This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97
X-Men ’97 has released about six episodes so far, and each one has been praised for the quality of its animation and storytelling. With a cast committed to delivering a great performance, the show has received nothing but praise each week, singlehandedly eradicating superhero fatigue from the cultural zeitgeist.

X-Men ’97 directors Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura talked to ComicBook.com about their latest episode, Lifedeath Part 2, one that deals with Storm regaining her powers after they were stripped from her in the second episode of the show. They also mentioned one major constraint that the team faced while making the episodes, and how they approached it as an opportunity to be creative rather than look at it as a problem.

James Gunn has advised Joe Manganiello to consider moving on from his role in the Dceu. The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.
Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke in Justice League
Apart from that, there were talks of a potential standalone Deathstroke movie, for which Manganiello even had a screenplay prepared. Despite DC Comics’ interest in the screenplay, Gunn suggested he let go of any potential plans for the character.
James Gunn Convinced Joe Manganiello to Move On from Deathstroke
With James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe with Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the possibility for Joe Manganiello to reprise his role as Deathstroke has been less. However, the actor still had hopes for introducing an origin story for the DC villain.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

In many ways, Zack Snyder brought a unique aesthetic to the world of superheroes when he entered the DC franchise to bring his version of Superman to life with Man of Steel. What do you call world-building when it’s built entirely out of worlds that have already been built? I wouldn’t call it cinema; it might be closer to Lego with attitude. Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” like his “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” is a sci-fi action fantasy so familiar and generic, so borrowed from and inspired by other things — it’s the 1977 “Star Wars” meets “Seven Samurai” meets “The Lord of the Guardians of the Rings of the Galaxy” — that it’s already the theme-park version of itself. Yet compared to most of the media, I was kind to “Rebel Moon — Part One.” Released just four months ago, it was an oversize banquet of fanboy fast food, not a film to take seriously, but I couldn’t deny that I found it highly watchable, unlike the countless critics who seem to...

Back in 1979, director Ridley Scott was mostly unknown outside the realm of commercials, though that would quickly change with his second feature, “Alien.” At the time, those who got to see the movie probably didn’t realize they were watching a movie that would forever change horror and science fiction, as the movie introduced a number of deadly creatures, including the lethal alien of the title that would one day be relabelled, “xenomorph.”
45 years later, 20th Century is re-releasing the sci-fi/horror movie back into theaters for a limited time on April 26, dubbed “Alien Day,” as it will include limited edition posters and other special tie-in collectibles. This may have been prompted by the upcoming August release of filmmaker Fede (“Don’t Breathe”) Alvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus,” giving parent company Disney a doubly good reason to release the original movie back into theaters. With some scientists believing they are a form of extraterrestrial life, producer James Cameron’s new documentary TV miniseries “Secrets of the Octopus”, narrated by Paul Rudd, reveals one of the strangest living creatures on Earth, streaming April 21, 2024 on National Geographic:
“…in every ocean, just beyond our shores, lives an animal with characteristics we think of as ‘human’ – intelligent, social, curious, gentle, and fierce.
“They build cities, use tools, and collaborate with other species to hunt. They have personalities – some are bold, while others shy. These animals can change their skin colour, texture, and body shape in a blink of an eye and see in wavelengths beyond our vision.
“Recent studies reveal octopuses’ consciousness, sophisticated decision-making, and unique personalities. On tropical reefs, in frigid waters, from the shoreline to the deep sea and everywhere in between, the octopus have made a home…

Over the years there have been several entries into the sci-fi genre touching upon the concept of extra-terrestrial life. Yet Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien remains one of the best movies ever made in the genre. A movie that puts the audience on the edge of their seats from start to end, it is a masterclass in suspense, tension, and terror.

While the fans and viewers certainly enjoyed every scene of the alien flick, having their hearts in their throats all the time, it was the cast who truly went through the worst. And one scene specifically was so terrifying that actress Veronica Cartwright ended up fainting.

