My Cast for The Last of Us Movie/TV Series

by diego_cuevs21 | created - 27 Feb 2018 | updated - 6 months ago | Public

I am in love with The Last of Us. To me it is easily one of the best video games of all time. Incredible story telling etc. However I love casting and I have some ideas for the main cast. Even who I think who should direct and write the movie.

But it sucks that two woman who I believe would be perfect for Ellie are unfortunately just got to old to play Ellie. Or maybe they will go for it. Both Ellen Page and Chole Grace- Moretz just got a little to old and have better choices that will get in the way of choosing this role. Even the two big actresses that everyone says should play Ellie I just don't agree with. Millie Bobby Brown and I'm sorry but Dafne Keen well maybe. But Millie Bobby Brown I just can't see her as Ellie.

And no unknown casting for either Joel or Ellie. I've read some people want an unknown actress for Ellie. Hell no. This is a video game being adapted into a movie. Along with this is one of the most popular video games ever. Why damper it by casting some unknown tv level actress who is young that will be cursing for the sake of cursing. And no on Josh Brolin. I even have a problem with being cast as Cable.

Of course there are many other characters that can be cast but there are so minor that they don't need to cast a big name in those roles.

Holy shit holy shit HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! HBO announced that they are teaming up with not only the producer from Chernobyl but also Neil himself to produce a tv show following Joel and Ellie. Which changes everything.

1. Fede Alvarez

Director | Don't Breathe

Fede Alvarez was born on February 9, 1978 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He is a director and writer, known for Don't Breathe (2016), Evil Dead (2013) and The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018).

I would love to see Fede Alvarez direct and maybe even write the script. I think he has an amazing talent being able to tell one set locations filled with tense and scary moments. So if you give him this video game he can be able to beyond his depth to give some get credit to the video game movie adaptions. Which I am giving him the benefit of the doubt he can handle the big special effects post apocalyptic world while also staying grounded in close locations with practical effects. And we all know he can handle great female characters. Just sucks that Jane Levy is a little old to play Ellie. But there are so many scenes from the video game that are place in small tense locations that I think Fede would be great at.

2. Francis Lawrence

Director | The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Francis Lawrence was born on March 26, 1971 in Vienna, Austria. He is a director and producer, known for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), I Am Legend (2007) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015).

Wait didn't he already do the first The Last of Us. I am Legend. And did three other post apocalyptic films with the Huger Games franchise. Which to me wouldn't be a problem because he can handle the big scope of the open world of TLOU, while also having those intimate moments between Joel and Ellie. I honestly wouldn't mind this choice because I really like this decision but I can see some people not like this decision.

3. Alfonso Cuarón

Writer | Gravity

Alfonso Cuarón Orozco was born on November 28th in Mexico City, Mexico. From an early age, he yearned to be either a film director or an astronaut. However, he did not want to enter the army, so he settled for directing. He didn't receive his first camera until his twelfth birthday, and then ...

Yeah yeah I'm biased. Because I would love to see a Mexican filmmaker get this opportunity and again he kinda made his post apocalyptic film with Children of Men. But can you imagine how awesome this would be if he directed it. And he needs to hurry up already make another damn film.

4. Coralie Fargeat

Director | Revenge

Coralie Fargeat is a director and writer, known for Revenge (2017), Reality+ (2014) and Le télégramme (2003).

I am still riding off the great work she has done off of Revenge. I seriously have no idea what it is about that film that makes me think that this woman is capable in taking a huge blockbuster like this. Amazing work with so much talent that her camera work editing style and even the use of the over the top violence is something I find incredibly satisfying it is awesome. Considering that this will be her next follow up film if something else happens I really want her to get this job. Which what she did with Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz's character Jen in that film she would have no problem taking Joel to that dark place as well. Which will be brutal as all hell.

