1. How to Get Away with Murder (2014– )
TV-14 | 43 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
A group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives.
Words can't describe my love for this show. It's the addictive drug you will never regret taking.
2. Orphan Black (2013–2017)
TV-MA | 44 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
A streetwise hustler is pulled into a compelling conspiracy after witnessing the suicide of a girl who looks just like her.
Orphan Black is quality entertainment, sophisticated and full of action. Both music and acting is always on point.
3. Pretty Little Liars (2010–2017)
TV-14 | 44 min | Drama, Mystery, Romance
Four friends band together against an anonymous foe who threatens to reveal their darkest secrets, while also investigating the disappearance of their best friend.
The ultimate guilty pleasure. It definitely has its ups and downs (in my opinion, mostly ups), but once you're on the ride, you can't help but feel fully entertained.
4. 13 Reasons Why (2017– )
TV-MA | 60 min | Drama, Mystery
Follows teenager Clay Jensen, in his quest to uncover the story behind his classmate and crush, Hannah, and her decision to end her life.
13 Reasons Why is like a darker American version of "Skam." It handles everything just right – I will actually go as far as to call it absolutely perfect. The messages behind it, the themes so well-done, the writing and music and acting is all on point.
5. iZombie (2015– )
TV-14 | 42 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
A medical resident finds that being a zombie has its perks, which she uses to assist the police.
Love, love, love this iconic show! You'll have to give it some time to really get into its style and sense of humor, but it's all great. In all honesty, I think this show has it all: Intensity, horror, action, humor, romance, sexiness, more humor, mystery, crime, zombies. And trust me when I say that iZombie aren't afraid to kill off characters, both minor and major.
6. Penny Dreadful (2014–2019)
TV-MA | 60 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, scientist Victor Frankenstein, and medium Vanessa Ives unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London.
The most brilliant horror show ever. Gothic, dark, beautiful, legendary.
7. Santa Clarita Diet (2017– )
TV-MA | 30 min | Comedy, Horror
Sheila and Joel are married real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California. When Sheila dies, their lives take a dark turn.
Disgusting, strange and hilarious – but in the best way possible. Not a show for weak souls. Definitely one of my favorites.
8. The Killing (2011–2014)
TV-14 | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
A police investigation, the saga of a grieving family, and a Seattle mayoral campaign all interlock after the body of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen is found in the trunk of a submerged car.
There's not much that sets The Killing apart from other crime shows and movies, except that it's extremely well-developed and full of quality. Besides the superb acting, the haunting scores, the beautiful camera work etc., it's really what you'd expect from a standard crime show, and in this case, that's enough.
9. Black Mirror (2011– )
TV-MA | 60 min | Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
An anthology series exploring a twisted, high-tech world where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide.
I'm honestly not a big fan of the first season, but from there the show is just phenomenal. It's pretty scary as we get to explore these alternative futures of ours and see how things might end up for us if we aren't careful.
10. Guilt (2016)
60 min | Drama
An American college student living in London becomes the prime suspect in her roommate's gruesome murder.
Very much is it a guilty pleasure show like Pretty Little Liars – nothing is to be taken too seriously – but it has got tense like How to Get Away with Murder, and music that puts you on the edge of your seat. The performances are great, the main storyline keeps you guessing. Though it got canceled, it's still worth watching. Not too many loose ends in the season 1/series finale.
11. American Horror Story (2011– )
TV-MA | 60 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller
An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show, a hotel, a possessed farmhouse, a cult, and the apocalypse.
This anthology series has a season for every kind of horror fan. It explores different kind of horrors, so obviously there are seasons that some people might not like but others might. In my opinion, the quality dropped big time in season 6 with some very unoriginal, cheesy storylines. My favourite seasons so far are season 2 (Asylum) and 3 (Coven).
12. Gravity Falls (2012–2016)
TV-Y7 | 23 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Twin siblings Dipper and Mabel Pines spend the summer at their uncle's tourist trap in the enigmatic town of Gravity Falls.
This beautifully animated show is to be watched by people in all kind of ages. It's got mystery, humor, intensity and love. After the lighthearted two seasons, there's a good chance you'll get teary eyes as you'll have to say goodbye to all the iconic, lovable characters.
13. Bates Motel (2013–2017)
TV-MA | 45 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery
A contemporary prequel to Psycho, giving a portrayal of how Norman Bates' psyche unravels through his teenage years, and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is.
Stunning performances in this eerie show. It has got some boring (or less interesting) scenes throughout the seasons, but nothing you can't get past. All-in-all, the show is very enjoyable and explores a world in which you don't want to live in, but you want to passively watch it unfold.
14. American Gothic (2016)
40 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
The members of a prominent Boston family suspect that one of their own is working with an infamous serial killer.
American Gothic was a pleasent surprise. I think it is okay that it got canceled, since I have no idea how it could continue anyway after the first season wraps up. You can surely still watch it. The mystery is pulling you in from the very start. The storylines are interesting, the acting is okay, the scores are great. It's most likely not going to blow your mind 24/7, but it has some really nice twists and turns. Also, it doesn't take too long to finish the season. I watched it in, like, two days, but I believe you can watch it in one if you've got no plans or anything.
15. Gilmore Girls (2000–2007)
TV-PG | 44 min | Comedy, Drama
A dramedy centering around the relationship between a thirtysomething single mother and her teen daughter living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
A pure delight to watch. If you're ever in a bad mood, you should watch Gilmore Girls. It's clever and fun at the very same time.
16. Stranger Things (2016– )
TV-14 | 51 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.
