The Little Mermaid (2020) Cast

Princess Ariel is the seventh and youngest daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena, rulers of the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. Ariel lived through much of her young life with a passionate - yet forbidden - admiration of the human world, and longed to someday experience life on the surface.

Ursula is the main antagonist. She is a villainous sea witch, with a half-woman, half-octopus physique. After being banished from Atlantica by her longstanding rival, King Triton, a scorned Ursula vowed to exact vengeance by harnessing the power of the king's trident and instilling herself as ruler of all the ocean.

To accomplish her goals, Ursula strikes deals with unfortunate merfolk that will supposedly make their dreams come true, but are covertly designed to advance Ursula's own ambitions. Princess Ariel, being one such merfolk, trades her voice to Ursula in exchange for human legs. Should Ariel fail to uphold her end of the deal by winning the love of Prince Eric, she will be bound to Ursula, and thusly used as a bargaining chip for Triton's crown.

Modeled after drag queens and theatrical personalities of the like, Ursula's fervent confidence and flamboyance have made her one of the most popular and influential of all the Disney Villains. She remains one of the franchise's primary members in the years following her debut.

Scuttie is an eccentric seagull and self-proclaimed expert on human stuff.

Flounder is Ariel's best friend, who regularly embarks on her adventures despite his cowardly demeanor. Though his name would imply otherwise, he is not a flounder, but a tropical fish.

Prince Eric is an 18-year-old, dashing prince of a seaside kingdom with a passion for sailing. During one of his voyages, Eric was rescued by a mysterious girl after nearly drowning during a storm. Grateful for her heroism, and enchanted by her beautiful voice, Eric becomes determined to find and marry his rescuer.

Vanessa is the name of the human persona that Ursula transformed into leading to the climax of the second act, creating conflict in the third act, "the end" of The Little Mermaid to stop Ariel from fulfilling the deal with Eric. She was the sly fiancée of Prince Eric for a day, an attractive woman who briefly becomes the center of the plot and became a fan favorite character. She was voiced by Jodi Benson and later in the movie, Pat Carrol (after her necklace broke).

King Triton (also known as the Sea King) is the ruler of Atlantica, an undersea kingdom inhabited by merpeople. As king, he wields the all-powerful trident, which grants him control over the seas. By his late wife Queen Athena, Triton is also father to seven daughters, the most notable of which is Ariel. Equal parts over-protective and well-meaning, Triton initially disapproves of Ariel's admiration for the human world on account of his misanthropia.

Sebastian is a red, Jamaican-accented crab that serves as King Triton's advisor and "distinguished" court composer. Despite holding an esteemed position, Sebastian is regularly tasked with watching over Triton's youngest daughter, Princess Ariel.

Arista is the fifth daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She wears her hair in a ponytail similar to Aquata's, although their bangs are different. Arista is 17 years old.

Attina is the firstborn daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. Her age causes her to feel a certain sense of responsibility for her sisters. She is described by her sisters in that film as being bossy, but ironically, she herself is often bossed around when her siblings outvote her. In the books, she is a bookworm and has a pet catfish named Fin-Fin. She is 21 years old.

Aquata is the fourth daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She is the most obsessive-compulsive of her sisters - when Arista borrowed her things, including her hairbrush, her "lucky" seashells, her pillow, and her stuffed seahorse, Mr. Fuzzyfinkle, she displayed frustration and some hostility, and an impulse to get her things back immediately. Aquata is 18 years old.

Alana is the second born princess of Atlantica depending on which source material is used. Her hair decoration is similar to a crown, and like Attina's and Triton's, has five points, although in a different style, representing that she is currently next in line to the throne after Attina. She appears to be the one who is most interested in beauty and health. She speaks of her looks often, but she is, by no means, selfish or vain. Alana is 20 years old in the prequel and her sisters says she's glamorous.

Adella is the third daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. In the prequel film, she is boy-crazy and wishes to dance with, and later kiss a boy. Adella is 19 years old.

Chef Louis is a chef who is infamous for trying to cook Sebastian.He apparently loves his job, possibly to an almost unhealthy extent.

Grimsby is Prince Eric's caretaker and confidant . Eric sometimes calls him "Grim" for short.

Andrina is the sixth daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena based on differing source materials. She appears to be the joker of her sisters, as seen by her many jokes in the prequel film. Andrina is 16 years old in the prequel.

Queen Athena was the wife of King Triton, and the mother of Ariel, Andrina, Arista, Aquata, Adella, Alana, and Attina. She was the Queen of Atlantica, and beloved by her family and subjects. She was noted for her singing talent and her love of music. She and Triton had been the best of friends ever since their childhood. Unfortunately, she died as a result of a run-in with a big pirate ship when Ariel was very young, fueling Triton's hatred of humans as a result. A statue of her dancing with him is present in his courtyard.

The Seahorse Herald is first seen at the royal concert, announcing the arrival of the court composer, Sebastian. Later, he is seen telling Sebastian that King Triton wants to speak to him about Ariel's lovestruck behavior, causing Sebastian to mistakenly think that he knows that Ariel is in love with a human, which in turn causes him to accidentally blurt out the secret and anger Triton enough that he destroys Ariel's secret grotto. He is last seen when Triton (having regreted at what he has done) has ordered a search for his daughter to apologize at what he had done and Sebastian, and asks him if any traces of them have been found. He answers no, and is ordered to keep looking for them, leaving no shells unturned and coral unexplored and no one sleeps until they return home safe. After he left, Triton then blames himself for his daughter's disappearance and regretting at what he had done and his bad behavior.

Flotsam and Jetsam speak in unison, finish each other's sentences, and entwine their bodies. The concept of their linkage is further heightened when their white eyes combine to form a single crystal ball, a portal through which Ursula can view the outside world. Ursula would remain in her lair, working from behind the scenes, and watching everything from the crystal ball.

Director

Carlotta is Prince Eric's sweet and kind maid. In the film, Carlotta is Prince Eric's maid and one of his most loyal friends. When Eric brings Ariel into his castle, she gives her a bath and has her dress washed for her. Then she dresses her up all nicely and takes her to the dining room where she will eat with Eric and Grimsby. When Ariel takes Grimsby's pipe and blows its contents in his face, both Eric and Carlotta laugh about it, and Carlotta tells Eric that that's the first time she's seen him smile in weeks. Grimsby then asks her what's for dinner to which she answers that he's going to love it because Chef Louis has been making them stuffed crab. When they hear a noise from the kitchen, Carlotta decides to go and see what Chef Louis is up to.