5. Julia Ducournau

Director | Grave

Julia Ducournau is a French film director and screenwriter. She attended film school at La Fémis in Paris, where she studied screenwriting. In 2011, her short film JUNIOR won the Petit Rail d'Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Her first feature, the horror movie RAW, won the coveted FIPRESCI ...

Raw is one of the most graphically satisfying movies I saw in 2017. I love it. And with just that one film I know she would be a good choice for TLOU. Again she can handle the female characters with respect. With at the same time this will be one graphic film. I would love to see just how gory she will make this movie while at the same time add some some substance with the characters. She would be a great choice.

6. Jennifer Kent

Director | The Babadook

Jennifer Kent was born in 1969 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She is an actress and director, known for The Babadook (2014), The Nightingale (2018) and Monster (2005).

Just take The Babadook and switch the gender. This could be the same movie. And this woman knows how to handle both terror and I think she can really bring out the emotion in the beginning which who have played TLOU knows just how heart wrenching that beginning is. I would to her get this chance.

7. Ana Lily Amirpour

Director | A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

Ana Lily Amirpour was born on July 25, 1976 in Margate, Kent, England. She is a director and writer, known for A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014), The Bad Batch (2016) and A Little Suicide (2012).

I am the biggest fan of this woman. I love her. A Girl Walks Alone at Night it one of the best horror films I have ever seen. But there is a coldness to her that she is distant with her characters which I think she is up to the challenge to have a more subtle story and more of a character study. Not only that but this film will look stunning.

8. Matthias Schoenaerts

Actor | De rouille et d'os

Matthias Schoenaerts was born on December 8, 1977 in Antwerp, Belgium. His mother, Dominique Wiche, was a costume designer, translator and French teacher, and his father was actor Julien Schoenaerts. He made his film debut at the age of 13, alongside his father in the Belgian film Daens (1992), ...

But my first and only choice is Matthias Schoenaerts. This guy is an incredible actor with so much talent that I first discover him with 2011 Bullhead. And he not disappoint me yet. Rust and Bone, The Drop, A Bigger Splash and so on and so on. Plus he can totally pull off an American accent. He is tough and is more than capable to pull off all the damage that Joel carries.

9. Hugh Jackman

Actor | Les Misérables

Hugh Michael Jackman is an Australian actor, singer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer and producer. Jackman has won international recognition for his roles in major films, notably as superhero, period, and romance characters. He is best known for his long-running role as Wolverine in the X-Men film ...

Joel. Obvious choice but it is obvious in just how good of an actor he is. And spoiler he is not busy any more. He would be a great choice and even Logan had elements of TLOU. So it would be good to see Hugh has Joel.

10. Logan Marshall-Green

Actor | The Invitation

Logan is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. His parents are both drama teachers. His mother, Lowry Marshall, is the artistic director of Brown University's repertory theatre department.

Logan graduated with a Master's in Fine Arts from New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch ...

Joel- He is an awesome actor and he has proven himself that he can carry a movie in Upgrade. Because for a while I thought he was just going to be a supporting actor but he can be Joel. I can feel like he can nail it as Joel.

11. Joel Edgerton

Actor | The Gift

Joel Edgerton was born on June 23, 1974 in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia, to Marianne (van Dort) and Michael Edgerton, who is a solicitor and property developer. His brother is filmmaker Nash Edgerton. His mother is a Dutch immigrant. Joel went to Hills Grammar School in the Western Suburbs...

Should Joel play Joel. That would be something. But I am such a fan of him that it would be great to see him cast.

12. Andrew Lincoln

Actor | The Walking Dead

Andrew Lincoln is a British actor. Lincoln spent his early childhood in Hull, Yorkshire before his family relocated to Bath, Somerset when he was age 10. He was educated at Beechen Cliff School in Bath, and then the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His father is a civil engineer...

