Le Mans, has to be the best racing film in history. Real cars, real stunts, real speed and a man that simply loved motoracing, in an iconic racing environment. Not too much of a story, but in my opinion this made the picture even better. A must see for every racing fan.

2. Weekend of a Champion (1972)

80 min | Documentary

63 Metascore

Filmmaker Roman Polanski spends a weekend with world champion driver Jackie Stewart as he attempts to win the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix, offering an extraordinarily rare glimpse into the life of a gifted athlete at the height of his powers.

Directors: Frank Simon, Roman Polanski | Stars: Jackie Stewart, Roman Polanski, Grace Kelly, Prince Rainier of Monaco

Votes: 435 | Gross: $0.00M

Formula 1 fans will treasure this gem of documentary. You have one of the most skilled and influential figures of F1, in Jackie Stewart, taking you through his frantic preparations, in order to win the most glamorous and difficult race of the calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix. 70's were the "rock star" days of Formula 1. Romantic, very exciting and overly dangerous. It's really amazing to see a triple world champion relieving those days, along with a friend, adding a lot to the film, while most of the rest of the "cast" has perished in the tracks...

An inspiring documentary about the life of F1 legend, Ayrton Senna. Many experts, like Prost, Dennis, Williams and members of his family, share their views end experiences. Although biased at times, it shows us the fights that Ayrton gave both inside and out of the track.

83 Metascore

Director: Peter Yates | Stars: Steve McQueen, Jacqueline Bisset, Robert Vaughn, Don Gordon

Votes: 51,824 | Gross: $42.30M

Since this is a McQueen film, you already know there will be awesome cars in it! What steals the show in this one is a, almost 11 minute, chase between two iconic cars. A Ford Mustang GT Fastback and a Dodge Charger, chase each other through the streets of San Francisco, all the way from the Fisherman's Wharf to Brisbane! No dialogues are heard during this scene, only the grunt from those big V8's...

10. The Road Warrior (1981)

R | 94 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

76 Metascore

In the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, a cynical drifter agrees to help a small, gasoline rich, community escape a band of bandits.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Mel Gibson, Bruce Spence, Michael Preston, Max Phipps

Votes: 147,724 | Gross: $12.47M

The best post-apocalyptic car related film ever! Also, one of the very few sequels that was better than the first movie. What i think stands out, are the crazy cars and characters and the great scenery. Mel Gibson is pretty good in all three films with his best being the first one, in my opinion.

11. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

R | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

90 Metascore

A woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in postapocalyptic Australia in search for her home-land with the help of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshipper, and a drifter named Max.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz

Votes: 706,693 | Gross: $153.64M

It was about time we got to see a true car related film. Not that BS CGI stuff that have flooded cinemas in the last decade or so. Mad Max: Fury Road stayed true to its predecessors, changing subtlety the backstory of its main character, subsequently introducing an new one, that is as crazy as Max. The only difference lies in the scope of things. Max has no target, no destination, noone to care about, staying true to his "way of life" even in this film. Furiosa, on the other hand, is another kind of "monster". One that cares about the people around her, remaining tough and cruel where she needs to be. All in all, George Miller managed to create a film for todays fans, staying true to a yesteryear recipe, that works so well. Indeed, he managed to create another sequel, so well put together, that can stand either as a "Mad Max" film, or a film on its own. -Furiosa maybe?-

60 Metascore

A young hot-shot stock car driver gets his chance to compete at the top level.

Director: Tony Scott | Stars: Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid

Votes: 67,383 | Gross: $82.67M

Clearly, this movie shouldn't be this high in my list, if only pure quality was taken account. Basic story line, where a maverick driver must overcome his fears to become successful in what he knows best, with the help from his experienced mechanic. Throw in some romance and there you've got it. Racing scenes are so-so. I saw this movie as a kid, liked it very much and still remember every detail of it. Combine this with a deep love of cars that started right about then and there is justification for the movie to rank this high.

Director: Robert Zemeckis | Stars: Kurt Russell, Jack Warden, Gerrit Graham, Frank McRae

Votes: 11,733

Staying true to a successful recipe of the early '80s,this car-related comedy has every element needed to be a good one and in my opinion it is! Funny dialogs (Kurt Russell is great), outrageous (at some times) plot ,hundreds of cheap cars running around, many crashes and some pretty good high speed scenes.

19. Two-Lane Blacktop (1971)

Director: Monte Hellman | Stars: James Taylor, Warren Oates, Laurie Bird, Dennis Wilson

A great 70's film, portraying a quadruple of mystical characters. It manages to capture the essence of the early drag racing, picturing some trully beautiful cars. A '55 hot rod Chevy and a (then) brand new Pontiac GTO. What really stands out in this movie, is the sound of that 454 Chevy big block.

Classic chases and cars, real crashes and a scene that will be deaply carved in any carfilm lovers mind, with O'Neal been asked to prove to his future partners what he can do behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz 280SE (W108) inside a garage! High speed chases and races, Jackie Chan's fight scenes and many many beautiful Japanese cars (FTO, GTO, Lancer Evo III, Skyline R-32)! Ok, i admit that the high speed scenes are not of great quality, but this film builds up to an epic racing duel at the end! The montage of the Lancer build ends with a trully great scene, where Jackie is siting on a bucket seat changing gears so fast, that your head starts to spin!!
