True Detective - Season 2 Review
Season rating - 8.5-great
Highlight episode - Black Maps and Motel Rooms
Nowhere near the brilliance of the first season, and that's understandable given the excellent pairing there. The first half of this season was somewhat plodding and tedious at times with a plot that only became more and more muddled, not helped by the fact we had four main characters to keep up with. Regardless, from the shootout in episode four onwards the show vastly improved. Vaughn's character only got better as he went along and ended up being the best part of the show for me, along with Farrell's amazing performance also. McAdam's was pretty great, too, and although Kitsch didn't end up being too important or leave as good of an impact as the others, his final stand was truly great stuff and his death was pretty tragic, the highlight of the season for sure. Despite being an incredibly bleak end, the finale served the characters well and gave them fitting ends with a high-level of intensity throughout. Sucks Ray didn't get to take out Burris before dying, though. Hope the next season can be more honed in to avoid the convoluted problems this one did, however, the season was still pretty good.
