Midnight movies

An anthology, though it really just cobbles together existing movies that no one watched. Watch it for the ham-fisted editing... and the really goofy, 80's music video.

80's melt movie with a game of keep away that made me squirm but laugh out loud. Make sure you stick around for the second-rate Sinatra knock-off at the finale.

Ridiculously violent and so much fun!

I give it 3 out of 10, but don't let that deter you from watching this cheese fest. Runtime is only 66 minutes, and especially cool in 3-D!

Short movies work well for a midnight schedule because you can easily watch two in one sitting. This one is very short and wildly entertaining, though ultimately very tragic.

There are many, many Laurel & Hardy movies, some long, some short, which I watch repeatedly. This is just one, good example.

Really like this one. Some think the XXX inserts don't fit with this, but I disagree. Regardless, just as enjoyable without them. Neither version is suitable for family viewing, clearly.

Pretty decent Satanic flick with the beautiful Candace Glendenning. Michael Gough certainly did his fair share of disreputable roles, though he'll always be Alfred the Butler to me.

Low budget, but very likeable Satan-themed movie from the 70's (natch). Features Alvy Moore in a role not unlike his gentle character on Green Acres, Hank Kimball.

Wild haunted house film. Just bonkers and good.

Well known for Tom Savini's effects, not so much for Tom Savini's acting. Caroline Munro deserved an Oscar for pretending to be interested in Joe Spinell.

Provides more laughs than shudders and is all the better for it.

Just might ruin your impression of the elderly neighbor from Home Alone, Roberts Blossom. Here he portrays a man eerily similar to serial murderer Ed Gein, though he is often more humorous than horrifying.

Jamie is a very naughty boy. Also clumsy and stupid.

Italian sequel to the Australian original about a comatose man with telekinesis. Has substantially more nudity and fire pokers than the first one. Apparently sponsored by J&B Scotch?

Some of that strange 70's magic about a misogynist with dual personalities, one meek, the other virile, both loony. Robin Sherwood is delightful.

Neat story with fantastic finale. Erika Blanc was perfectly cast.

Susan is mistreated by her new husband. Fortunately, Mircalla Karnstein emerges to show her how to respond. So many nice touches in this terrific shocker.

The original classic that helped make Troma a household name! (Well, certain types of households anyway)

Another entertaining Troma satire. Relatively astute and entertainingly 80's from start to finish.

Touching, thought-provoking, beautiful, sentimental, intelligent, clever: just several of the many words that in no way describe this movie. One trashy movie.

John Parker delivers a chilling performance as a man-child, who, along with his brutish brother, keeps young women chained captive in his basement and allows them out only to play his demented games.

At least once a year I invite myself to spend the night with Trish, Jackie, Kim, Diane, Valerie and Courtney. Giddyup!

A perfect way to end the 70's was this dreamlike horror. What distinguishes it is the relationship between brothers Mike and Jody, and their stalwart pal Reggie.

I live for junk like this. Way cool music by Charles Bernstein completes the package. Nearly perfect.

Pretty decent extraterrestrial horror. What elevates it is the relationship between college buddies Chris and J.C. Would have better without the religious overtones though.

Not nearly as gruesome as it sounds, but a crowd pleaser nonetheless. Features a stable full of Corman stars: Mary Woronov, Paul Bartel, Dick Miller, Gerrit Graham and Mel Welles.

Another nearly perfect flick about a serial killer targeting prostitutes. Darkly funny, with Brother Theodore Gottlieb spreading his unique brand of mania here as he did on Letterman a few years later.

Oddball movie about kids turned rotten by noxious gases. Many nice touches throughout, my favorites being Rita Montone as a woman in the running for Mother of the Year and kids being hacked to pieces.

Starring Andrew Prine, King of the Nerds. Humorous little movie about a practitioner of the dark arts, both innocuous and malignant.

So downbeat and gritty, this is my favorite Andrew Prine movie. This consists of a few, disparate stories with only Prine in common.

Sure, the acting is weak (very) and the effects less than special, but the story makes up for it and New York never looked grimier. Plus, Terri Susan Smith shines in a thankless role, wig and all.

This one is pretty rotten and I suppose your enjoyment of it might be in direct correlation to how appealing you find Jackie Vernon. It works for me.