In 2017, Ryan Gosling starred in "Papyrus," a "Saturday Night Live" sketch about Steven, a man fixated on the issue of our time: "Avatar," one of the most expensive and successful movies ever made, used the basic Papyrus font for its logo. Surely the graphic design team had resources to experiment more? To get to the bottom of this conspiracy, Gosling's character takes to stalking one of them.
The joke at the heart of "Papyrus" is how it's made in the style of a prestige drama, from the heavy violin score to the dramatic car crash. Gosling, a true movie star with a talent for committing to the bit (watch him perform "I'm Just Ken" from "Barbie" live at the Oscars), acts with deepest sincerity in "Papyrus."
The sketch caught on so much that even "Avatar" director James Cameron eventually commented on the use of Papyrus (his response: "I like the font"). Well,...

After much anticipation, the sequel to the 2017 sketch “Papyrus 2” has finally emerged despite being cut for time during the live broadcast, making its debut on YouTube.
The original sketch was conceived by former “SNL” writer Julio Torres, who was inspired by a past tweet in which he mused, “Every day I wake up and remember that Avatar, a huge international blockbuster, used the Papyrus font for their logo, and no one stopped them.”
Directed by Dave McCary (who also shot the previously pointed Torres sketch “Wells For Boys” with his now-wife and current collaborator Emma Stone), this meditation on obsession and a questionable font became the logo for James Cameron’s massive franchise.
Gosling recalled the (alleged) decision-making process of choosing the font papyrus for the blockbuster, in the past sketch, “Like a thoughtless child just wandering by a garden, just yanking leaves along the way.” Eventually, his character would...

Ryan Gosling’s return as Saturday Night Live host allowed for the actor to appear in some sequel sketches, including reuniting with Kate McKinnon in an alien abductee support group and, perhaps more notably, reprising his role as a man haunted by the Avatar font.

It has been hailed as one of the most memorable Saturday Night Live videos of the past decade. During his second turn as host in 2017, Ryan Gosling headlined a video titled Papyrus in which he plays a man obsessed by the fact that James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar used Papyrus, a common letter style, for its logo. The skit has raked in 12M views on YouTube alone.
In his return for his third hosting stint this week, Gosling revisited the SNL classic with Papyrus 2, which was released online after the episode’s airing on NBC.
In the latest, Gosling is triggered when, while watching Avatar: The Way Of Water during dental surgery, he notices the title of Cameron’s sequel and initially believes it doesn’t use the font. But he later realizes that the style still is Papyrus because the designer “just put it in bold.” That sets the...

When it comes to the most iconic leads to grace the silver screen, one can’t leave Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley out of the equation. While the Alien IP has witnessed several installments since its inception in ’79, the first two releases remain the franchise’s peak, often considered some of the most important contributors to the sci-fi landscape.
So it’s unsurprising to see why most hold one of the first two as one of their favorites from the iconic IP, and when Weaver was asked about her favorite one, she was quick to answer.

The recipient of numerous accolades including two Golden Globes and a Grammy, Sigourney Weaver is undoubtedly one of the best actresses in Hollywood. She is well-known for her diverse filmography which comprises films like Alien and Working Girl; while the former is a sci-fi horror, the latter is a romantic comedy-drama.

Weaver rose to fame with her performance as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 smash hit Alien. She reprised her role in the three sequels after the first movie’s success. Every entertainment buff knows how the one saga perfectly connected to Ridley Scott’s name is the Alien franchise. And that is only understandable, considering how this very film series is still regarded as his best one, even after being originated almost four and a half decades ago, in 1979. That said, the filmmaker has his own favorite movie from the saga too!

