How Hollywood Is Updating the Afterlife for a Wired, More Secular Generation (Guest Blog)
It seems that every other show these days is dealing with the afterlife. But the current crop is not about the needy awaiting miraculous help from those seeking their wings. Today’s creators are appealing to the wary, wireless generation, hoping they can help themselves, and others, before it is too late. Call it the Desired Deathographic.

And it seems to be working. Those who should be more concerned with beginnings than endings, may be tuning in to see favorite performers like Daniel Radcliffe, Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne, but they are staying for the touch of proactive spiritualism. God, in various guises, may play a role, but this is not about religion, per se. At least not the traditional kind.

“We have the social media component, [which] has become our own sense of worship, or self-worship,” says Bryan Wynbrandt, one of the creators of CBS’ “God Friended Me,” which features

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of 1989: ‘Batman,’ ‘Do the Right Thing,’ ‘Driving Miss Daisy,’ ‘The Little Mermaid’ and more

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of 1989: ‘Batman,’ ‘Do the Right Thing,’ ‘Driving Miss Daisy,’ ‘The Little Mermaid’ and more
Big hair, shoulder pads, neon clothes. Everything seemed bigger and brighter in the 1980s, and the movies of that era reflect that. And the greatest of those 10 years turned out to be the last one: 1989 brought us “Batman,” “Dead Poets Society,” “Do the Right Thing,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Field of Dreams,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Sex, Lies and Videotape,” “Steel Magnolias,” “When Harry Met Sally” and a whole bunch of excellent sequels. Let’s take a look back at the 30th anniversary of the 1989 film year.

Many productions that fared well at the box office consisted of sequels and the big blockbuster action films audiences hungered for. Out of the top ten grossing movies of 1989, four were sequels and three spawned sequels later on. Additionally, five of these films – “Batman”, “Last Crusade”,”Gbii”, “LW2” and “Honey” – were released between Memorial day weekend and July 4th, breaking box office records and setting

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 11 Review: The Therapist

Too many plots to service hampers an otherwise decent Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Read our review!

This Brooklyn Nine-Nine review contains spoilers.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 11

If anyone needs to see a therapist, it’s Jake Peralta. Like Terry points out, Jake has been through some pretty traumatic stuff throughout Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s run, and as Dr. Tate observes in this episode, he does tend to use humor as a coping device to handle events like grizzly murder investigations. Jake has juvenile justifications for all of his shortcomings, but that itself shows exactly why Jake should be going to counseling. Exploring the idea of putting Jake under the microscope in “The Therapist” leads to funny moments, and yet Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t commit fully to the bit, mainly because of time constraints, making this just another serviceable episode instead of a truly great one.

Part of the issue is that, after spending

‘Acts of Desperation’ VOD Review

Stars: Jason Gedrick, Paul Sorvino, Erin O’Brien, Kira Reed Lorsch, Treva Etienne, Tim DeZarn, Neraida Bega, Dee Dee Sorvino, Vince Lozano, Chris Coppola, Matthew Alan Brady, Asante Jones, Tomas Johansson, Jackie Falcon | Written by Nathan Illsley | Directed by Richard Friedman

Richard Friedman, whom genre fans will know as the director of Arrow Video titles Doom Asylum and Scared Stiff, helms this cop drama starring Jason Gedrick – an actor who’s probably most well-known for the Iron Eagle franchise of the 80s but whom also starred in one of the most underrated TV cop shows of the 90s, Ez Streets. Friedman is no stranger to cop dramas either, having helmed episodes of Silk Stalkings and Baywatch Nights alongside a myriad of genre television.

With Acts of Desperation Friedman manages to parlay all his experiences into one film; the ridiculousness of films like Doom Asylum and Phantom of the Mall melded

"Two Guys, A Girl and-oh My God What The Fuck? Here we go again...

That's in refrenced to his old sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Ryan Reynolds is covered in blood, though his two friends are not. The image reunites Reynolds as hitman Michael Bryce, alongside Selma Hayek as the hitman's wife Sonia, and Samuel L. Jackson as the hitman himself Darius Kincaid. Why is Bryce doused in thick red syrup while his friends aren't? Perhaps he jumped in front of a bullet to save them. That is his job, after all.
