Naoki Urasawa's Monster

Dr. Kenzo Tenma - a genius neurosurgeon at Eisler Memorial Hospital but he disobeyed the Hospital Director's orders to perform brain surgery on Mayor Roedecker, but instead he operated on a newly-orphaned boy, Johan Liebert.

Johan Liebert - the main antagonist and titular "monster" of the series. A mysterious individual who causes many tragedies in his wake, and he could be described as a serial killer of sorts.

Nina Fortner / Anna Liebert -Johan's fraternal twin sister, the only physically unharmed survivor of the night her parents and brother were shot in what appeared to be a botched burglary. Nina is a sweet, kind, loving, hardworking and intelligent young woman. Nina has amnesia due to the psychological trauma of the attack. After she and Johan disappeared, she was adopted by the Fortner family from Heidelberg and became Nina Fortner. She is a law student at the University of Heidelberg

Eva Heinemann - Dr. Kenzo Tenma's jilted ex-fiancée and the daughter of his former boss, the late Udo Heinemann, who remains a hindrance to him during his time on the run from authorities while pursuing Johan Liebert.

Inspector Heinrich Lunge - an officer employed in the BKA, who obsessively believes that Dr. Kenzo Tenma is responsible for a series of murders and criminal events taking place in Germany, and doggedly pursues him to that end. He lives for his work, and pridefully states that no case he ever has taken on has ended without a resolution. He possesses extremely high analytical abilities, and has an excellent memory.

Wolfgang Grimmer - survivor of Kinderheim 511. He is trained as a spy, and travels around Germany posing a freelance journalist, but is in actuality trying to uncover more information about Kinderheim 511 and his past.

Roberto / Adolf Reinhart - a bodyguard, hitman and a henchman who also happens to be another admirer of Johan's, serving in the capacity of his most devoted and fervent follower.

Martin Reest - a hitman working "The Baby". Following the deaths of his mother and his former girlfriend, to which he felt partly guilty for, he grew an aversion for jobs that include dealing with women.

Franz Bonaparta - a major figure behind many important mysteries in the series. He is a psychologist, psychiatrist, neurosurgeon, and children's book author and illustrator. He has also worked with the Czech Secret Police where he conducted personality reprogramming experiments, and was in charge of the eugenics experiment together with Peter Čapek, another Czech that crossed the german border, which led to the creation of Johan and Anna Liebert.

Peter Čapek is the member of an organization trying to control Johan Liebert. He is also Franz Bonaparta's right-hand man and took part in the book readings at the Red Rose Mansion.

General Helmut Wolf - one of the few people who have watched Johan grow and take his place in the world without being murdered. He is one of the top four members of a right-wing organization attempting to entice Johan Liebert to become the country's new leader

The Baby - a short-statured but prominent figure in the neo-Nazi community, and was aligned with a mysterious organization which sought to make Johan Liebert the next Führer for their own ends and rise to power.

Rudy Gillen is a criminal psychologist who went to the same school as Dr. Kenzo Tenma. Because Johan had connections with one of his patients, Gillen became interested in the young man and joined forces with Dr. Reichwein to prove Tenma's innocence.

Fritz Verdemann - son of a former Czechoslovakian spy, and he's also one of the best lawyers in Germany with a particular preference for defendants who are falsely accused.

Hans Georg Schuwald - also known as the "Vampire of Bayern", is a prominent figure in the Bavarian business community, who is said to play and manipulate the German and, by extension, the European economy like a fiddle and bleed his competitors financially dry; this, alongside his other eccentricities, such as his blindness, seclusion and frequent late-night excursions, is what earns him his seemingly unsavory nickname.

Richard Braun is a private investigator hired by Hans Georg Schuwald to know the reason behind Edmund Fahren's sudden suicide.

Milan Kolasch was a dentist who lived in a Turkish Quarter of Frankfurt. He saved Tenma from being caught by the police, when Tenma was hit by a van, while escaping. Milan is one of the many characters in the series with the dark past.

Lotte Frank is a cultural anthropology major enrolled at the Munich University Friedrich Emmanuel Campus. She would become enmeshed in the proceedings concerning Johan Liebert after she befriended him and Karl Neuman, and later Johan's sister Nina Fortner.

Julius Reichwein is a counseling psychologist and a former lecturer at Düsseldorf University Medical School. There he taught Kenzo Tenma and Rudy Gillen and held them both in the highest regard because of their dedication to studies and superior performance in school.