But his favorite is a lot different than what many may expect to be. This is because even though Scott’s peer and fellow mastermind James Cameron is credited for creating the best film from this movie series, the filmmaker is still in incredible admiration of his original movie, i.e. the one that started the craze for this sci-fi cult classic.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a renowned film personality and is known for his action movies all over. One of his most famous franchises is The Terminator. The first film in the series The Terminator almost had ex-NFL star Oj Simpson was allegedly the first choice for the role. Arnold opened up about it himself in an interview a few years back.
For the unversed, Simpson was born Ornethal James Simpson, an American football player with a controversial life. He was accused of murdering his former wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman in the 90s. During one incident, he tried to escape the police in his car, and it was reportedly widely televised. In 2007, he was arrested and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

Director Steven Spielberg has delivered many blockbusters, and has touched many lives with his art. The filmmaker is known for extremely personal films on a blockbuster scale, with films such as Jaws, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and Jurassic Park being some of his most acclaimed films. He has also won the Oscar twice for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan.
While Spielberg has been known for his blockbusters, he was also reportedly clairvoyant in predicting the cultural phenomenon that George Lucas’ Star Wars was going to be. The Indiana Jones filmmaker reportedly believed in the legendary space opera’s success even more than Lucas himself, who only believed that it was a hit after the first weekend.

It’s difficult to imagine James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984) with an actor in the lead other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The star propelled the franchise to fame, and it also cemented his legacy in Hollywood, but he was surprisingly not the studio’s first choice for the role.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator
Cameron knew exactly what he was looking for when he cast Schwarzenegger. Consequently, the director immediately refused the idea of having former NFL star Oj Simpson involved in the movie.
James Cameron Clarified Mystery Behind Oj Simpson’s Involvement In The Terminator
In an interview with Independent, former professional bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger shared he was not the first person in mind when James Cameron was prepping for The Terminator.
“It was actually Oj Simpson that was the first cast Terminator. Then somehow [James Cameron] felt that he was not as believable for a killing machine. So then they hired me.

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o said that when word came her way that she’d been selected to receive CinemaCon’s star of the year award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, it led her to ponder what cinema has meant to her.
“One of my strongest memories from my adolescence came to mind,” said the 41-year-old actress while accepting the trophy inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday night. “My very first date was going to see a movie at the cinema in Nairobi, Kenya, where I grew up. I was 16. Not only was I going out with this boy I liked for the first time, but I would be watching my crush Leonardo DiCaprio in none other than Titanic.
Nyong’o, honored for her upcoming turn in Paramount Pictures’ thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, said she was beyond excited to see DiCaprio in the 1997 disaster epic from James Cameron.

The venerable “Alien” franchise has nearly 10 films under its belt and, somehow, every time a space crew member’s chest bursts open and a horrifying little creature crawls out we’re still terrified.
Such was the case on Thursday at CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas, where Disney showed off an extended look at its latest entry “Alien: Romulus.” Directed by Fede Álvarez, the movie follows a group of solar explorers who stumble on an abandoned space station. Guess what’s on board?
Cailee Spaeny leads a next-gen cast of unfortunate souls that must contend with creatures with fun names like facehuggers and Xenomorphs. An extended trailer shows the team navigating dilapidated terrain as tensions escalate, bodies pile up, bones crack and blood starts to spill.

Tom Arnold has joined the cast of writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s drama “The Gun on Second Street.”
The film, for which Storyboard Media launched international sales during last year’s Cannes Film Market, is produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films with Rikin Shah serving as one of the executive producers.
An allegory of the gun crisis in the United States, “The Gun on Second Street” follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street. This quickly escalates to a violent scuffle as Officer Tj Meadows III accidentally shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun. Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatized, Tj moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to Kevin’s widow, Kacie. Arnold will take on the role of Police Chief Richard “Dick” Steinberger,...

As you've likely heard by now, O.J. Simpson has passed away at the age of 76.
One of the most famous -- and infamous -- Americans of the modern era, Simpson was known for many things:
He was, of course, a world-class athlete, a standout at running back for the NFL's Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.
Later in life, he would become the center of the most high-profile murder trial of the 20th century,
And though he beat the charges under dubious circumstances, the lingering suspicion that Simpson murdered his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, would make him a pariah in the upper-crust social circles that had served as his comfortable domain for so many years.
But before O.J. ever earned a dime from professional football -- before he was arrested for murder and before he served nine years in prison on unrelated robbery and...

