Votes: 1,951

Watched October 3 strengths: The title, movie poster, and plot synopsis on IMDB are what hooked me. cinema photography is well done and the music is absolutely perfect. It begins with young beautiful women being seduced to a castle where the main protagonist has them undress and put on thigh high black boots before whipping them.. unfortunately from this point the plot takes a bad turn into Scooby-doo town. weaknesses: i know it is standard for 99% of Italian movies for this time period but the dubbing even when done well is still lacking. Dubbing is a sad substitute for true dialog spoken during a scene. It was even standard procedure to dub the native Italian spoken during film production. lame. The plot was seriously lifted straight from a Scooby-Doo cartoon, soo disappointing. No good kills. Scissor stab. Snake bite. rock to head = boring The story ruined it for me. 3 Stars ***- one for the eye candy, one for the music, and one for the cinema photography

6. Demon Wind (1990)

R | 96 min | Horror

With the need to investigate the mysterious death of his grandparents, Cory and his friends assemble back to the old farm where it all began, sixty years earlier.

Director: Charles Philip Moore | Stars: Eric Larson, Francine Lapensée, Rufus Norris, Jack Forcinito

Votes: 1,898

Watched October 4 Strengths: It tries really hard and fails.. The story is sooo Bad, all movie logic is out the window.. If you need some more characters to kill off just have them drive up and arrive mid-movie with no explanation and the plot also borrows heavily from The Evil Dead + The dialog and acting is wooden + The make up and special effects are actually really good though.. makes for a highly watchable & entertaining bad movie experience Weaknesses: i would have liked to have seen more gore and violence.. It is a little too tame for my tastes. Full Disclosure: the movie is in color but I watched in Black and White and loved it.. because that's the way i like it

Watched October 6 A coming of age story from the guy who brought you the movie Phantasm. Not really horror but the story is takes place during Halloween.. This is my second time watching it so I highly recommend it. Definitely not politically correct but if you wanna see what being a kid and feeling free was like in the 1970's.. then this is the movie for you.

Directors: Sergio Corbucci, Antonio Margheriti | Stars: Barbara Steele, Georges Rivière, Margrete Robsahm, Arturo Dominici

Votes: 1,909

Watched October 8 This one only has two good things going for it.. The beautiful Barbara Steele and the cinema photography..shot in glorious Black and White with a very dark and Gothic atmosphere. Story was lame and the scares were tame. side note- I did appreciate the bare female breasts.

11. Symptoms (1974)

R | 92 min | Horror

A young woman is invited by her girlfriend, who lives in an English country mansion, to stay there with her. The estate, however, isn't quite what it seems--and neither is the friend who issued the invitation.

Director: José Ramón Larraz | Stars: Angela Pleasence, Peter Vaughan, Lorna Heilbron, Nancy Nevinson

Votes: 976

Watched October 09 the plot is paper thin but what it lacks in story it makes up for in good acting, excellent cinema photography like visual poetry, and a creepy moody atmosphere. I watched it in black and white and it looked beautiful. I may watch again in color just to compare. This is the kind of movie that needs to be remade.. fix some of the clunky dialog and establish a more cohesive story arc.. but then again the feeling of being lost as to what exactly was happening on screen is part of this movie's charm.

12. Horror on Snape Island (1972)

R | 89 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

A group of experienced archeologists are searching for an old and mystic Phoenician treasure when they are surprised by a series of mysterious murders...

Director: Jim O'Connolly | Stars: Bryant Haliday, Jill Haworth, Mark Edwards, Jack Watson

Votes: 1,324

Watched October 10 This one pushed all the right buttons for me.. a good story, sex, eye candy, blood, and gore. The movie was made for people like me who share the writer and director's vision of what makes an entertaining movie in this genre of film.. I'm positive there are millions of people out there who would not like this movie at all for a multitude of reasons.. c'est la vie.. I for one loved it. full disclosure: this is a color movie that I chose to watch in black and white. fyi - I prefer the title TOWER OF EVIL

13. The Shout (1978)

86 min | Horror, Drama

A traveller by the name of Crossley forces himself upon a musician and his wife in a lonely part of Devon, and uses the aboriginal magic he has learned to displace his host.

Director: Jerzy Skolimowski | Stars: Alan Bates, Susannah York, John Hurt, Robert Stephens

Votes: 3,359

watched October 11 I really wanted to like this one but didn't.. I could even make a good argument as to why this film shouldn't be considered a horror movie. Basic Plot - Man enters a couple's life and claims he can kill with a shout then gives a pretty convincing demonstration.

Heavy on allegory but missing a few things i like in my horror.. like an element of danger or creepiness, scares, and a little blood. This movie was just menacing, strange, and dull. *1 one star for the excellent cast and acting which was enough to hold my attention for 86 minutes but not enough to make me like it.

