- Highly memorable + amazing campaign. Everything about it is so good: the setting, the characters, the presentation alongside the protagonist’s unreliable narration, and the list goes on. MW2 blew my teenage mind with its campaign, and this one somehow did it even better.
- Excellent multiplayer. It had a lot of great weapons, great maps, and great killstreaks. Also wager matches! Only bad part was that there were also several crappy guns that rank among the worst in the series (ahem MAC11 ahem).
- Legendary zombies maps. Five was hilariously awesome just as a concept. Kino der Toten and some of the DLC maps were great too.
- Dead Ops Arcade was........? Yeah, I don't know what to say about it. But as a little weird easter egg, it was pretty fricking awesome. It's indicative that the devs put so much time and effort in the content of this game. I also respect the hell out of them for making the numbers actually mean something that can be decoded. Lore hunters on YouTube had a field day with that. You just don't get stuff like this in CoD games anymore.
- DirectorJason WestStarsLance HenriksenKeith DavidBarry PepperA massacre at a Russian airport leads to a war between Russia and the United States. Meanwhile, a Task Force is sent to find the perpetrators and bring the bloodshed to an end.8/10
- Great continuation of the MW story with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger ending. It struck a great balance between scripted action setpieces and regular gameplay. My teenage mind was blown.
- In my opinion, this is THE peak of CoD multiplayer. Sure, it may not have been anywhere close to the most balanced CoD but it had so many memorable weapons, maps, killstreaks, everything. The absolute insanity of it all made it so much fun.
- Spec Ops were...interesting I guess?
- DirectorDave AnthonyStarsSam WorthingtonMichael KeatonMichael RookerSet in 2025, new unmanned machines have been taken over by Nicaraguan terrorist, Raul Menendez, forcing the U.S.A. to take action.7/10
- Campaign is pretty good overall and is neatly tied into the story of BO1. Strike force missions were really cool, and the branching story pathways were awesome. I just wish Treyarch didn’t show off the penultimate mission to hype the game because that gave away the whole “hacking all the drones in the US” thing.
- Last CoD with truly great multiplayer. The weapon/perk/etc. balancing has never been better. Most of the guns are viable and the maps are great. Plus the futuristic setting introduced us to a ton of awesome killstreaks and equipment.
- The zombies map that shipped with this game was not that great and is widely considered the worst one. Some of the later maps were better though. However I was personally starting to get bored of zombies by this point.
- DirectorJason WestStarsBilly MurrayCraig FairbrassDavid SobolovRemastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007).7/10
- Campaign is pretty great. Includes some classic moments and characters. It’s a lot calmer and subtler than the later campaigns, with a great focus on actual gameplay over massive setpieces, which this game uses sparingly. However, the story itself is very cut-and-dry and doesn’t have a lot going for it in retrospect.
- Introduced the quintissential CoD multiplayer formula that has been going strong for over a decade now. However - along with WaW, it hasn’t aged too well, and it feels kind of dated to play nowadays (even in the remaster).
Disclaimer: I didn’t get the chance to play this one until it was remastered, and in the year 2018 at that. So I didn’t get the true CoD4 experience when it was in its prime. - StarsGary OldmanKiefer SutherlandCraig HoustonAn epic story of an American marine and a Soviet soldier in WWII.7/10
- Campaign does a great job of conveying the brutality and horror of WWII. Makes you feel like a Russian badass while simultaneously feeling pretty weird about it.
- Multiplayer brought the revolutionary MW1 style to the time period. Had some good maps that have sadly been nearly forgotten. The gameplay hasn’t aged very well, though.
- Zombies was brand new and awesome in this game. So many rounds were spent on Der Reise...
- DirectorsMichael CondreyGlen A. SchofieldStarsBilly MurrayBruce GreenwoodIdris ElbaThe Russian Federation continues its invasion of the U.S., as well as Europe, including England, France and Germany.6/10
- Campaign was decent. However - aside from a few memorable moments, it was overall a relatively unsatisfyingly abrupt conclusion to the greatness of the first 2 MW campaigns.
- Multiplayer was nearly a total copy/paste of MW2’s, but with slightly less memorable weapons/maps. It was still fun though, and way more balanced.
- Spec Ops were alright. Pretty fun, but mostly forgettable. Survival mode was dope though.
- StarsBrian BloomClaudia ChristianClaudia BlackInfinite Warfare returns to the roots of the franchise where large-scale war and cinematic, immersive military storytelling take center stage.6/10
- Campaign is well-acted and well-written (mostly), and includes awesome characters and space battles. Honestly I really liked it overall, but I still have some gripes, such as the cliche villains and the side missions not living up to their full potential.
- Multiplayer is mostly fun, with a lot of cool weapons, equipment, and combat rigs but suffers from some cheap bullshit. By this point, most players were fed up with the advanced movement systems (including me). Also, the map design is awful because of how restrictive it is, even with the advanced movement. It was like the devs didn't want you to be free or creative with your movement.
- Zombies is back AGAIN. I still don't think this iteration was particularly great but the Spaceland map itself was pretty cool. At least the level designers put effort in a lot of the interactive details to it.