"Fallout" spoilers follow.
The highly anticipated "Fallout" live-action adaptation is finally here and it lives up to expectations. This is a post-apocalyptic story that is simple enough to be universal — a girl searching for her kidnapped father, while multiple stories converge around a bounty. And yet, much like James Cameron's "Avatar," it is the worldbuilding that is the star. This is not Pandora, of course, but the wasteland, a nuclear landscape that is still as tangible as George Miller's "Mad Max" world, full of history and lore.
The show brings the games to life through some exquisite production design. Every aspect of the wasteland, from the ruins of the old world to the many mutated creatures roaming it, to the game's unique brands scattered throughout, and the detailed vaults that safeguard the remnants of non-radiated humanity. Like the games, there's a lot of visual storytelling going on here,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the famous Hollywood action star, has a net worth of $400 million. However, some risky decisions may have affected his wealth.
For instance, take the movie Kindergarten Cop. Even though the film was a huge success, according to the former-bodybuilder, it could have earned $25 million more.
Kindergarten Cop (1990)
Kindergarten Cop follows the story of John Kimble, a tough cop played by Schwarzenegger. In the movie, Kimble goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to track down the ex-wife and son of a dangerous drug lord, who are in hiding.
Suggested“We’ll just cut her out”: James Cameron Sent a Threat Through Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Agent to Get Sigourney Weaver Back For Aliens’ Sequel
Its legacy is a complex one. While it did well financially, it also stirred up discussions about what’s appropriate for children in movies. While some people enjoyed its humor, others were concerned about the level of violence it portrayed.

Leonardo DiCaprio has always had a penchant for choosing challenging roles that have required the actor to give every ounce of himself physically and emotionally. Fans of the upcoming video game, Star Wars Outlaws, are eagerly awaiting the official story trailer set to release on April 9th. However, some fans have already expressed their disappointment in the game, even before the trailer has aired.
This sentiment is due in part to Ubisoft’s inconsistent track record of delivering games that do not live up to their initial trailers in recent years. It remains to be seen whether this negative perception will affect the game’s success upon release.

Reconstructing the US senate investigation that followed the disaster, this was made with a tiny fraction of James Cameron’s budget but has an authentic feel
It’s been over a century since the Rms Titanic disaster, and while all manner of catastrophes have happened since, somehow this one haunts the imagination of storytellers and historians. You could blame James Cameron for making the blockbuster Titanic in 1997, but clearly that film was a symptom not a cause. Maybe it’s the scale of tragedy, the huge numbers of dead, or the adjacent fact that so many of them died senselessly because there weren’t enough lifeboats and the upper-class passengers were packed on to what boats there were before the tired, huddled masses travelling below deck could even get close.
Made on a limited budget that probably wouldn’t have covered the cost of supplying the crew with biscuits for Cameron’s epic,...

[Editor’s note: This list was originally published in January 2023. It has since been updated with new titles.]
Save for Tom Cruise and maybe Kevin Feige, no name carries more weight in the world of tentpole filmmaking than James Cameron.
In December 2022, more than a decade after the writer/director’s triumphant “Avatar” became the highest grossing movie of all time, Cameron’s sequel and visual effects marvel “Avatar: The Way of Water” provided a massive splash of ticket sales for a drought-ridden box office. It’s now the third highest grossing film of all time, and its run propped up theaters in what IndieWire’s Tom Brueggeman described as a good start to the 2023.
That’s standard fare for Cameron, of course. He first made box office history in 1997 with the epic historical fiction romance “Titanic”: a cinematic knockout that ran in theaters for nearly ten months and remains the fourth highest grossing movie ever made. He won Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Editing at the year’s Academy Awards.