14. The Thing (I) (2011)

R | 103 min | Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi

49 Metascore

At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson.

Director: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. | Stars: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen

Votes: 115,461 | Gross: $16.93M

watched October 12th an utter disappointment.. I haven't felt so such disappointment since I was twelve years old and my main big Christmas gift was a light brown corduroy suit. I felt guilty for crying in front of my dad and then having to explain the reason I was sad.. He was cool though.. He said. "we'll go to K-Mart tomorrow and you can pick out whatever you want.".. It worked :) I felt better. So after watching THE THING aka The Turd I followed it with KILL BILL VOL. 1 in Black & White It worked.

Director: Ishirô Honda | Stars: Russ Tamblyn, Kumi Mizuno, Kenji Sahara, Nobuo Nakamura

Votes: 2,159

Watched October 14 made by the director of the original Godzilla & Rodan.. not as good as those two movies but still good .. a nice change of pace.. a better title would have been "War Of The Frankensteins" because that is the name of the monsters in the film.. bonus points for the opening scene of a giant octopus attacking a ship.. tentacle horror is way under rated.

17. Daughters of Darkness (1971)

R | 87 min | Horror

A newlywed couple are passing through a vacation resort. Their paths cross with a mysterious, strikingly beautiful countess and her aide.

Director: Harry Kümel | Stars: Delphine Seyrig, John Karlen, Danielle Ouimet, Andrea Rau

Votes: 4,208

Watched started on October 15th/ finished October 18th an art-house vampire story .. this is my 2nd time watching this.. I didn't like it the first time over 10 years ago but thought I would give it another chance.. because why not? It was definitely better this viewing but unfortunately I could not keep my eyes open until the end.. I had to turn it off more because I was tired than the movie's fault.. I will have to finish it later. October 18th didn't hate it this time around. A few might disagree but I think this would an excellent choice for a re-make because the story is fantastic.

18. Little Sister (I) (2016)

91 min | Comedy, Drama

74 Metascore

Director: Zach Clark | Stars: Addison Timlin, Ally Sheedy, Keith Poulson, Peter Hedges

Votes: 3,321

Watched October 16th not really horror but the story takes place around Halloween so it qualifies :) Quirky in the best possible ways.. not that it doesn't have some faults but i won't hold them against this movie. I loved it warts and all. Written and directed by ZACH CLARK who also made "White Reindeer" a dark humored Christmas film that I've watched every December for the past 4 years. Watch the Trailer!

Votes: 1,045

Watched October 17th this was fantatic! I wasn't even sure I was watching a horror movie for the first hour..but believe me it was one by the end. The story is about a young teenage girl obsessed with a pop star called "R" who runs away from home to meet and be with him, but what happens is exactly what you expect up to a point.. I won't spoil the rest. Soundtrack is great synth-pop much like the band Kraftwerk.

20. Lust of the Vampire (1957)

82 min | Horror

A mad scientist captures young women and drains their blood, in order to keep alive an ancient, evil duchess.

Directors: Riccardo Freda, Mario Bava | Stars: Gianna Maria Canale, Carlo D'Angelo, Dario Michaelis, Wandisa Guida

Votes: 1,350

watched October 19th I VAMPIRI (1957) cinema photography and uncredited direction by the famous Mario Bava and it has his touch all over it. Inspired by the same story as Daughters of Darkness about a famous countess who kills and uses blood of the living to stay young.. It was great .. i *beep* you not.. and the special effect of the countess transforming from young to old and back again is seamlessly perfect.. amazing to watch it happen right before your eyes. I still have no idea how the effect was done.. i loved the story and everything else :)

Director: John Hough | Stars: Peter Cushing, Dennis Price, Mary Collinson, Madeleine Collinson

Votes: 4,264

watched October 24 watched in glorious black and white and it made all the difference. The story is pretty straight forward as far as vampire/devil worship/witch hunt movies go, but the execution of this simple tale is outstanding on every other level..the acting, the wardrobe, cinema photography were all top notch. Warning! This film has sinful devil worshiping, bloodletting, human sacrifices, young nubile witch burnings, head decapitation, and plenty of heaving bosoms.

26. Not of This Earth (1957)

Votes: 1,391

Watched October 25 It feels like a really good episode of THE OUTER LIMITS television show but lacks some punch due to the low budget of this production.. Sometimes lack of budget can be a positive .. the simple white contacts for the main Human/Alien hybrids works very well.. but lack of budget can be a negative too.. the other alien looks like a joke It is a rubber umbrella with a crab glued on top of it. but aside from that one weak link.. I still enjoyed it.. Short and sweet .. only 67 minutes

watched October 27 Fantastic Science fiction horror. In another world the makers of THE THING (2011) would have used this original as a blueprint and let the opening sequence of THE THING (1982) be the ending.. then they would have had a decent film.