Rick playing Joel really. I saw some people who want Negan to play Joel but to me it is about time someone pays some respect to Andrew Lincoln seriously. He is one of the greatest tv actors we have and he never tries to take the spotlight away from his other co stars. plus he pulls off a great beard and he can hold his own in a fight. And no should ever mess with his kid. Carl. Carl! Carrrrrrrrrrrrrlllllllllllllll!

13. Ellen Page

Actress | Juno

Ellen Grace Philpotts-Page was born on February 21, 1987, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Martha Philpotts, a teacher, and Dennis Page, a graphic designer. Page wanted to start acting at an early age and attended the Neptune Theater School. She began her career at the age of 10 on the award-winning ...

Okay maybe just maybe Screen Gems or who ever is distributing this film will hopefully see Ellen Page as the great actress she is. But she has done motion capture for another video game that I think if they do make a film version of Beyond Two Souls then yes get her. And cast or keep her as Kitty Pride. Just keep Ellen Page working she is a great actress.

14. Oona Laurence

Actress | The Beguiled

Oona Laurence (born August 1, 2002) is an American actress who is best known for originating the role of Matilda Wormwood in Matilda on Broadway alongside Bailey Ryon, Milly Shapiro, and Sophia Gennusa. She is a New York City-based child actress with credits in film, theatre, and television.

After ...

Ellie- Now this is my first choice. She looks like Ellie and I think she is capable in handling the more intense scenes and now that she have gotten older since her breakout role in Southpaw she has gotten really better has an actress. She even has comedy chops I do think she is funny.

15. Thomasin McKenzie

Actress | Leave No Trace

She has also modelled in print ads for companies such as Rubbermaid, Jones Apparel Group, The Walt Disney Company, Mattel, Target Corporation...

I can't believe this is the love child of R Pats and K Stewart. But she is a total wild card for me. To me tho there is a quite sense to her that is the problem which is why I would love to see Brooklynn Prince or either Oona Laurence because they are out there with their words. But if Mackenzie can get there I think she would be really fantastic as Ellie.

17. Dafne Keen

Actress | Logan

Dafne Keen Fernández is a British and Spanish actress who played the role of Ana "Ani" Cruz Oliver in the television series The Refugees, and the mutant Laura Kinney / X-23 in the 2017 film Logan.

She is the daughter of British actor Will Keen, and Spanish actress, theatre director and writer María ...

Maybe maybe. If she was cast I wouldn't be upset but I just do see it. And let's get one thing straight she is not Mexican she is European Spanish. Which again I have a biased against that sh!t when they cast but what do I know. However lets not pussy foot around it she is a really good actress and she can handle the action scenes. But whatever.

18. Brooklynn Prince

Actress | The Florida Project

Brooklynn Prince started acting since she was the age of two and knew she loved it. She ganged popularity from her iconic, adorable role as Moonee in the beloved The Florida project. She is also well known for her roles as the inspiring Hilde Lisko in the new AppleTV+ show Home Before Dark, and ...

Give her a couple years and she can deliver a powerhouse performance. First her breakout role in The Florida Project is incredible and I can see her definitely playing Ellie. Just give her a couple years to play Ellie.

19. Carey Mulligan

Actress | Never Let Me Go

Carey Hannah Mulligan is a British actress. She was born May 28, 1985, in Westminster, London, England, to Nano (Booth), a university lecturer, and Stephen Mulligan, a hotel manager. Her mother is from Llandeilo, Wales, and Carey also has Irish and English ancestry.

Her first major appearance was ...

Carey Mulligan really. To play a character who again spoiler who may in this version may not be in it a whole lot. Which does suck because I would rather see her play a lead role in her own action movie but she would be a great Tess.

20. Gemma Arterton

Actress | Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Gemma Christina Arterton was born in Gravesend, Kent, England, where she was raised. She is the daughter of Sally-Anne (Heap), a cleaner, and Barry J. Arterton, a welder. Her mother's cousin is singer-songwriter Eric Goulden.

Her parents divorced when she was age five, and Gemma subsequently lived ...

