1. Ice Age (2002)

PG | 81 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

61 Metascore

The story revolves around sub-zero heroes: a woolly mammoth, a saber-toothed tiger, a sloth and a prehistoric combination of a squirrel and rat, known as Scrat.

Directors: Chris Wedge, Carlos Saldanha | Stars: Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Goran Visnjic

Votes: 519,465 | Gross: $176.39M

The film that kick-started Blue Sky Studios and is still regarded as one of the studio's best films. This film offers a mixture of comedy, adventure, heart, and some unexpected twists and turns. Making this a worthy film in the animated cinematic universe. Ice Age began Blue Sky's first franchise that is still going on today, and has done wonders for the company, but we'll get to those later. This film, like Toy Story and Antz which represented their companies well, Ice Age is another fabulous beginning to another big animated film giant. The film made over 380 million in the box office and allowed Blue Sky to continue their journey into the glorious world of animated films.

2. Robots (2005)

PG | 91 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

64 Metascore

In a robot world, a young idealistic inventor travels to the big city to join his inspiration's company, only to find himself opposing its sinister new management.

Directors: Chris Wedge, Carlos Saldanha | Stars: Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Mel Brooks, Robin Williams

Votes: 162,046 | Gross: $128.20M

A film by Blue Sky that most people seem to forget. This was of course before Wall-E and a much colorful film about robots. In terms of company history this is currently Blue Sky's lowest grossing film in the box office, making just over 260 million dollars. While the film didn't impress in the box office or with critics, and seems to be forgotten by many people, this film offers several clever moments. But a weak film nonetheless. Not a bad film, or a good film, just OK.

3. Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)

PG | 91 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

59 Metascore

Manny, Sid and Diego discover that the ice age is coming to an end, and join everybody for a journey to higher ground. On the trip, they discover that Manny is not in fact the last of the woolly mammoths.

Director: Carlos Saldanha | Stars: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Seann William Scott

Votes: 296,738 | Gross: $195.33M

This is when Blue Sky tried to milk as much money as they could out of their popular film Ice Age. They just seemed to get worse and worse as the films went on. Despite the critical failure, this did much better then their last two films in the box office. Making more then the last two combined for a total of over 660 million dollars. So I can't blame Blue Sky. If it makes money, then why stop.

4. Horton Hears a Who! (2008)

G | 86 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

71 Metascore

Horton the Elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.

Directors: Jimmy Hayward, Steve Martino | Stars: Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett

Votes: 150,323 | Gross: $154.53M

One thing that Blue Sky has proven is they can make good films out of classic tales like Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. Why they didn't have them make Cat in the Hat and Grinch remains a mystery. Because Blue Sky has the talent to represent these stories well. But this film was the other way around compared to Ice Age 2. With a huge drop-off in the box office totals. Making 297 million in the box office. But the critics liked it for its cartoony but self-controlled deliverance.

5. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)

PG | 94 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

50 Metascore

When Sid's attempt to adopt three dinosaur eggs gets him abducted by their real mother to an underground lost world, his friends attempt to rescue him.

Directors: Carlos Saldanha, Michael Thurmeier | Stars: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Eunice Cho

Votes: 264,343 | Gross: $196.57M

This is a pattern for Blue Sky. They release an Ice Age film, and in the middle of them they release an original film. That's the way its been so far. And already with only Blue Sky's fifth film they release the third film of the Ice Age franchise. At this point Manny, Sid, and Diego have dried out. They were great characters in the first film, but now they're just stale and cheesy and over-the-top. Like a stale Cheeto. But Scrat is still a popular character and now Blue Sky will use him until he too is the thing of the past. There is such a thing as too much. Blue Sky has shown with the Ice Age film that a little too much can be a bad thing. Even though this made an abysmal amount of money, making over 885 million. This still is not what Blue Sky is capable of in terms of writing and character.

6. Rio (2011)

G | 96 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

63 Metascore

When Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, meets the fiercely independent Jewel, he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams.

Director: Carlos Saldanha | Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Karen Disher

Votes: 248,714 | Gross: $143.62M

Ok, good seems like Blue Sky is moving on. For a minute there I thought Ice Age gave them a cold. But now we go to a more warm film with Rio. How is it? Well its their best film since Horton. It also made enough to consider a sequel. But Rio has a movie is good with many wonderful characters like Blue and Jewel. But for the rest it feels redundant. Not all the characters make an impact, and some are too over-the-top and unrealistically humorous. But as a kid's film it's pretty enjoyable. For adults, I only recommend it to adults who are still a kid at heart. Anyone else will turn away. The film made 485 million in the box office.

7. Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)

PG | 88 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

49 Metascore

Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.

