biggest project, but it's certainly not his only one. The English actor, now 56 years old, has had a prolific career, lending his talents to movies, TV shows, animated works, and theater productions. His work has been in many different

Here Are the Chances of Joyce and Hopper Finally Hooking Up on Stranger Things

Here Are the Chances of Joyce and Hopper Finally Hooking Up on Stranger Things
The full-length trailer to Stranger Things season three dropped recently, and with it came a ton of juicy snippets for fans to spend the next three months obsessing over. One of most noteworthy things for us was the quick shot of Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) sitting in a fancy restaurant looking oh-so-dapper in a white suit jacket . . . then a quick cut to Joyce (Winona Ryder) sitting at home glumly picking at her dinner for one.

It's a great reminder that these two crazy kids deserve a little grown-up happiness - and maybe in season three they're going to get some it.

If you'll recall, neither Hopper nor Joyce has had an easy go of it. They're both divorced, plus Joyce lost her boyfriend Bob (Sean Astin) last season and Hopper tragically lost his daughter to cancer before the events of the show. The show did the characters a huge favor
