Comedy Movie Rankingsby ctwill02-352-732724 | created - 08 May 2012 | updated - 10 hours ago | Public
In this list, I will rank all of the movies meant to make the audience laugh. This will not include movies that revisionist history has deemed comedies but only those whose initial purpose was hilarity. It's by far the greatest genre in cinema because, after all, if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad.

Votes: 227,914 | Gross: $10.82M
It's definitely more of a cult comedy since it reached the height of its popularity playing on a constant loop on Comedy Central. Milton, the reason the movie was made to begin with, is by far the best part of the movie, but Lumbergh is hilarious as well. It's not all that surprising that none of the three main male characters did anything after this as their parts weren't really all that memorable.

This is a total 180 from what Sandler had been doing since about 2008 or so. It's much more in the vein of Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison with tons of hilarious side characters doing and saying random things.

Votes: 291,426 | Gross: $70.14M
While not the funniest, this is probably the most famous movie about high school ever made. Most of the statements made about school in the 80s still seem pretty accurate today, which is the sign of a true classic.

"That's not a good idea!"
This was one of my favorites as a kid, and it still holds up remarkably well today as evidenced by the fact that my two-year-old son wants to watch it every day.

"It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him." That line alone makes this movie a classic.

PG | 99 min | Comedy
A successful psychotherapist loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, an obsessive-compulsive neurotic, tracks him down during his family vacation.
Votes: 58,190 | Gross: $63.71M
This was so much better the second time I watched it. You've probably come across this on TV multiple times. Well, it's worth the watch because Bill Murray is a genius, especially during the in-home interview at the end.
47. 21 Jump Street (2012)

A pair of underachieving cops are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.
Votes: 480,131 | Gross: $138.45M
They pulled this off better than I expected, but it still could have benefitted from being a little more subdued at times. Jonah Hill seems to be able to write other characters well but not his own, who keeps vacillating on who he is throughout the movie to the point where it seems he's only playing himself.
48. Envy (2004)
PG-13 | 99 min | Comedy