Directors: Steve Martino, Michael Thurmeier | Stars: Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Aziz Ansari

Votes: 225,054 | Gross: $161.32M

WHAT!!!! Why didn't they just stop at three. Blue Sky has a cohesive franchise. Not a great one, but a respectable one. But now, it's a franchise everyone which would just go away. I'm actually annoyed by this that these guys can't let it go and move on. Take Elsa's advise, LET IT GO!!! I'm fine with a franchise that plans to have 3 films like How to Train Your Dragon. Heck Kung Fu Panda is planning to have 6 films. But I'm ok with it because they are doing it for story purposes. This is just doing it to milk more money out of our pockets. I hope to send a message to stop giving money-milking films the money they don't deserve. Films like How to Train Your Dragon deserves it, seriously those films are great. But this, no! In the box office this made, again, too much for it making 877 million!!! Why!?!?!

8. Epic (2013)

PG | 102 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

52 Metascore

A teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place. She bands together with a ragtag group of characters to save their world--and ours.

Director: Chris Wedge | Stars: Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Beyoncé, Colin Farrell

Votes: 109,929 | Gross: $107.52M

Its a pretty ballsy move to call your film "EPIC." Well Blue Sky...let us be the judge of that. Based on their last films, epic seems unlikely. There's not much to say about this film. I'm just waiting for Blue Sky to make a great film, which they haven't really done since Ice Age. And this ballsy titled movie isn't anywhere near great. But good for kids, which is it's target audience. But talk about a drop-off in the box office. This made a little more then Robots, making 268 million. Ouch! Maybe they should make more movies besides a bad Ice Age movie after bad Ice Age film.

9. Rio 2 (2014)

G | 101 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

49 Metascore

It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel, and their three kids after they're hurtled from Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel and meets his father-in-law.

Director: Carlos Saldanha | Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Jemaine Clement, Andy Garcia

Votes: 100,625 | Gross: $131.54M

Blue Sky isn't DreamWorks. They are total opposites. Every sequel made by Blue Sky has not been good. Where as DreamWorks proves they can make good to great sequels that aren't repetitive (with the exception of Shrek the Third). I know I keep criticizing them but I think they have more potential then this. Rio 2 is a mess that is just as bad if not worse then Shrek the Third, in my opinion. This made exactly 500 million in the box office. Hopefully Blue Sky can bounce back in the next film.

10. The Peanuts Movie (2015)

G | 88 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

67 Metascore

Snoopy embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their archnemesis, while his best pal Charlie Brown begins his own epic quest back home to win the love of his life.

Director: Steve Martino | Stars: Noah Schnapp, Bill Melendez, Hadley Belle Miller, Francesca Capaldi

Votes: 49,843 | Gross: $130.18M

YAY!!!!! They did it! This is what I'm talking about. Finally I can say something positive. This is Blue Sky's best film ever, even better then Ice Age. And I will say what I said in the Horton review. Blue Sky can make good adaptations from classic shows or books. This is based off the famed Peanuts show with Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Lucy van Pelt. But unfortunately people didn't go to see this as much as they should have. This is Blue Sky worst performing film in the box office, making only 108 million dollars. A disappointment in the box office, good in every other aspect. Other then Inside Out, this is the best animated film of the year and should be nominated for best animated film at the Academy Awards. It's that good, in fact...great!

11. Ice Age: Collision Course (2016)

PG | 94 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

34 Metascore

When Scrat's acorn sends an asteroid to Earth, the Herd must find a way to stop the asteroid from hitting Earth with the help of a returning friend.

Directors: Michael Thurmeier, Galen T. Chu | Stars: Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Chris Wedge

Votes: 74,934 | Gross: $64.06M

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! Are you *bleep* kidding me????!!!!!! Blue Sky, for the love God, stop making these films! I've never seen a franchise become so unlikeable that pretty much everyone wants it to stop. I do, you do, everyone does. Please don't see this film if you want to stop this franchise. Oh, and to make matters worse, this is the worst film by Blue Sky thus far. They took 3 steps forward with The Peanuts Movie but then immediately took 200 steps back. This is the worst way to follow up Peanuts, a lame, irritating, unfunny "comedy" about characters we don't give a hoot about anymore. I am sick of this franchise! GO AWAY!!!!

12. Ferdinand (2017)

PG | 108 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

58 Metascore

After Ferdinand, a bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure.

Director: Carlos Saldanha | Stars: John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Cannavale, Jack Gore

Votes: 63,680 | Gross: $84.41M

Well, this certainly isn’t Ice Age 6 or anything, thank goodness. This film is better to me with that notion. Something fresh and new, we’ll sort of. This is still your typical animated film of a misunderstood character who must prove self worth. Seen that time and time again. So while this isn’t anything special it’s a harmless 90 minutes.
