He was an Italian film director, film producer and screenwriter. He also used the pseudonyms Ferdy Baldwin, Ted Kaplan and Sam Livingstone.
Baldi directed nearly 40 films during his career. He began his career directing films in the sword and sandal genre. He also directed many Spaghetti Westerns, including Blindman.
He co-directed David and Goliath which starred Orson Welles. Welles also appeared in Baldi's movie The Tartars. During this same time period Baldi was an associate producer on Mario Bava's movie The Whip and the Body.
Baldi appeared as himself in the documentary The Spaghetti West.