Frankly, I don't think Stranger Things is as "legendary" as everyone say to me it is, but that's just my opinion. And that is not to say that I don't think Stranger Things is amazing, because I do. It is amazing. It is a beautiful piece of art, an interesting piece of entertainment. That said, I wouldn't for one second call it original, as every character and every element in it has been seen so many times before in both movies and TV series and even video games. I believe that Stranger Things shows us that originality isn't necessarily necessary to create a wonderful story – it's just about piecing it right together, as they've done. But in the experience I had with the show, there's nothing more to it than that. Nothing legendary, and that's okay.
17. Game of Thrones (2011– )
TV-MA | 57 min | Action, Adventure, Drama
Nine noble families fight for control over the mythical lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for thousands of years.
Once you've first entered the world of Game of Thrones, you won't be able to leave it. It's got a lot of slow parts (especially in the first season), but they're all to a huge payoff that will leave your head spinning.
18. Channel Zero (2016–2018)
TV-14 | 44 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery
An anthology series based on popular Internet Creepypastas Candle Cove, The No-End House, Butcher's Block, and The Dream Door.
Channel Zero was probably one of the biggest surprises for me in 2016. It delivers a lot of creepiness, and I dare to say that I even enjoy this show as much as most of American Horror Story. I'm so excited to see where it will be going after the first season. It definitely has a lot of potential to become huge.
19. The Walking Dead (2010– )
TV-MA | 44 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller
Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to learn the world is in ruins, and must lead a group of survivors to stay alive.
There's not much to say about this iconic show. Really, you'll have to see the horrors for yourself, watch as beloved characters get into trouble that could (and in most cases will) bring them a fatal ending.
20. New Girl (2011–2018)
TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy
After a bad break-up, Jess, an offbeat young woman, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her - most of the time.
New Girl will leave you smirking and immediately waiting for the next episode. Much like Gilmore Girls is it good to watch on a bad day, where you need a few laughs and some no-brainer entertainment.
21. Shooter (2016– )
TV-14 | 60 min | Action, Drama
A conspiracy thriller that follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President.
Surprisingly well-made and addictive. The action sequences alone are worth watching the show for.
22. Westworld (2016– )
TV-MA | 62 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, explore a world in which every human appetite can be indulged without consequence.
I was kind of disappointed at how the show turned out when I first started watching, since it'd been so hyped up by ... everybody, and really it was a slow watch. But with jaw-dropping moments and excellent performances it just gets better and better as the story progresses, and the slow parts were worth going through.
23. Skam (2015–2017)
Not Rated | 30 min | Drama, Romance
The story of young teenagers and pupils on Hartvig Nissens upper secondary school in Oslo, and their troubles, scandals and everyday life. Each season is told from a different person's point of view.
Even though I dislike a lot in this Norwegian tv series, it's captivating, it's fun and there's some really great plot twist (especially in the first season). I really enjoy the insight in the Norwegian culture, too. What I dislike about it is its tendency to focus too much on the romances, as well as including A LOT of cliches without even trying to make them less cliche. It also brings up a lot of dark themes (teenage pregnancy, blackouts, rape, eating disorders) but doesn't do anything with 'em, instead gloss over them after they're introduced.
24. Het Huis Anubis (2006–2009)
12 min | Drama, Thriller
A group of boarding school students embark on the search for a treasure when one of them discovers a long hidden secret in the attic.
Het Huis Anubis was probably my first ever obsession with a television show. I remember trying (and mildly succeeding) to learn Dutch just to watch the later seasons on YouTube that hadn't aired yet in my country.
25. iCarly (2007–2012)
TV-G | 30 min | Comedy, Family, Romance
Carly hosts her own home-grown web show, iCarly, Carly and sidekick Sam's regular Web casts ultimately feature everything from comedy sketches and talent contests to interviews, recipes, and problem-solving.
iCarly was my childhood, and lord Jesus am I glad for that! By the time the final episode aired, I was balling my eyes out. Such a delight to watch and think back at.
26. Phineas and Ferb (2007–2015)
TV-G | 15 min | Animation, Action, Comedy
Phineas and Ferb invent, scheme, and stay one step ahead of their bratty sister. Meanwhile, their pet platypus plots against evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
Everbody know Phineas and Ferb, right? Right? It's a show every kid who needs a little lighthearted entertainment should watch.
27. Hannah Montana (2006–2011)
TV-G | 23 min | Comedy, Family, Music
Adventures of a teenage pop star who keeps her identity secret from even her closest friends by using a disguise on-stage.
From the quirky comments to the iconic songs to the lovable characters, Hannah Montana is a show I'll always remember.
28. The Fairly OddParents (2001–2017)
TV-Y7 | 30 min | Animation, Comedy, Family
After being tortured and humiliated by his babysitter, a ten year old boy is put under the care of two fairy godparents, who can grant him almost any wish, which leads to dire consequences.
A very creative children's show that explores a world I believe many would've enjoyed as kids – or even adults.
29. Ghost Whisperer (2005–2010)
TV-PG | 60 min | Drama, Fantasy
A newlywed with the ability to communicate with the earthbound spirits of the recently deceased overcomes skepticism and doubt to help send their important messages to the living and allow the dead to pass on to the other side.
Always watched this show with my older sister when I was younger. It's original and interesting and very, very well-done (IMO).
30. True Jackson, VP (2008–2011)
23 min | Comedy, Drama, Family
The adventures of True Jackson, a 15-year-old, who becomes the VP of her favorite fashion company, Mad Style. As she dives deeper into the world of fashion, True must balance the life of a ... See full summary »
One of my favorites from when I was child. Girly? Yes. But it's clever and playing with an industry you don't normally see much about.
31. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2003–2008)
