1. Hot Dog... The Movie (1984)

R | 96 min | Comedy, Romance, Sport

39 Metascore

Harkin Banks heads to skiing championships in California. A teen runaway tags along as he parties and competes with friends and foes.

Director: Peter Markle | Stars: David Naughton, Patrick Houser, Tracy Smith, John Patrick Reger

Votes: 3,164 | Gross: $20.31M

One of my favorite sex-romps of all time. I always noticed the movie when flipping through VideoDiscs at Sounds Great in Gig Harbor as a kid in the early 80's, but as it was rated "R" I was never allowed to watch it. I found it years later at Stadium Video and rented it for a ski video movie night at the Owl. Fun movie!

2. Top Secret! (1984)

PG | 90 min | Comedy, Music

68 Metascore

Parody of WWII spy movies in which an American rock and roll singer becomes involved in a Resistance plot to rescue a scientist imprisoned in East Germany.

Directors: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker | Stars: Val Kilmer, Lucy Gutteridge, Peter Cushing, Jeremy Kemp

Votes: 61,837 | Gross: $20.50M

Weird little slap-stick comedy from the makers of The Naked Gun. Val Kilmer is a pop star invading Cold War East Germany. Most memorable in my mind were the underwater bar fight & the scene shot in reverse. It was influential on Secret Sausage because the original movie poster featured the title in a style that I used as the basis for our logo.

The only Brothers Grimm fairy tale to feature a sausage as a main character.

4. 2010 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest (2010 TV Special)

60 min

Joey Chesnut captures his fourth consecutive Mustard Yellow Belt at Nathan's Famous in Coney Island, NY.

Stars: Joey Chestnut, Tim Janus, Paul Page

Votes: 5

I'm more of "2 & done" sort of guy, but I can respect the desire to eat many, many hot dogs.

5. Sudden Impact (1983)

R | 117 min | Action, Crime, Thriller

52 Metascore

A rape victim is exacting revenge on her aggressors in a small town outside San Francisco. "Dirty" Harry Callahan, on suspension for angering his superiors (again), is assigned to the case.

Director: Clint Eastwood | Stars: Clint Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Pat Hingle, Bradford Dillman

Votes: 41,867 | Gross: $67.64M

Clint Eastwood propagates what I call "The Vast Bi-Partisan Conspiracy Against Ketchup" in this installment of the Dirty Harry series. "Nobody, I mean nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog." He tells us. Don't be fooled people, ketchup goes on everything, I mean everything! If I was eating a bowl of ketchup, I would put ketchup on it.

6. The Big Lebowski (1998)

R | 117 min | Comedy, Crime, Sport

71 Metascore

Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire of the same name, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.

Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen | Stars: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi

Votes: 748,625 | Gross: $17.50M

I don't recall any hot dog related issues in the movie, but the general flow of the film and The Dude's general philosophy really embody the spirit of Secret Sausage

7. Hot Dog (2008)

R | 6 min | Animation, Short

Our plucky hero joins a fire company to save the world and gain the affection he so richly deserves. However, the results never turn out the way he plans.

Director: Bill Plympton | Stars: Mike Juarez, Carrie Keranen, Marc Diraison, Greg Sextro

Votes: 250

A Bill Plympton short cartoon about a dog who wants to join the fire department. I admire his spirit!
