Unintentionally Funny

by SavageOtterPaws | created - 14 Aug 2012 | updated - 15 Jun 2015 | Public

Some movies are just so bad or so over-the-top that they are funny, even though they weren't meant to be. This list DOES NOT include movies in which the humor is on purpose, even though they might not necessarily be comedies (e.g. 'The Evil Dead', 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space').

While not THE worst movie ever made, it is the movie that is most famous for being so awful it's funny.

Director: Robert Greenwald | Stars: Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, Michael Beck, James Sloyan

Votes: 10,276 | Gross: $22.76M

So unintentionally campy that it even spawned a Broadway musical adaption that was purposely a spoof of itself.

A young security guard must track down diminutive aliens who kill people even as they make their fantasies come true.

Director: Rick Sloane | Stars: Tom Bartlett, Paige Sullivan, Steven Boggs, Kelley Palmer

Votes: 9,104

There was a lot of raunchy teen comedy in the movie already, but that wasn't nearly as funny as how terrible their attempt at actual horror was.

Aliens come to Earth seeking scientists to help them in their war.

Director: Joseph M. Newman | Stars: Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue, Rex Reason, Lance Fuller

The aliens in this movie make those in 'Mars Attacks!' seem serious.

The Martians kidnap Santa Claus because there is nobody on Mars to give their children presents.

Director: Nicholas Webster | Stars: John Call, Leonard Hicks, Vincent Beck, Bill McCutcheon

Votes: 9,768

While humor is occasionally attempted, none of it is funny. The quality of the movie and futuristic "technology", however, is laughable to say the least.

With the aid of Merlin, Santa Claus must defeat the evil machinations of the devil Pitch to ruin Xmas.

Director: René Cardona | Stars: José Elías Moreno, Cesáreo Quezadas 'Pulgarcito', José Luis Aguirre 'Trotsky', Armando Arriola

Votes: 4,102

It's attempt at whimsy is just plain sad. It's premise is quite dark, even though it intends to be light-hearted. And parts of it are even a bit racist.

All of the Gamera films are worthy of this list, but this one is probably the most laughable.

11. Judge Dredd (1995)

In a dystopian future, Joseph Dredd, the most famous Judge (a police officer with instant field judiciary powers), is convicted for a crime he did not commit and must face his murderous counterpart.

Director: Danny Cannon | Stars: Sylvester Stallone, Armand Assante, Rob Schneider, Jürgen Prochnow

Votes: 98,021 | Gross: $34.69M

One of my favorite "so bad, it's good" pictures; the action is so overblown, the dialogue so hokey, the visual style so cartoonish, and the whole thing just so cliche-ridden, you can't deny the fact that this movie is a fun one to watch, as long as you take NONE of it seriously.

12. Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)

Definitely up for the title of "worst film ever made", but like 'Troll 2', it's just so dang funny.
