I have tried to exclude coproductions generally, unless I feel that the film is clearly, primarily French; but it's always tricky with international coproductions, and some films such as De Palma's Femme Fatale would not be considered "French" by everybody. C'est la vie.
The New Wave and it's influences (particularly surrealism and crime/noir), offshoots and descendants remains the central part of my love for French cinema, but it's far from everything. I suppose I have little tolerance for most of the fluffier farces and comedies, particularly those of the last 30-40 years, and I'm not a fan of Luc Besson or those that have imitated or followed him, but there's not much else in this great cinema that I avoid on principal.
