Stars: Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, Allison Scagliotti

Votes: 57,330

It's nice to see a programme that doesn't take itself seriously. A good take on Ghostbusters, The Indiana Jones movies and even The Empire Strikes Back.

2. Fringe (2008–2013)

TV-14 | 46 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

An F.B.I. agent is forced to work with an institutionalized scientist and his son in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena.

Stars: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Jasika Nicole

Votes: 257,369

I was wondering when they would touch on this kind of phenomena and what a surprise. Took the whole of the 1st season to get to the point but was totally worth it. I love me a bit of Walter Bishop, great character and fantastically acted.

3. Torchwood (2006–2011)

The members of the Torchwood Institute, a secret organization founded by the British Crown, fight to protect the Earth from extraterrestrial and supernatural threats.

Stars: John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Kai Owen, Gareth David-Lloyd

Votes: 43,434

I struggle where to put this in the mix cause it's so cool. Good story lines, characters and plots to boot!

4. Star Trek: Voyager (1995–2001)

Votes: 77,259

I'm a trekkie so biased when saying it's just awesome.

A young woman, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.

Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head

Votes: 159,612

You gotta love Buffy and all the characters surrounding her. Okay, it got a bit stupid when the shark type person was introduced but at least it picked up again. One of the greatest ending in a tv series ever, (apart from Babylon5) but I would have liked to see more of a build up to the action, there was too much chat!

6. Alphas (2011–2012)

TV-14 | 44 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

Alphas is a science fiction drama focusing on a team that investigates people with supernatural abilities.

Stars: David Strathairn, Ryan Cartwright, Warren Christie, Azita Ghanizada

Votes: 29,734

This is the first series ever, in my opinion, where the 1st episodes of the 1st season was actually interesting. New programmes take such a while to get in to but I was hooked by the 2nd. Let's see how it pans out, only on the 8th ep.

7. Xena: Warrior Princess (1995–2001)

TV-PG | 45 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

Stars: Lucy Lawless, Renée O'Connor, Ted Raimi, Kevin Smith

Votes: 48,640

Jockster the mighty, he's incredible. Everybody loves him because he has a lovely grin. Jockster, Jockster the mighty!!! Love her travels and of course the underlying story, especially when both Xena and Gabrielle realised they're thespians! Excellent.

Stars: Courtney B. Vance, Joseph Fiennes, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton

Votes: 62,083

What a shame it got cancelled. It was another different take on the Sci-Fi genre which had so many plot twists and didn't tire. Thank the Gods it was based on a book so I can have closure.

9. Lost (2004–2010)

TV-14 | 5,445 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy

The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.

Stars: Jorge Garcia, Josh Holloway, Yunjin Kim, Evangeline Lilly

Votes: 594,672

It was only much of the 3rd series that sucked and if I remember some of the 5th, the rest rocked. Too much to say, very biblical, science fictional/fact, and even heart warming towards the end. It's a pity the creators didn't think to make more as obviously a lot was rushed in order to please the powers that be, if that didn't happen more people would have appreciated more. Questions were answered but of course more is still needed.

10. Kingdom Hospital (2004)

608 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

The quirky staff and patients of an ultramodern (albeit increasingly dilapidated) Maine hospital gradually become familiar with the supernatural occurrences that take place there, uncovering a dark secret in the process.

Stars: Jamie Harrold, Diane Ladd, Bruce Davison, Jack Coleman

Votes: 7,940

I remember loving this and looking forward to the next episode every week. What I also remember is trying to figure out what the Aardvark meant. Can't remember if I worked it out, may watch it again.

11. Knight Rider (1982–1986)

TV-PG | 46 min | Action, Crime, Drama

A lone crimefighter battles the forces of evil with the help of a virtually indestructible and artificially intelligent supercar.

Stars: David Hasselhoff, Edward Mulhare, Richard Basehart, Patricia McPherson

Votes: 37,560

All I remember is watching it religiously with my nieces and nephews and thoroughly enjoying it.

12. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (2004)

TV-MA | 24 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Horror

This parody series is an unearthed 80s horror/drama, complete with poor production values, awful dialogue and hilarious violence. The series is set in a Hospital in Romford, which is situated over the gates of Hell.

Stars: Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Matthew Holness, Alice Lowe

Votes: 20,130

Must watch this again, my kind of strange! Based on 80's oddity sci-fi with the strange sounds, quick transitions.

TV-MA | 598 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

Stars: Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Robert Buckley, Samantha Logan

Votes: 18,379

It's a pity that this got cancelled because unlike a lot it wasn't a lot of episodes to get through and the storyline really kept you wanting more. Pissed to not know what was going to ensue.

14. Max Headroom (1987–1988)

60 min | Comedy, Sci-Fi

In the near future, an intrepid investigative TV reporter does his job with the help of his colleagues and a computerized version of himself.

Stars: Matt Frewer, Amanda Pays, George Coe, Chris Young

Votes: 3,008

Watched an episode after years of curiosity and it wasn't at all what I remembered. In fact it was better. Obviously over 20yrs have past by but it still is a great idea that surrealistic view of the computer age. Will watch more episodes.

15. Paranormal Witness (2011– )

60 min | Documentary, Horror, Mystery

A true horror documentary series which brings to life the stories of people who have lived through paranormal experiences that defy explanation.

Stars: Gillian English, Frances Townend, Daniel Cannis, Colin Murphy

Votes: 2,794

I'll add this because although I know a lot of it is just pure made up, the way they film the scenes sometimes made me switch over. They did give it a real feel to it and for that well done. Films have been made to portray the real life events but they don't do it any justice. The series had a feel to it be it atmospheric, the films were just Hollywood.

16. Bedlam (2011–2013)

45 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery

Drama and supernatural chills in this series centered around a haunted insane asylum-turned-apartment building.

Stars: Hugo Speer, Charlotte Salt, Lacey Turner, Theo James

Votes: 2,460

Only started watching it so can't really rate on a pilot. But the 1st ep was ok, a bit weak and nothing new. Will continue to watch, if I remember.