Update: Producer and Archivist Robert Harris has reached out to JoBlo to add his take on James Cameron’s 4K releases, saying, “These films have not been restored in any way, nor was restoration needed. There should be no problems with the original elements. The work performed was a re-visualization. An entirely new digital product, which (to varying degrees of success) appears to have achieved Mr. Cameron’s goals. If these were attempts at restoration, they would fail in all regards. All best, Robert Harris.”
Not long after reaching out to us, Harris sent a follow-up email with more comments:
Allow me to chime in again and possibly clarify. Very much akin to Titanic, these films seemingly were restricted during production based upon accessible technology – be it film stock, optics – whatever.
The original filmmaker, by virtue of newer technologies, has seen fit to update the way...

While James Cameron has been intensely busy with his “Avatar” sequels, the filmmaker has been developing many projects over the years concurrently over at 20th Century Studios. One of those is a sequel to “Alita: Battle Angel” that he’s been speaking with Disney and Robert Rodriguez about—logistics such as budget and platform, surely part of the conversation. At the same time, Cameron’s been working on another long-gestating project, a remake of the classic 1966 film “Fantastic Voyage,” which he had nearly directed himself.

The long-gestating sci-fi remake of Fantastic Voyage, which could pair James Cameron with Guillermo del Toro, is still on the cards, according to the Avatar director.
According to James Cameron, his long-gestating remake of Fantastic Voyage is still happening. That in itself is newsworthy given how long Cameron has been talking about this project. The filmmaker wrote a screenplay for the film decades ago, but in the wake of Titanic's success in 1997, he became transfixed with realising the alien world of Pandora onscreen and with the exception of a couple of documentary films, has only released two Avatar films in the quarter century since.
As far as Fantastic Voyage goes, Cameron’s plan has long been to produce the film, with Gullermo del Toro being the man to direct it. We’ve seen Cameron ‘godfather’ films before while working on the never-ending production of the Avatar films, not least...

As far as iconic roles go, you can do no better than the Terminator. Starting off the franchise as a terrifying bad guy, the T-800 is quite possibly the most famous robot in all of science fiction, and somehow one of the most beloved. Even in that first movie where he's a deadly force of nature, he's still so cool and intimidating that one can't help but respect him a little. Everyone likes a guy who's good at his job, even when the job is dooming humanity.
Although the role helped make Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name, the actor himself wasn't thrilled about the idea when it was first offered. "I said, "No, no, no — look, the guy has 17 lines,'" he explained in a 2014 oral history of the first film. Most actors want to get meaty, dialogue-heavy roles to show what they're capable of. Meanwhile, "The Terminator" not only...

Sometimes your entire world can change in a single moment. For a young Tia Carrere’s world became more excellent one trip a local grocery store where the parents of a man who was producing a movie saw her and told her about this movie their son was shooting. This would lead Tia Carrere to land a role in the film Aloha Summer. She says she was super nervous because she had never acted before and hadn’t even thought of it as an option in her life but she did it! Ms Carrere grew up wanting to be a singer…. and she did that too!
After rocking everyone’s world in the Wayne’s World cinematic universe film franchise, Tia Carrere became a household name in the early nineties while also standing toe to toe with some of the biggest names in the business. But after a few bad turns...

When A Romantic Beach Getaway Turned Almost Fatal For Chris Pratt – Here’s What Happened Next! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sometimes, romantic escapades turn into a dreadful experience and stay engraved in people’s minds. Many of you would agree with this. At least the Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt would! The actor once had a near-fatal incident on a romantic break, and that was years even before his relationship with Anna Faris. During the promotion of his film The Magnificent Seven, the actor shared this frightful incident several years ago.
Chris gained recognition and fame as Andy Dwyer in the Parks and Recreation series, and after appearing in several movies as a supporting actor, his breakthrough came after playing Star-Lord in the MCU and as Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films. Pratt has also lent his voice in several animated movies and for the lead character. Some...
