I consider Seven Samurai to be a western in Medieval Japan. More importantly we see the similarities between the samurai and the cowboy. Though separate countries, both follow a code of honor. It is also the structure of morality as well. It's lesson to be learn, about how to stand up for your fears and how to reform a person’s delayed bravery, so as a loosely based western it also becomes a lifelong lesson.