I have a huge problem. I find Gemma one of the most beautiful woman on the planet. Not just in the movie industry but ever. Ever. But she doesn't just have looks she is funny, heart wrenching in a lot of films, and even scared of her in a couple of films. So I just want to see Gemma in every film ever. But I can see her as Tess. She is a great actress and be able to pull off as an equal to her male counterpart, Joel.

21. Carrie-Anne Moss

Actress | The Matrix

Carrie-Anne Moss was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. At age 20, after studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she moved to Europe to pursue a career in modeling. While in Spain she was cast in a regular role in the TV show Dark Justice which was produced in Barcelona for its first ...

Trinity as Tess could be interesting. Again another actress who have had success in the past and she is killing it on Jessica Jones right now. But this is not a big role but if they get someone like Carrie-Anne Moss to give more heart to Tess in her last moments. Also there is a darkness to her which if they expand the beginning I can definitely see her play this character.

22. Noomi Rapace

Actress | Män som hatar kvinnor

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace was born in Hudiksvall, Gävleborgs län, Sweden to Swedish actress Nina Norén and Spanish Flamenco singer Rogelio Durán. Her parents did not stay together, and when she was five she moved to Iceland with her mother and stepfather, where she lived for three years. When ...

Top 5 best actresses we have living today. I don't care what anyone says. And Top 5 most beautiful women ever. O yeah You better wait to kill Tess later in the film if you get Noomi Rapace. I am in love with her acting, personality, and beauty. This woman is incredible in every sense of the world. Bold brilliant and never a dull moment when she is on screen.

23. Antje Traue

Actress | Man of Steel

With a strong body of work in her native Germany, Antje broke out into the international marketplace in Zack Snyder's Superman retelling, "Man of Steel" as the villainess, "Faora". Other credits include Renny Harlin's "5 Days of August", Warner Brothers' "The Seventh Son", Simon Curtis's "The Woman...

What happened to her? This woman was so damn good in Man of Steel She is incredible bad ass female character that is both believable and downright relentless. Damn I love to see her cast as Tess.

24. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Actor | Game of Thrones

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (born 27 July 1970) is a Danish actor, producer and screenwriter. He graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre in Copenhagen in 1993. Coster-Waldau's breakthrough performance in Denmark was his role in the film Nightwatch (1994). Since then he has appeared in ...

Jaime Lannister playing Tommy. Which I can see if they cast Hugh Jackman they would work perfect together. This dude always brings his A game to every film and every week. And even tho GOT is on TV that doesn't mean they are TV talent. He would be a great Tommy.

25. Luke Evans

Actor | Dracula Untold

Luke George Evans was born in Pontypool, Wales, and grew up in Aberbargoed, in the south of Wales. He is the son of Yvonne (Lewis) and David Evans. He moved to Cardiff at the age 17. He then won a scholarship to the London Studio Centre, and graduated in 2000.

He starred in many of London's West End...

Damn can this man act. Luke Evans has been incredible in a lot of films but to me I will always remember him being so damn menacing in No One Lives. But at the same time he has done so much since that he is a great actor. He would be a great Tommy.

26. Sean Harris

Actor | Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Sean Harris was born in 1966 in Bethnal Green, London, England. He is an actor and writer, known for Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018), Harry Brown (2009) and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015).

Tommy or even I can see him play David.

I can see Sean Harris play one of the two because that is how versatile this guy can be. Plus he has that creep factor down while also being able to stay grounded.

27. Lee Pace

Actor | Guardians of the Galaxy

In 2003, Lee Grinner Pace starred in the Sundance hit, Soldier's Girl (2003), an extraordinary telefilm created for Showtime. The film was based on the true story of a transgender nightclub performer in love with a soldier who is brutally murdered for their relationship. His breakthrough ...

I have seen a lot of fan list and the two casting characters I've never been on the same page was on either Tommy or David. But I feel like makeup and wigs can make an actor go a long way. Which I do not need the actors look exactly like they do in the video games but I think Lee Pace would be great.

