Top 30 TV Showsby jacob-350 | created - 24 Mar 2011 | updated - 23 Jun 2012 | Public
I used to regard myself strictly as a "movie"-man, who didn't care at all what shows the screen at home had to offer. I recently discovered that I'm now addicted to a couple of shows, especially since you don't have to be a writer to write movies anymore; television shows have simply taken the lead.

1. Band of Brothers (2001)
TV-MA | 594 min | Action, Drama, History
The story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord, through V-J Day.
GENRE: TV mini-series, historical war drama
DESCRIPTION: Band of Brothers from 2001 was so good it made Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan seem like a warm up round. Rarely has television seen this level of production value, not that you could expect any less from men like Hanks and Spielberg. This ten-part miniseries has already been imitated to death (specifically in the videogame marked), but never bettered. Perhaps the next installment, The Pacific, will do that? Problably not... Almost every episode is a masterpiece in itself. Simply the best thing to grace the silver screen, and you have to respect they way it changed television; everybody simply had to up their game after this. By the way, the bluray boxset is the best purchase I have made on that platform.

DESCRIPTION: I wasn't a huge X-Files-fan, and I couldn't really see the appeal of David Duchovny until I saw Californication, where he's an absolute force of nature. It also helps that the show is hugely enjoyable, vastly entertaining and simply put, one of the best written things of television - almost every episode and scene is quotable.

GENRE: Period Drama
DESCRIPTION: Seriously brainy drama, with a production value that's simply staggering. Some shows work with the 'show & tell'-vibe, this is mostly 'show, but never tell unless it's necessary'. It's like a better version of Revolutionary Road.

GENRE: Crime Drama Thriller
DESCRIPTION: At first, it's really annoying that they change perspective from Dexter to somebody else, since he's the protagonist and has the voice over. But then, when The Ice Truck Killer is revealed, so that we know more than our (anti-)hero, everyhing clicks into place.
EPISODES TO WATCH: "Seeing Red"; "About Last Night"; "The Getaway"
12. Scrubs (2001–2010)
TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Drama
In the unreal world of Sacred Heart Hospital, intern John "J.D." Dorian learns the ways of medicine, friendship, and life.
DESCRIPTION: Like so many other things, Scrubs didn't knew when to quit, and the show has gone on longer than it could sustain. But it's still really funny and is glouriously written, when it doesn't rely too much on slapstick that is. I also miss the drama the first two seasons possessed. But the only weak season is no. 7, and fans should stop watching after season 8. A couple of notes to creator Bill Lawrence: No, your wife is not a good actor, the barbershop quartet is so overused it's a crime, and dr. Cox' monologues are not funny just because they are long.