- StarsDavid AgranovDamon Victor AllenJeff BergmanSet during the early 80s of the Cold War, the campaign follows CIA operative Russel Adler as he pursues an alleged Soviet spy, whose goal is to subvert the United States and tilt the balance of power towards the Soviet Union.6/10
- StarsBarry SloaneAsher SarrafChad Michael CollinsCaptain Price and the SAS partner with the CIA and the Urzikstani Liberation Force to retrieve stolen chemical weapons. The fight takes you from London to the Middle East and beyond, as this joint task force battles to stop a global war.6/10
- The overall gameplay feel of this title is pretty great, with a move toward more realistic movement and gunplay. It's the most significant change that a CoD game has seen since the original MW, and that deserves credit.
- Campaign is very hit or miss. It has a lot of the same cons that other CoD campaigns have such as introducing gameplay mechanics that are only present for a brief moment and never return. But it also has some fantastic moments, such as the home raids and the "Going Dark" mission. Those are legitimately the best scenes in a CoD campaign we have seen in forever. And the overhaul of the original MW story is proving to be very interesting.
- Multiplayer is...ok I guess. The map design, while it usually looks great thanks to the graphics, has the unfortunate side effect of being a total camp-fest. The low TTK also isn't very fun in my opinion. Gunfight is pretty great though.
- We don't talk about this game's Special Ops.
- Guess I should mention Warzone here. Not too much to say. It's very popular and I'm sure there's a good reason for that. I haven't experienced it enough for myself to give my own opinion.
- DirectorsMo DavoudianJason BlundellStarsChris Jai AlexAntonio AlvarezIke AmadiCall of Duty: Black Ops 4 is the first entry in the first-person shooter series to contain only a multiplayer mode, and a new battle royale mode called Blackout.6/10
- Blackout was pretty damn fun at the start. I never cared for battle royale but this mode had me pretty much hooked. I would have obviously preferred we had this as well as a campaign though. Also, several months later, we got Apex Legends, which made Blackout obsolete for me. Once you find a battle royale you really like, you don’t have much reason to switch to another one.
- From a pure gameplay-oriented perspective, it has the best CoD multiplayer since BO2. The increased health is a great change in my opinion. Removing the jump boosters was a good idea. And I actually like the specialist equipment/weapons. Ultimately though it is still the same old CoD at heart.
- At first, Zombies captured more of my interest than it did with recent games. Probably because of the different modes, 3 maps included with the standard version of the game, and a levelling system. But at its core, it’s still the same old CoD zombies experience. And after a short while of play, I grew bored with it. It's just not for me.
- This game started as a 7/10 but as the months went on, I had to drop it. The outrageous microtransactions (even for this series), the lack of a real campaign, the lower amount of actual content overall, and the fact that the game isn’t good enough to justify all of that forced me to drop the score.
- DirectorJason BlundellStarsOmid AbtahiOrion AcabaAbdul AlviThe third installment of the Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise brings the player to a dark twisted future with a built-up war storyline.5/10
- Campaign has a few great aspects that hearken back to BO1’s campaign (story concept of the main character/player not knowing what’s really going on, hidden clues throughout), but also has several terrible aspects (voice acting, story makes no sense unless you look it up or read the obscure prequel comic).
- Multiplayer is mediocre. It suffers from lack of map quality and lack of memorable weapons. But it did also introduce the specialists, which was a neat addition to the gameplay and “lore” of the multiplayer. The advanced movement was meh at the time, and people began to see it as nothing more than a cheap gimmick, which it mostly was. The map design was nothing special either.
- Zombies is entirely focused on the “easter eggs” and no longer on the classic zombies experience. But the different enemies are kinda cool.
- DirectorsMichael CondreyGlen A. SchofieldKeith AremStarsKevin SpaceyAdetokumboh M'CormackAngela GotsSet in the year 2054, private military corporation ATLAS has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild.4/10
- Campaign was pretty boring with nothing too unique to the series besides the distant futuristic setting (which was unique at the time).
- Multiplayer was kinda fun, but a lot of the weapons and maps were either bland or bad. Also let’s not forget this game introduced the dreaded exo suit/jetpacking/jump boosting that would go on to be highly controversial. Not to mention the introduction of supply drop loot boxes, although in this one I think you could only get them from gameplay. However, it didn't take long before they got monetized in future titles. Despite all that, I still had some dumb fun with this multiplayer every now and then.
- Exo-zombies was totally forgettable.
- DirectorsJake RowellSylvain DoreauStarsBrandon RouthBrian BloomJeffrey PierceTen years after a terrible attack that wipes out part of the population, two brothers must rebel against a federation controlled by a psychotic soldier who once was part of the rebellion called "The Ghosts".3/10
- Campaign would have worked better if it was intended to be a parody of a Modern Warfare campaign, because that’s pretty much what it feels like. You need to give credit to the environmental artists though, because the settings are wonderfully realized from a visual standpoint.
- Multiplayer is among the worst in the series with terrible, oversized maps and uninteresting guns (excluding the Honey Badger).
- Extinction was a neat concept that had potential. But it was still forgettable.
- DirectorsMichael CondreyGlen A. SchofieldDennis AdamsStarsJosh DuhamelJonathan TuckerJeffrey PierceYou play various American servicemen and their allies in World War II as the Western Allies fight their way through Europe during and after the invasion of Normandy.2/10
- Campaign is incredibly cliche, tone deaf, anticlimactic, lacking in emotional connection, dumb, and boring. Doesn’t even hold a candle to World at War. Other CoD campaigns have these same criticisms, but this was supposed to be the “return to what made CoD great” and it failed in every way.
- Multiplayer is straight trash. Awful gunplay, awful map design, awful sound design.
- Zombies is at its worst incarnation yet. Everything about it is watered down.