28. Holt McCallany

Actor | Mindhunter

In a career spanning over 30 years, Holt McCallany has worked with some of the world's best directors including David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro, David O'Russell, Guy Ritchie, William Friedkin, Lawrence Kasdan, Walter Hill, Clint Eastwood, Brian De Palma, and Michael Mann among others.

My one and only choice for Bill.

Why? Mindhunter.

29. LaKeith Stanfield

A few years later, he auditioned for Destin Cretton's then college thesis film Short Term 12 (2008). Later, the ...

Great actor with so much potential and we have seen him in so many great films. Which is why it would be so fantastic to see him as Henry. A great kind soul human being just trying to survive with his brother. That is Lakeith Stanfield wheelhouse.

30. Winston Duke

Actor | Black Panther

Winston Duke is an actor and producer, known for Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Us (2019).

Already after one movie I am a huge fan of this guy. Incredible presence, and again he might be a little bit to much on bulk and a little bit to tall. But again this is Hollywood they can change so much. Plus why not see an actor like him get a chance to shine in a film like this and we all know Henry is that guy.

31. Darrell Britt-Gibson

Actor | Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Darrell Britt-Gibson is an actor and writer, known for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), Keanu (2016) and Barry (2018).

So if Lakeith is to busy which he might, and if Winston can get that gaunt look then actually my first choice is Darrell. Who made such an impression on me with TBOEM and even more in his appearances in the TV show You're The Worst.

32. Abraham Attah

Actor | Beasts of No Nation

Abraham Attah was born on July 2, 2001 in Ghana as Abraham Nii Attah. He is an actor and producer, known for Beasts of No Nation (2015), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Out of the Village (2016).

A great young actor who is beyond talented. Please get more work and he would be a great Sam. Again just like an actors age, height, and weight, he might not have an American accent but I know he can handle it.

33. Caleb McLaughlin

Actor | Stranger Things

Caleb McLaughlin is known for his role as Lucas Sinclair on the hit Netflix Original series, Stranger Things. However, Caleb has worked on several television shows which include: ABC Forever, CBS Unforgettable, NBC Law & Order SVU, HBO Miniseries Show Me a Hero, ABC 20/20 What Would You Do?, HBO's ...

Really the only Stranger Things cast member to not get a real big boost. Millie is rapping her way to adulthood, Finn is in It, hell even Steve has Papa Johns. But I would love to see Caleb get this chance he is one hell of an actor. I say give him this opportunity and he will kill it.

34. Alex R. Hibbert

Actor | Moonlight

Alex R. Hibbert is an actor, known for Moonlight (2016), Black Panther (2018) and The Chi (2018).

I'm just a huge fan of Moonlight that I would love to see any actor from there be cast in anything big.

35. Janelle Monáe

Soundtrack | Hidden Figures

Janelle Monáe is an American musical recording artist, actress and model signed to her own imprint, Wondaland Arts Society, and Atlantic Records.

She was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Janet, a janitor, and Michael Robinson Summers, a truck driver. In 2010, Monáe released her first full-length ...

Just like I just said any actor from Moonlight would be great in this film. And Janelle Monae as Marlene would be perfect casting. And yeah yeah is it because she is hot well, she is a fantastic actress and I can't wait to see more from her.

36. Zazie Beetz

Actress | Atlanta

Zazie Beetz (born c. 1991) is a German-American actress known for the role of Vanessa on Atlanta (2016), as well as for starring in Deadpool 2 (2018), Applesauce (2015), and Still Here (2020).

Damn it damn it damn it. 20 Century Fox and Ryan Reynolds already snatched her up for Deadpool 2. And we all know she is not going away any time soon. But she would be great as Marlene if anyone has seen Atlanta.

Honestly my first choice. Not a big name but I am more than certain she can bring down the house with her performance if she is cast.
