Editors' Picks: Halloween Special10 of 10
The Reflecting Skin (1990)
Definitely the first movie I watch while ramping up to Halloween each year. The Reflecting Skin, a slow burn, psychological horror movie that looks like an Andrew Wyeth painting come to life, is set in small town USA in the 1950s.
It features a woman who may or may not be a vampire, a crew of greaser thugs who are definitely child abductors, some of the worst parenting in cinematic history, and a young Viggo Mortensen as a traumatized war vet whose joyless homecoming set the story in motion. You'll want to reach into the screen and try to save Seth Dove (Jeremy Cooper) from his environment. — Arno
