‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 hoping for Golden Globes retaliation after shocking Emmy losses

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 hoping for Golden Globes retaliation after shocking Emmy losses
While the Golden Globes are known for heavily rewarding a show in its first season only to drop it like a hot potato for Season 2, “The Handmaid’s Tale” had to incur this type of sudden drop-off at the 2018 Emmy Awards. Last year, “The Handmaid’s Tale” had the splashiest debut at the Emmys for any new show in a while, winning eight Emmys including Best Drama Series, Actress for Elisabeth Moss, Supporting Actress for Ann Dowd, Directing and Writing. The Hulu drama went into Season 2 as a favorite to win many of these categories again, only to be shut out on the main telecast. Now the series can only hope for the upcoming Golden Globes to finally get some love for Season 2.

Julia Roberts Admits Her 'Feelings Got Hurt' After Online Haters Slammed A Recent Instagram Photo Of Her

Actress Julia Roberts is getting candid about how mean and judgemental comments about her appearance on social media negatively effect her self-esteem. In July, Julia's 27-year-old niece, Scream Queens star Emma Roberts, shared a make-up free photo of the two playing cards via Instagram and the pic sadly elicited some hateful words from Emma's followers. "Something did happen recently on my niece Emma’s Instagram that I think taught me a lot about what it’s like being a young person in today’s society," Julia told Harper's Bazaar in the magazine's newest issue. She then explained that Emma slept over one night and, in the morning, they both woke up, made tea, and decided to play a game of cards. A few days after the aunt-niece duo shared a "beautiful morning" together, Emma posted a photo on Instagram reminiscing about the fun family time. View this post on Instagram

It’s the last chance for ‘The Americans’ to win something — anything — at Golden Globes

It’s the last chance for ‘The Americans’ to win something — anything — at Golden Globes
Hey, Golden Globes voters: Did you know that you’ve never given “The Americans” a single trophy? Not for Matthew Rhys. Not for Keri Russell. Not for Best Drama Series. FX’s critically acclaimed spy thriller signed off earlier this year, so it’s now or never to finally reward the series with a trophy (or two). That’s exactly what happened at this year’s Emmy Awards, when voters gave it farewell prizes in Best Drama Actor (Rhys) and Best Drama Writing (Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg).

See‘The Americans’ mirrored ‘Friday Night Lights” final Emmys run in more ways than you think

While it’s true the Hollywood Foreign Press Association traditionally favors new shows and stars, they have been known to go back and reward older fare they may have missed over the years. One of TV’s most cherished shows of all time, “Breaking Bad,” is a prime example of this.

‘The Happy Prince’ Review: A Wilde and Crazy Guy

‘The Happy Prince’ Review: A Wilde and Crazy Guy
Rupert Everett turns his fascination with Oscar Wilde, the 19th-century Irish poet and playwright who was persecuted and jailed for “gross indecency with men” (the word homosexual was never uttered), into a film of righteous anger, touching gravity and wicked Wildean wit. Having played the literary lion on stage in David Hare’s The Judas Kiss and characters in film versions of An Ideal Husband (1999) and The Importance of Being Earnest (2002), Everett shows a kinship with the role that goes beyond an openly gay actor playing a gay icon. ‘The Romanoffs’ & ‘Camping’ Review: Matt Weiner & Lena Dunham Go ‘Full Frontal’

‘The Romanoffs’ & ‘Camping’ Review: Matt Weiner & Lena Dunham Go ‘Full Frontal’
Watching Matthew Weiner’s upcoming The Romanoffs and Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s Camping, I couldn’t get over the feeling I had seen these seriously flawed series before — and it was Steven Soderbergh’s Full Frontal back in 2002.

Coming off the Oscar success of Traffic and the box office hit Ocean’s Eleven, Soderbergh’s Julia Roberts-led misfire was a big-screen lesson in what can happen to immensely talented people when left entirely to their own devices. That is what we have here with The Romanoffs, the October 12-launching Amazon anthology series from the Mad Men creator, and Camping, the October 14-debuting HBO limited series from the Girls executive producers based on the 2016 UK series.

Like Soderbergh’s film within a film with a face plant, these pretentious offerings might have sounded good over dinner-party conversation after a couple bottles of wine. However, as I say in my video review above,

‘Ben Is Back’ Trailer: Lucas Hedges Has Another Award Season Contender Opposite Julia Roberts

When Lucas Hedges was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2017 for his turn as a beleaguered son in “Manchester by the Sea,” it seemed like it might have been something of a one-off nod. While he showed flashes of brilliance in his performance, it was difficult to tell whether or not he’d be able to replicate his success in subsequent roles. However, with turns in two of last year’s Best Picture nominees, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Lady Bird”, as well as upcoming roles in “Honey Boy”, “Boy Erased,” and “Ben Is Back,” Hedges’ initial promise appears to have been founded and worthy of the nomination.
